Photos with case story from the community level injury and trauma management training which concluded in February 2016. Conducted in 7 districts (14 in total) of Nepal by TLM Nepal, in collaboration with CBM (donor), Government of Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population, Handicap International and HRDC. Great example of TLM Nepal's foray into disaster risk reduction (DRR), connecting disaster training and leprosy education for community health workers.

"Very well (I say). I will
board up the window
and what do you think
you'll see then?
But the boards (they say)
the boards are also a symbol."
Kenneth O. Hanson wrote a poem titled Practical Criticism that uses a class and teacher to suggest that without practical criticism we are left with nothing but "ifs." In the poem he raises many hypothetical situations concerning his students looking though a window. None of the questions are alike. He then places a board over the window so his class can concentrate on what is going on inside the class room. The board symbolizes practical criticism and that outside things contaminate the classroom message.
This cartoon symbolizes what life would be like without practical criticism. In each case a question is raised, but the answer is never given because other random thoughts that are not relevant to the initial question are given. This is the case in literature. When a reader begins to take in information outside of the text in which he or she is supposed to focus on, their vision becomes clouded with unnecessary information for the most part. This hinders that person from receiving the theme from the words themself.

New self portrait. Been a while since I've photographed only myself, for myself.

Omani ladies walking towards their car. If you look closely you'll see the rich detailing in the black. The lady on the left has a fan-shaped pattern in crystal on her back, while the lady on the right has bling all down the hem of her headscarf.
The abayas actually sweep the ground but would get horribly filthy in the dust - you can see that the ladies on the left and right have both lifted up the hems of their abayas for practicalities' sake.
Always wanted to build a boxing glove on a scissor extension gag item. When thinking about what to bring to the latest PortLug meeting, it "hit me" that I could do it in Lego.
This is classic acid mine drainage, the red is Iron III hydroxide. The pH at the effluent interface was around 3. Theres a biological component to how acid mine draininage occurs: Thiobacillus ferrooxidans metabolizes FeS2 to Fe+3 and Sulfuric acid.
The bacterium runs this reaction: (half reactions listed because I'm lazy.)
FeS2 + 3.5 O2 + H2O --> Fe2+ + 2 SO4(2-) + 2 H+
2 Fe2+ + 0.5 O2 + 2 H+ --> 2 Fe3+ + H2O
Then the freed Iron III makes the problem even worse by this reaction which happens independent of bacteria.
FeS2 + 14 Fe3+ + 8 H2O --> 15 Fe2+ + 2 SO4(2-) + 16 H+

Some of the jokes I played on my (ex) husband during our marriage... hot mustard sweets, a sugar lump that produced a plastic floating fly after melting, a sugar lump that turned his drink into blood, and a soft plastic egg in his lunch. My haphazard attempts to conquer the world of knits have produced a plain but comfy and practical tank-top. Hopefully future versions will be a little more exciting; this was basically a proof-of-concept.
