Amy Winehouse preforming at Oxegen 08. I feel that Amy gets alot of bad press and that most of it is undeserved and driven by gossip hungry youth. I think the girl needs a break from it , if you had photographers following you every moment of the day you would go mad too.
These young ladies, come out and dance sometime in the 2nd half of the ball game to entertain, and rev up the crowd. They, I'm sure work their tails off trying to get their routine memorized for each home game. The OU Pom Squad does a great job in my eyes. Keep it up ladies!

Mark Bulgier commented on one my previous batch of images that it's not necessary to bend the brazing rod into the potato chip shape, and that round rings work just fine. I'm not surprised that he is correct. Thanks Mark.

Apache helicopters from 656 Squadron preform deck landing onboard HMS ILLUSTRIOUS. Picture: PO(Phot) Ray Jones
Apaches at Sunset
This evening HMS Illustrious was joined by two Apache Attack Helicopters from 656 Squadron, Army Air Corps. They came out to the ship to carry out some deck landing practice. Their usual operating areas are over land, so it is a new experience for a lot of the aircrews to "get their feet wet" (fly over the sea). Landing on a moving deck at sea can also be extremely challenging to the crews so they need regular practise to hone their skills. Also joining them in bouncing off the deck was a Merlin from 829 Naval Air Squadron.
HMS Illustrious is currently undergoing training off the south coast of England under the direction of Flag Officer Sea Training.
Pictured here is an Apache just about to land on the deck, whilst in the background we can see a Merlin on deck and another Apache on approach.

An F/A-18 Hornet displays the 20th anniversary paint scheme of aircraft A21-26 whilst preforming an aerobatic display over Tomaree Heads, NSW.
Photographed 03MAR2005 by Leading Aircraftman Rob Mitchell
In Oct 81, Australia signed a contract for the provision of 75 F/A-18 aircraft, of which 18 were two-seat aircraft configuration. The first two aircraft were produced in the US, with the remainder being assembled by the Government Aircraft Factories (GAF) in Victoria, Australia.
The RAAF received its first Hornet at RAAF Base Williamtown’s No. 2 Operational Conversion Unit (2OCU) in May 1985. 2OCU commenced Hornet pilot training shortly after in August 1985.
As such, this year the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) will celebrate 20 years of successful F/A-18 Hornet operations.
F/A-18 Hornet A21-26, a single seat RAAF Hornet aircraft has been painted in a celebratory 'Year of the Hornet' anniversary paint scheme.
The commemorative design was decided by holding a RAAF wide design competition. The winning design was initiated by Sergeant David Turnbull, a current member of 77SQN located at RAAF Base Williamtown.
Painting of the aircraft was undertaken in the Aerospace Coatings facility at the Boeing Aerospace Support Centre (BASC) - RAAF Base Amberley in February 2005.
Now completed, the aircraft will return to RAAF Base Williamtown on Tuesday 01 March 2005 before being officially launched at the Avalon Air Show on 15 March 2005 by the Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Angus Houston.

My Dad and his buddies Gil and Mickey sailed on the USS Chaumont through the Panama Canal and to Hawaii after basic training in New York in 1938. My Dad said that their training continue on board as they had to preform ship duties throughout the voyage. We have photos on them on board that I still need to scan. This photocard is in Pearl Harbor. You can see swimmers at the base of the ship that would dive for coins that where thrown to them.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
USS Chaumont, one of twelve 13,400-ton (displacement) Hog Island Type B (Design 1024) transports built for the U. S. Shipping Board at Hog Island, Pennsylvania, was laid down in November 1918 as the Shipping Board's Shope, launched in March 1920 as the U.S. Army's Chaumont, and completed a few months later. Excess to Army needs, she was transferred to the Navy and commissioned in November 1921. From her home port at San Francisco, Chaumont commenced a career of trans-Pacific troop service that initially consisted of voyages between California and Manila via Honolulu. Two or three voyages in 1925-26 took her to Shanghai instead of Manila, and she continued to stop at Shanghai at least once during most subsequent years. In August 1926 she sailed from San Francisco through the Panama Canal to Annapolis. The return trip took her to Norfolk, where she was drydocked for routine maintenance, and then to Guantanamo. Such voyages between the East and West Coasts also became near-annual events.
Chaumont's voyages to Shanghai provided important assistance to U.S. Far Eastern diplomacy during the 1920s and 1930s by supporting the Marine Corps units deployed to the International Settlement in that city to protect U.S. nationals there. At the end of January 1932 Japanese forces in the Settlement attacked nearby Chinese forces, leading to intensive fighting in the city. Chaumont was in Manila at the time, and on 31 January the Navy Department ordered her to embark the 1,000 men of the Army's 31st Infantry Regiment and sail for Shanghai. Responding rapidly, Chaumont cleared Manila with the troops on board on 2 February and arrived at Shanghai on the 5th. Five years later, in mid-September 1937, Chaumont rushed the 6th Marine Regiment to Shanghai to reinforce the 4th Regiment that was protecting the Settlement during the all-out Japanese effort to seize the city from tenacious Chinese defenders. Chaumont suffered two mishaps during her China service in 1936-37, a week-long period aground at Chingwangtao and a collision at Shanghai with the Italian cruiser Raimondo Montecuccoli.
When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, Chaumont was on one of her regular voyages from Hawaii to Manila. She was diverted to Darwin, Australia, and then sent back to the West Coast. After two runs to Pearl Harbor, the now elderly transport was assigned to service between Seattle and Alaska, bringing men and supplies to assist in the defense of the Aleutians. Selected in March 1943 for conversion to a hospital ship, Chaumont was decommissioned in August at Seattle. She returned to active service in March 1944 as Samaritan (AH-10) and retained that name and designation until she was sold for scrapping in early 1948.

The preform has now had the pavilion roughed in with the 180-grit lap and the shape of the stone and general pattern of the facets is becoming apparent. Next up will be further shaping of the facets, including some addition/changes of facets with a 500-grit lap, then several polishing stages before moving the crown and table of the stone.
This may be the most famous soapstone bowl boulder in Georgia. There are two beautiful preform bowls that were nearly completed. This boulder was originally from Soapstone Ridge in southern DeKalb County but was moved to the north side of the historic DeKalb County Courthouse.
