The Ungami, sometimes pronounced "Unjami," Matsuri or festival is held each August in tiny Shioya, part of the Ogimi Village governmental unit along Okinawa's northwestern coast.
Shioya is a beautiful little fishing village with a large back bay. This protected bay offers the locals a unique opportunity to hold boat races in traditional "sabani" boats, often used for "Hari" or dragon boat races. It is also one of the premire sites in Japan for sculling.
The festival is noted for it's prayer rituals. Prayers are primarily the duty of the women and every other year, they hold special "Women Only" prayer vigils in sacred groves.
But each and every year the festival is climaxed with a traditional Hari race. Unlike othher Hari races in Okinawa, in Shioya, at the finish line, the women will don traditional garb and enter the water to bang drums, dance and cheer on their favorite team of racers.
With the two boats from their teams launched, the men work on getting their timming down as well as work on their style. The boat on the left is manned by the older men of the village while the smaller boat on the right is manned by the younger men and boys.

Photography continues to feed me. Sometimes I wish I could think of something else or do something else in my spare time or any other time except photography. Seriously, even when I'm busy with other outlets I'm framing, composing and wondering what the final result of said person, thing or locale would be if I had the opportunity to shoot them. I've completely given up on my weekend household responsibilities. God knows when I'm going to get around to painting my bedroom, or purchase those new pillows for my living room, or locate an electrician to install those halogen lights... But in time I guess even those things will work themselves out. Until then I'll keep perfecting my craft with the hope one day I can feel less and less like the "novice photographer" I can't seem to shake...

Notice my DIY boom - I'm particularly proud of the counter-weight solution ;-)
Biggest challenge - focusing on the spot you're going to be stending in.
Practice event for for the 77th Members Meeting at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, taking place in April.
The day represents car racing from the era of the 1950's and 1960's glory days at Goodwood.
Check out my video footage from the day:
Hello, and first of all, a big apology for all of those contact’s pics who I haven’t commented on for… God knows how long… The thing is, I kind of died, my game broke down, I got a writing stuck, I got a nervous breakdown, and I got interested in Digital Art! Heha. I PROMISE I’m off to comment right away!
Second of all, so… Tadaa!! The reason I died. This is my first attempt to draw a human on the computer X [ . No tablet used, ‘cause I don’t have one. Only Photoshop and a lot of read and re read tutorials O__+ .
There are a lot of things that I like, and that I don’t like. But since this is my first try, I decided to be soft on myself and let it go XP . The background is kind of plain, but I've been working on this drawing for around half of a month, and I can’t stand to look at this lady one moment more.
Hope you like, Comments and Critiques are always welcome, you know that.
Salutations from…
Hmm… Simsland. : )
This guy was practicing sleight of hand and passes with his poker chips for as long as he was on the bus. It was impressive.
I didn't like my son's .45, it kicked too hard. But I do enjoy target practicing. I've gotten fairly accurate with my .22 pistol.
So here's how I practice with my new, and first, dslr camera. Bailey won't sit still for hours of practice, but this guy will. I finally had some success today with focusing the way I wanted. I'm feeling more hopeful!

Medical Friendly Shelter Full Scale Exercise 2018
The City held a full-scale exercise of the Medically Friendly Shelter (MFS) designed to establish a learning environment for participants to exercise their MFS operational plans.
The exercise served as a practical walk through of planning, operational coordination, operational communication, logistics and supply chain management, public health, healthcare, and emergency medical services
The MFS is only activated for a Category 2 or greater hurricane or as directed by the City Manager. The MFS is for people who, during periods of evacuation or emergency, require sheltering assistance due to physical, mental or cognitive impairment, or a sensory disability that exceeds the basic level of care provided at a general population shelter, but does not require the level of care provided at a skilled medical facility. This includes help with administering medication, personal hygiene assistance with activities of daily living (washing, dressing and eating).
