I was just leaving the marsh a couple nights ago, and two swans landed just ahead of me. As I approached, I was able to capture them preening in the glow of the almost-full moon. It was so dark my ISO was maxed out, along with very low shutter speeds, so the photos are very grainy and soft, but a cool moment nonetheless.
Happy Wednesday, Everyone!
I hope you week is going well so far.
Still having some rain but isn't as bad as the past few days. I received a call from my sister who lives in San Joaquin County that a sheriff went to their house last night to let them know of a voluntary evacuation in their area. Somehow there was a levee break and though it was fixed, they didn't want to take any chances. They spent the night at a nearby hotel. So far they're doing OK.
Thank you so much for the visit and kind comments. They are very much appreciated!
We have more than a few Sandhill Cranes in our area of late. They are beautiful and very wild. I was lucky enough to find a few that were too busy preening to notice me.
I am going to have more time for Flickr in the near future. Not so bad to get older when you can enjoy life a little more.
Thanks for favs and comments. Susan

A misty morning, and a long shot of the fence behind our garden. One of a pair of crows that perch there regularly is quietly preening its feathers before going in search of breakfast ;o)

Karma, the Swainson's Hawk, was found on the side of the road after being hit by a car in Utah, leaving her with a mangled wing tip and a fractured ulna. Most of her wing tip was amputated leaving her flightless.

After all that splashing, a bit of preening was in order.

It can't be easy using that long bill to reach one particular feather. Looks like it is using the other wing to keep balance.
