GDS partnered with Code for America to run the first International Design in Government Day in the US as part of the Code for America Summit 2019 in Oakland, California. It included keynotes, workshops, talks and networking opportunities for designers working for and in governments around the world.

A number of large 'post it notes' containing positive messages have appeared in the West End of London - maybe other places too. They were placed there by a chap called Andy Leek, who also leaves positive notes in copies of the free newspaper the METRO for people to find on their commute. I have heard this 'project described as 'notes to strangers'. This is Newman Street close to the corner with Oxford Street. October 2016
I just bought a (new to me) house. It had one of those mailboxes on the front porch, mounted on the wall next to the front door. A few days after moving in, I got a notice from the Post Office that I needed to install a curbside mailbox. This note was stuck on the first letter I received.
I recently re-found my printer's loupe, which I've held on to for probably 15 years or so. The lens is a little scratched up and a touch cloudy, but it's still fun to use when looking at textures. I thought I'd use it in a couple shots.
I have a 3M PostIt note upon which I scribbled inky blackness with a Sharpie (I'm all about trade-names!). This little 3x3-inch square of night became the background for a couple experiments. I like it because it's dark, yet textured, and flat. And tiny.
As with many of my close ups, the light is provided by my 1 watt handheld LED flashlight. Handy gizmo, that.

Take a break today and pause to reflect on life, hug someone close to you, say "hello", give a smile, or just try to take some time for yourself to feel calm. I hope you like it.
On 1 May 2019, GDS ran it's 4th cross-government API meetup, bringing together people involved in API development. It was a chance for everyone to learn from each other, and move towards common government API standards. There were also talks from various UK and international governments.

This is how I keep track of my big projects at work. Post-its on the calendar. I just ordered a new one since I need to put some post-its on January.
On smoking.......
Tuesday of this last week was day 100 of being a quitter, but in a good way. It feels great to be a non-smoker. So, for this week's photo I decided to come up with 100 reasons why I quit. So yes, there are 100 post-its on this wall. Some of the reasons were kooky, but definately made me laugh.
