Last August, that's right back in 2011, I was able to spend an afternoon in the classrooms and studios of Ballet Philippines at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The teachers and the students were very gracious to allow me to photograph them during their class and practice sessions. It wasn't the first time for me to photograph dancers. However, it was my first time to photograph them during a class.
One of the sessions which I joined was an expression and improvisation class. It became a learning experience for me as I started to listen to the teacher's instructions and anticipate the next moves of the dancers.
Thank you again to Ballet Philippines, the principal dancers, the teachers and the students. Looking forward to photographing all of you again.

Medical Friendly Shelter Full Scale Exercise 2018
The City held a full-scale exercise of the Medically Friendly Shelter (MFS) designed to establish a learning environment for participants to exercise their MFS operational plans.
The exercise served as a practical walk through of planning, operational coordination, operational communication, logistics and supply chain management, public health, healthcare, and emergency medical services
The MFS is only activated for a Category 2 or greater hurricane or as directed by the City Manager. The MFS is for people who, during periods of evacuation or emergency, require sheltering assistance due to physical, mental or cognitive impairment, or a sensory disability that exceeds the basic level of care provided at a general population shelter, but does not require the level of care provided at a skilled medical facility. This includes help with administering medication, personal hygiene assistance with activities of daily living (washing, dressing and eating).

And landing . . . . and not running into each other . . . . and other things.
In my excitement and haste yesterday to post a photo commemorating my wonderful morning, I failed to mention that at least 3 of the Great Blue Herons I spent over an hour with were Youngsters. Of course, I wasn't sure at the time, having never been anywhere near close to GBH ever -- but I thought the 2 that landed right by my car and didn't fly away even when I exited, might be. My experience with these guys in this wild part of the world has always been that they are extremely skittish around the very few humans they come in contact with. Even Tyler, one of the Rangers, who is as avid a bird photographer as me, and around the Lake 40 hours a week, could not believe I was lucky enough the night before to have caught TWO of the big birds in the same photo.
I just don't know how to explain how I feel about this 3 mile stretch of wild land --- the West River Trail ---- and some of the experiences I have been gifted with this Summer, in my endeavors to learn more and more about it's ecosystem. Yes, it did start with my fascination with the pair of Bald Eagles nesting just 2 miles "up river" from my home. My adventurous Summer began on April 2 --- at 10:37 am -- when driving up Route 30, the male Baldy was sitting high up in a tree right along side the road. It was like he was the "Pied Piper" appearing out of nowhere --- and I've been following and dancing to his music ever since.
Practicing with my flash. I know most flash photographers have like 3-4 flashes, but I only have one and I can see where I could use another. Besdies that - any critiques? I sooooo want to learn flash photography!
Practice event for for the 77th Members Meeting at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, taking place in April.
The day represents car racing from the era of the 1950's and 1960's glory days at Goodwood.
Check out my video footage from the day:
The world you see is just a movie in your mind.
Rocks dont see it.
Bless and sit down.
Forgive and forget.
Practice kindness all day to everybody
and you will realize you’re already
in heaven now.
That’s the story.
That’s the message.
Nobody understands it,
nobody listens, they’re
all running around like chickens with head cut
off. I will try to teach it but it will
be in vain, s’why I’ll
end up in a shack
praying and being
cool and singing
by my woodstove
making pancakes.

This is where I practice, seventy percent of the time at least. While I was in school, a neighborhood church let me use their choir room, which is just above the sanctuary, right behind the baptismal pool.
I remember the first day I showed up here. A cheery, gray-headed woman met me at the front door to show me how I could get into the building and all the way up the stairs to the choir room. "I hope this is okay," she said as she opened the door and turned on the lights. "It gets pretty hot up here in the summertime, but you can always turn on the A/C in the window."
It was wintertime, actually, and cold. "Thank you," I said. "This is great, and I really appreciate you letting..."
"Oh, of course, we love music, so it's really our pleasure."
A thought suddenly occurred to me that hadn't before. Did they think I would be playing church music, like hymns and stuff? What would they think if I didn't - if I played nothing religious at all?
"Um, Ms. Pam," I called, as she hurried out of the door. She turned her head. "I just wanted to make sure... I mean, I'm a student, classically trained on the piano, so I'll be practicing classical pieces, not... [how do I say this?]... church music. Is that okay?"
Turning her whole body to face me now, with eyes glinting like silver coins, she said, "That'd be great, Bethany, just great." She was smiling, I was nodding, something mysterious was being exchanged. Then she walked out and closed the door; I sat down and opened the piano.
I went back to the church a couple of weeks ago, for the first time in many months. Mrs. Pam no longer works there, which made me so sad that I nearly said, "Oh okay, thanks," to the new guy and hung up the phone. The young choir director is still there, though, the one who always wanted to hear a piece I was writing during my last semester, "to see how it's progressed," he explain. On my first day back, I sat down at the piano to face a yellow sticky note. "Welcome back, Bethany. If it gets too hot in here, feel free to turn on the A/C in the window."
Something is notably different without Ms. Pam, and while I'm in the building, I really miss her a lot. I'm very grateful for all the rest, though.... for who remains, for being welcomed back, to be playing here again.
Bit of practice at the old photoshop for tonights picture. So a bit of time spent making backgrounds and cutting out.
