Tibetan prayer wheels are devices for spreading spiritual blessings and well being.

On the wheel are prayers, mantras and symbols are inscribed,

Buddhists believe that by spinning the prayer wheel and chanting the mantra invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion.

So, every now and then Hubby gets an idea and I know it's a lost battle so I don't fight. Fortunately he usually has great ideas. He traded in our old 100-400 and we got a pretty good deal purchasing the new Canon 100-400 4/5.6 USM mark 2. He was polite enough to take me to the store before he brought it home :)

Today, I wanted to test the new baby so we drove out to the zoo. It was nice and quiet, not many people there on a grey winter's day, but in the afternoon the sun came out for a bit.

Are we happy with the new baby? YES! Why? Great IS. The quality of the glass feels like a prime even when you zoom all the way. Ok, maybe not as razor sharp as the Sigma 50 mm ART. But zooming does not feel like a compromise with this lens. With the old one, it sometimes did as the middle of the glass gave the clearest part of the image. Because of the improvements in IS it is possible to use a lower shutter speed when practicing hand held shooting. This is great as sometimes it is just too dark and the beasties move too fast for a low shutter speed.

So, this SInner's Prayer was answered. Nah, seriously, if you do not know the song Sinner's Prayer by Beth Hart, do listen to it. I find it quite a good song.

This otter was holding a clam it found. My husband made the otters stand up like meerkats by holding up little twigs and throwing them in their enclosure. It worked. They reacted the same way our cat Karel does.

Sorry for the wall of text :) Have a great Caturday, we got enthusiastic.

Deserted souls,

flying up to heaven

with heavy burdens of prayers.

Souls lost in the middle

The month of Ramadan has come. I wish a happy Ramadan for all the muslim friends.

What does it look like when you show up in the world with love? While Stephen plays quietly on piano, we are invited to meditate on what we believe these things the scripture was saying look like in real life. We then write some of those ideas on pieces of colored paper distributed earlier. Finally, we all go to the LOVE letters on the stage and tape what we’ve written onto them.

Prayer flags.

Tibetan prayer flags are colorful panels or rectangular cloths often found strung along mountain ridges and peaks in the Himalayas to bless the surrounding countryside. Unknown in other branches of Buddhism, prayer flags are believed to have originated with the original Bön religion, which predated Buddhism in Tibet.

Tonglu (3036 m), a small hamlet inside the Singalila National Park in the Darjeeling district in the state of West Bengal in India near the India - Nepal border. It is a roadside halt along the trekking route from Manebhanjang (11km) to Sandakphu. The other and easier way to reach Tonglu is via Dhotre; a 5km trek route winds through the forest to Tonglu.

A panoramic view of snow-covered peaks including the majestic Kangchenjunga range (8,586 m / 28,169 ft), a picturesque trekkers’ hut and solitude — Tonglu is the perfect retreat to explore few leisurely days in the vast natural canvas. If you can't make Sandakphu for your busy schedule, come to Tonglu, you will not be disappointed. In my opinion, Tonglu is one of the best unknown tourist destinations in West Bengal.

Take a overnight train from Kolkata to Siliguri (other option is to fly to Bagdogra). From there, it is a four-hour drive to Dhotre and a further four-hour trek will take you to Tonglu. The trekkers' huts can be booked from the DGHC counter in Kolkata, New Delhi, Siliguri or Darjeeling. A single bed will cost you INR Rs.100 (USD $2) and a room with four beds for USD $8. Foods are available from the caretaker's kitchen with a nominal price.

West Bengal Govt. can easily upgrade the facilities (mainly western-type toilets and foods) with minimum budget. I feel sad when I see tourists avoiding Tonglu for 'noisy' Tumbling (in Nepal) only for better foods and facilities but with a much higher price.

My heart aches for everyone whose lives have been turned upside down by the devastating fires ravaging California. The images and stories are heartbreaking, and I am sending all my thoughts and prayers to those who have lost their homes, their livelihoods, and their sense of security. I pray for the swift and safe return of all those who have been displaced. I especially pray for the brave first responders, the firefighters, paramedics, and volunteers, who are tirelessly working to contain the flames and rescue those in danger. May God grant them strength, protection, and guidance in their heroic efforts. Above all, I pray that God's comfort and presence be especially near to those directly affected, offering solace in their time of need. 🙏

The annual Buddha Mahotsava, a three day celebration filled with cultural and religious activities. More than two lakh (0.2 million) devotees from across the globe attended the 32nd Kalachakra puja, a Tibetan tantric ritual which hopes to bring world peace through a rigorous series of tantric initiations, led by exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama at the Buddhist holy site of Bodh Gaya.

Bodh Gaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the most holy place on Earth for the followers of the Buddhist faith all over the world. It is the place where Gautama Buddha is said to have obtained Enlightenment (Bodhimandala) in 534 BC.

Situated by the bank of river Neranjana in present day Gaya district in the Indian state of Bihar, the history of Bodh Gaya is documented by many inscriptions and pilgrimage accounts. Foremost among these are the accounts of the Chinese pilgrims Faxian in the 5th century and Xuanzang in the 7th century.

i thought this Barn Owl looked like he had his head bowed in prayer as he sat on his perch. Taken at the Mountsberg Conservation Area Raptor Center during a Sony Meetup group shoot. This particular owl was a mix of two different varieties of Barn Owl and could not be released as a result. That being said the handlers at the center were incredible both in their knowledge and their care of the birds. Thanks to Sony Canada for providing the opportunity for the shoot and supplying great gear to demo.

I shot it at the festival of CHHATH.

Chhath Puja is a very joyous and colorful festival. Chhath Puja is the holiest Hindu festival of people in northern India. Mostly the Chhath Puja is being observed in Bihar and Jharkhand(INDIA) and the festival comprises rituals for four days. The Chhath Puja begins a week after Diwali. The word Chat denotes the number six in Hindi. The Chhath Puja begins on the sixth day of the Kartik, a holy month as per Hindu calendar. Some people spell Chath Puja as Chat Puja, Chatt Puja, Chhath festival, etc

Chhath Puja is dedicated to worship the Sun God. The Chhath Puja is known as ‘SuryaShashti’. People observe Chhath Puja to thank the Sun for bestowing the bounties of life on earth, as also for fulfilling particular wishes. People believe that by observing the Chhath Puja they can fulfill their desires. The Chhath Puja has been observed since long time in India. On Chhath Puja day, all the people dress up in their best and new clothes are a must. Folk songs are sung both at home and on the riverbank. Millions of people take dip in the holy water of river Ganges, and other rivers.

Each flag has scripture written on it. They string them up in a pattern of colour, between two points. Here they lead up to the top of a Buddhist Temple. They say that the wind blows the flags and scripture, therefore it carries the prayers all over the land.

A suitable image for this week with the rainbow of colours as World Pride events have been taking place in my home city leading up to this weekend.

In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart.

Taken at Phuket night market in Thailand. This handbag seller took he's time to say a prayer while customers were browsing his wares.

I saw it as a good moment to take this shot and was afraid he would notice it but he didn't...:)

I think this shot reflects the Thai and buddhism culture in every day life quite well.

Stand in faith

Even when you can't see your way

Stand in faith

Even when you feel like you can't face another day

Stand in faith

Even when the tears want to flow from your eyes

Stand in faith

Knowing that our God will always provide

Stand in faith

Even when you feel that all hope is gone

Stand in faith

Knowing that He is always there for you to lean on

Stand in faith

Even when you feel like giving up

Stand in faith

Because He is there... saying, 'Just look up'

Stand in faith

Even in those times you feel so all alone

Stand in faith

Hold on and be strong, for He is still on the throne

Stand in faith

Even when it's hard to believe

Stand in Faith

Knowing that He can change your situation, suddenly

Stand in faith

Even in those times you feel it's hard to pray

Stand in faith ~

And believe that He has already made the way

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen

So stand in faith

Because you already have the victory!
