The driving position of 1967 Bristol Commercial Vehicles Co. RELH 6L chassis with an Eastern Coach Works (ECW) Srs.2 C45F single-door coach body and a Gardner 6HLW 8.37 litre 6-cylinder diesel engine, in Royal Blue livery, Reg. No.HDV624E, Fleet No.2365, at the Bristol Bus Show, Brislington, 27 July 2025. A beautiful coach.
HDV624E was delivered to Southern National in 1967 for their Royal Blue Coach Service (Fleet No.2365) in 1967; in 1969 it was transferred to Western National which shared ownership of Royal Blue and, moreover, both companies were part of the National Bus Company by 1969. In 1977 the NBC sold it to Dean of Leatherhead, who withdrew it in 1990 and sold it for preservation.
The Bristol RE (Rear Engined) series was in production 1962-82 and was arguably the most successful of the first generation of rear-engined single-deckers, a total of 4,620 being built. It was usually bodied by Bristol’s associate company, the Eastern Coach Works although some were fitted with the Duple Commander, the Plaxton Panorama Elite, the Alexander M Type or, in Northern Ireland, the Alexander X Type.
A variety of 6-cylinder diesel engines was offered: Gardner 6HLW 8.37 litre, 6HLX 10.45 litre or 6HLXB 10.45 litre or the Leyland O.600 9.8 litre, O.680 11.1 litre or 510 8.3 litre turbo. However, the prototype was fitted with a Bristol BVW 8.9 litre 6-cylinder engine fitted with a turbocharger, although this was later replaced by a Gardner engine.
A number of variants was offered, all 8’2" wide:
RELL – long (36’), low frame (bus), 2,839 built;
RESL – short (32’10”), low frame (bus), 689 built;
RELH – long (36’), high frame (coach or dual purpose), 976 built;
RESH – short (32’10”), high frame (coach or dual purpose) 11 built;
REMH – maximum length (39’4”), high frame (coach), 105 built;
REML – maximum length (39’4”), low frame (bus), none ordered so none built.

Although the incident that triggered the July 16 march was a racial dispute in a Forest Park bar, participants in the protest were clearly motivated by broader concerns and were also responding to the nationwide movement against racism spearheaded by Black Lives Matter.
Organized by Oak Park High School(OPRF) teacher Anthony Clark with help from other OPRF teachers, the march from Oak Park to the bordering town of Forest Park targeted suburban racism and discrimination. At the rally, participants shared their personal experiences with suburban racial bigotry.
Clark had earlier circulated an anti-discrimination pledge which he had asked a number of local businesses to sign. While some did willingly, others said they did not want to take a position and others were openly hostile.
Clark hopes to expand the campaign into a movement that deals with the commonplace racism that plagues Chicago suburban communities.

A small rectangular Strongpoint incorperated into a 19th century concrete artificial cliff face, consisting of a Pillbox built into a Shelter (loosley resembles a Type-23 Pillbox) also includes a Observation Post and Anti-Aircraft Position. Access is restricted to the area and viewing it is not easy either. The Strongpoint is a combination of Observation Post/Pillbox/Light Anti-Aircraft Position in the grounds of RAF Bawdsey Manor.
There are many Defences along this section of the coast, but due to the extensive coastal erosion along the Suffolk coast its very likely most of them will not remain in situ, I don't think access to this area is now safely possible. There are also quite a few World War Two Defence remains along the beach, some can be made out as to what purpose they originally served, but some are hard to distinguish.
