Accrington Station (Past and Present)

This group is for any rail pictures taken at Accrington.

This group is to get a good variety of pictures taken from the past and the present. Feel free to add pictures of freight, passenger, steam, railtours and any station architectural history. I would also like to see some pictures of any sidings or pictures taken from the lodge as the old bridge used to look like back in the good old days. and also the Woodnook line.

Abandoned NovaCare

It finally happened. I have my first MSD! :D Many of you know that I have been debating over which MSD I should get for quite some time now. I had narrowed it down to a Bambicrony Brava Bambi (Emily or Ellen) or a Fairyland Minifee (Rheia or Shushu). So... how did I end up with a Luts Kid Delf? Well, it's a crazy story, really. It's not that I had never considered getting a KDF before, because I have, but none of the female sculpts really "spoke" to me. However, there was always one sculpt that always caught my eye: Mill...but Mill is sold as a boy, and only a boy...and I wanted a girl...so I had pretty much decided that I wouldn't ever get a KDF unless they released new sculpts.

One night a couple of weeks ago I happened to be perusing DoA when I spotted a listing Meggilu had for a Kid Delf Mill (GIRL!!) head. As soon as I saw Meggilu's photos I just knew that she was *the one* I managed to find a body here in the US and finished putting this beauty together yesterday. I am completely smitten ♥ I feel as though she was made just for me--in my eyes she is absolutely perfect.

Now she just needs a name.....

Started from the bottom now were here!

Adoreeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiii... Quem não gostaria??!!!!

Para ti que eres joven.

I gave at Christmas to Alma...We both love it! Thank you Mab!!

“When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not.”

Another 14-metre coach has joined the Quicksilver fleet but only as a seasonal hire to cope with demand over the Christmas period, and it is expected to return to the supplying dealer in the new year. Registered NE14 XTB, it is one of the Scania OmniExpress tri-axles built by Lahden in Finland, and like the Jonckheere SHV is a Roger Hey scratchbuild. The long-term plan for the model is for it to receive Motts Travel livery, but it can operate for Quicksilver until I get round to doing that.

Description: This is my image of Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) based on a total exposure time of about 2 hours. The magnification inset shows the differences between the green forward portion of the coma, the white nucleus behind it, and the faint red/pink portion of the tail. The green color is not an artifact. It is thought to be due to the photodissociation by solar radiation of dicarbon molecules present in the coma . The photodissociation mechanism is well-described in www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2113315118.

Processing Software: Pixinsight

Processing Steps:

Here, I used Pixinsight's Comet Alignment process as described in Warren A. Keller's "Inside Pixinsight" (Second Edition).

Star Alignment Step: First, I processed 68x120s subs (= 2.26 hours) in Pixinsight to get registered images using the following processes: Image Calibration > Cosmetic Correction > Subframe Selector > Debayer > Select Reference Star > Star Alignment.

First Comet Alignment Step: Next, to the registered images from the preceding Star Alignment step, I applied the Comet Alignment process in Pixinsight to generate comet aligned files.

First Integration Step: I then integrated the comet aligned files from the preceding step to produce a Comet Master file.

Second Comet Alignment Step involving subtraction: To the registered images from the Star Alignment step, I applied the Comet Alignment process in Pixinsight, with the stipulation that the Subtract Operand Field contain the Comet Master file, to generate subtraction files.

Second Integration Step: I then integrated the subtraction files from the preceding step to produce a Star Master file.

Pixel Math Step: Next, I blended the Comet Master file and the Star Master file using the expression 2*Comet Master file + Star master file in order to get a Final Merged file.

To the Final Merged file, I applied the following processes:

Linear Postprocessing: Rotation > Dynamic Crop > Dynamic Background Extractor (both subtraction to remove light pollution gradients and division for flat field corrections) > Background Neutralization > Color Calibration > Noise Xterminator.

Nonlinear Postprocessing: Histogram Transformation > Local Histogram Equalization > Curves Transformation.

Sphinx presenting offerings

Cacite, New Kingdom

Found in Karnak at the Mut Temple in the west side of the first court.

The face of the sphinx appears to have the features of King Tutankhamun. The sphinx is clad in a nemes headdress and originally had human arms and held a vase.

A late birthday present from my brother. Thanks man!

aaaaaa.... sorry for being late ...

..hmmm... but ...I love you much... my big sis :x

I love my present.

What I lived until now, it's mine. It's me.

I didn't love what I was, but now I do. And I think this is the beginning of something called freedom.

I fight less and less against myself. Anyway, I never won ;)

Oh, if you understand a little my language (french) please have a look on this article about my work!! :)

Sometimes, I'm not sure what, and don't even know why, I'm doing this... but, there is something inside of me that yells "create and share... and don't worry because it will make sense in the end, just keep doing it"... and that is why I decided to name this voice "Present".

Today, a housing estate has completely obliterated the site of the station. To truly replicate the original photographer's camera angle today, would have required me to be inside the conifer hedge to the left, so I've used a small amount of artistic license. The route of the railway can be picked up at the south end, where the embankment begins and runs south. It is accessible for about 600m as a permissive footpath. The only surviving part of the railway is a large concrete post from the level crossing, which was transplanted into the hedge within the estate (to confuse the unwary in the future) and originally came from the north side of the level crossing. It once had a gate fitted, but the is has since rotted away and been removed.

D5633 became 31209 under TOPS and was scrapped in 2003.

It was the photographing of this bus which nearly ended my relationship with the newly acquire girlfriend, who became Mrs 'R' before it had even got underway!

'Berresfordsmotors' and I, at a loose end, had gone out for a quick trip to Sheffield, on the promise of being back early enough to be present at said girlfriend's eighteenth birthday party and to photograph her cake.

Whilst walking around the city, we glanced over our shoulders to be greeted by the site of a Plaxton Elite coming towards us. Oh, another Leopard or Reliance we thought and continued perusing the service buses. When the Coach passed us, it became very clear from the sound effects that it was a Roadliner. Giving chase on foot we followed it back to this, I suppose, long gone derelict factory complex where the bus was garaged just outside the town centre. The owner of Ex Black & White Motorways RDG 309G was most accommodating and hospitable and we passed quite some time in his company taking several pictures.

Back now to my original comment, we were late back, and when I came to wind the camera on to take the pictures of the birthday cake... there was no more film : Oh, that face!

RDG 309G was a Daimler Roadliner SRP8, new in 1969, and in common with the rest of her type saw only limited service with the original owner. Because of their relative youthfulness, they were snapped up by many an independent as a low cost 'modern' coach. Later in it's life, it moved to Dragon Coachways of Stocksbridge After that, I've no idea what became of this tidy Daimler.

My own origami design. Medium: Box and lid, each folded from one uncut square of origami paper.

This is just "one" of many such creatively and beautifully wrapped gifts from an incredible friend . . . yes, someone I met on flickr years ago, but hasn't posted in a long time. However, I've been blessed to stay in touch in a very endearing, remarkable way!

...accidentally looks like a big present!

Yesterday this book arrived at my doorstep, a birthday present from a dear friend. It is very inspirational, it reminded me of the White work of Ben Nicholson. And so last night while knitting on a different project I started re-watching the documentary called The art of Cornwall on YT; I had a lovely evening ... :-))

Presented with far less processing than the previous two posts. Just standard raw conversion in ACR.
