So here's how I practice with my new, and first, dslr camera. Bailey won't sit still for hours of practice, but this guy will. I finally had some success today with focusing the way I wanted. I'm feeling more hopeful!

Late night band practice with some friends. The studio wasn't very big and it was very hard to light. I didn't quite get the light i wanted to but it made for some interesting results. My nikon 50mm 1.8 did quite well in the low light conditions. Most shots were shot with 2.8 it seems to be the sweet spot with this lens.

Medical Friendly Shelter Full Scale Exercise 2018

The City held a full-scale exercise of the Medically Friendly Shelter (MFS) designed to establish a learning environment for participants to exercise their MFS operational plans.

The exercise served as a practical walk through of planning, operational coordination, operational communication, logistics and supply chain management, public health, healthcare, and emergency medical services

The MFS is only activated for a Category 2 or greater hurricane or as directed by the City Manager. The MFS is for people who, during periods of evacuation or emergency, require sheltering assistance due to physical, mental or cognitive impairment, or a sensory disability that exceeds the basic level of care provided at a general population shelter, but does not require the level of care provided at a skilled medical facility. This includes help with administering medication, personal hygiene assistance with activities of daily living (washing, dressing and eating).

Well, after an hour of practicing parallel parking in the church parking lot, we went to the driver testing station for the real thing. Right under the sign declaring, "practicing not permitted," he nailed it. He backed perfectly into the rectangular area on the pavement.

Later, the official who tested him remarked that he wished there had been a video made, for instruction purposes.

The other parts of the test went well, too. Our seventeen-year-old is now a licensed driver.

Watch out, world!

When we moved into the Harmful space we took the smallest of the three rooms. Oh, that was initiated by Sean (also in TNH) joining as the second guitarist. By this time Nicole had joined & Jim had quit, being replaced by Eric Cunha.

WARNING: BORING AHEAD

While on break I'm trying to dig through several photography books from the library and understand better this hobby of mine. Previous to now I've known practically nothing 'official' aside from a few little pseudo-rules. Today's exercise was in composition. I wanted to make the exact center of the image be the focal point and I think it worked out.

Sometimes I don't want to learn, I just want to go out and point my camera at things. But ... every time I come home with 100 shots and I don't like any of them I realize I need to think more about what I'm doing, maybe practice with intentions instead of shooting wildly, and thus today's image.

Glad I did a practice - I shredded the wool on one side trying to open it. Now I know to be super extra careful on the real thing!

I turned a practice wooden Rondel dagger for a friend on my homemade lathe. I used a piece of wood he found in his garage, followed a photo he provided, and his marks for the length of the pommel, handle, and guard. Now I want one!
