This is a photograph from the 3rd running of the Irish 3/4 Marathon (formerly the Athlone 3/4) which was held in Longwood, Enfield, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 7th of October 2018 at 10:00. The event is positioned perfectly in the calendar as a key training race before the Dublin City Marathon at the end of the month. Participants are advised to use this long distance race as a preparation for the Dublin City Marathon and to pace themselves accordingly. This year was the third year that the event was held in Longwood, Co. Meath which is now well known for its hosting of the Longwood 10KM/5KM annual races and a host venue for East of Ireland Marathon series marathons several times per year. The race started and finished at Longwood GAA club just outside the village of Longwood. It followed an anti-clockwise course around the beautiful picturesque countryside of south Meath. The course went through the townlands of Longwood, Castlerickard, Killyon, Hill-of-Down, Anneville and Ashfield Clonard, Blackshade, Stoneyford and back to Longwood. The locally famous Blackshade bridge at 17 miles provided the largest climb of the day. The river Boyne and Blackwater were crossed as was the Royal Canal and the Dublin-Sligo Railway line at Hill-of-Down. The overall elevation of the course works out at 3/4 of the total elevation of the Dublin Marathon course. The south Meath countryside around the course looked on a beautiful with some lovely quiet traditional 'Irish'-type roads to run on. There was a large local effort with stewarding and many local people watched from their gardens as the race passed by. The organisation of the race (by Paul Mahon and Outfront Events) was first class with every detail taken care of from the start until the finish. As usual the weather is the only variable that cannot be controlled. Subsequently, the only negative from a runners' view was the very very strong headwind from the turn at 6 miles right through Killyon and Hill-of-Down. However, other parts of the course offered a strong tailwind and flat terrain.

Lit by just my computer screens I can spend hours in just these two positions.
Late by a day. I've pretty much decided as long as I do 52 across the year and they're reasonably well spaced then it doesn't matter too much.
'Yorkshire Trench' was the name given to a front line position dug by units of the 49th (West Riding) Division near the Yser canal at Boesinghe in 1915/16. The Belgian archaeology group The Diggers worked on this site over many years and recovered much material and many human remains from the area. Their work was featured on The Forgotten Battlefield, a documentary made by BBC Producer John Hayes-Fisher. The publicity following this programme made the local authorities in the Ypres area keen on preserving some part of what The Diggers had uncovered, and in May 2003 the Yorkshire Trench & Dugout site was opened following much hard work on the part of the Diggers themselves.
What can be seen at this site is a whole section of the trench, at its original depth, with fire-steps and loopholes, and the entrances to two sections of tunnels and dugouts. The dugouts probably date from a later period, 1916/17, and due to the water level in this area are flooded and cannot be entered. However, on the surface level light stone 'paths' mark out the plan of the system below ground, which at one point is more than thirty feet below the surface.
The site is permanently open and free to visit. There are information panels in Flemish, English and French, and a reconstruction of the 'A Frame' duck-board supports. Livens projectors, British trench mortar weapons, have also been placed on the site, as many were found in the area beyond the trench towards the canal.

Please help clean up the historic shoreline of Bear Creek and Chalesmont Park where both the British and American set up defensive positions during the War of 1812, Battle of North Point. The British also used this location to evacuate their wounded and POW’s. Charlesmont Park was also the location were the Veterans of the War of 1812 celebrated Defender’s Day for over 75 years! This event will be run in conjunction with American Rivers, Trash Free Maryland and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay as part of their Annual Project Clean Stream Event.
Registration will be located at the intersection of Park Haven and Gray Haven Road (Near Bear Creek Elementary School), Dundalk, MD 21222. Looks for the registration tents and the “Clean Bread and Cheese Creek Banners. Registration will open at 8:00 am, and the cleanup will run from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.
We run our cleanups as a family event with plenty of ways for volunteers to participate. We welcome every type of person of every ability level to contribute and assist with the cleanup. Though it is true we will need people to dig out shopping carts and haul trash to the dumpsters, we need people to run water, food, tools, and trash bags (both empty and full) to individuals in the creek. People to sort recyclables from the debris removed. People will be needed to help at registration, setup food and snacks as well as many other less strenuous activities. We are also authorized to sign-off on Community Service and Service Learning Hours for students. The more people we have, the easier the work will be for everyone. We will provide lunch and snacks as well as gloves. A limited number of tools are available for sign-out, but suggest bringing your own if you have them.

Recap in a sheet. A demonstration of how the ratio of the distance from the light source to the subject : distance from the subject to the background affects the relative lighting intensities. For the Strobist Lighting 102 class assignment.
The upper number has the distance (inches) from the flash face to the subject, the lower is the distance from the subject to the background. I kept the aperture constant (except for the last shot) and varied the flash power.

A World War II Royal Navy pillbox, once part of the Hunstanton Emergency Coastal Battery. Positioned in the northwest corner next to the Coastguard Lookout, is a small brick built pillbox with a concrete roof, very similar in the shape, size and style of a Home Guard storehouse, but slightly taller and narrower. The entrance is full-height and on the landward side, there are two small loopholes (gunslits) for small arm use, one facing seaward and the other to the west. Now re-purposed as a service building the pillbox is in very good condition. This little example is probably unique, and probably the only one !
