Backyard Birding - New Lifer & 1st County Record; Buxton, Traill County, North Dakota

Image was captured through the window in poor light and heavily cropped but wanted to post anyway. The bird was observed for less than a minute.

Wheat fields around Athiainou, Cyprus.

Athiainou is a community that used to produce 12% of the total grain needs of Cyprus in past times.

Today Cyprus imports most of its grain.

Very poor rainfall this winter has the result of very low yield from the fields.

This is 2 photos squished together, of the back and front sides of a bird's leg ring we found surrounded by entraily feathers round the back of the Towers a few days ago. All that was left, apart from feathers, was one foot - little, pink, and still articulated with no rigor mortis - with this ring still around it. We couldn't work out from the plumage or the foot exactly whom Sally Sparrow(hawk) had decided to lunch on, so I did some research and discovered that this kind of ring is only for racing pigeons, that there is an online database of number recipients, hence I could call the owner and let him know he could stop worrying about whether his beloved pigeon would ever come home.

Sadly I managed to only contact the local branch secretary of the pigeon-fanciers' club, and my poor girl had to take a very courteous but very upset return call from the owner of the pigeon.

So, bye bye poor little white-feathered GB10F 4303 (who I am sure had a real name, but we never found it out).

I like sparrowhawks, they do a good job managing wood pigeon numbers and are gorgeous birds, but this was very sad.

(165/365) Such a sad sight. Silly Girl spent the day at the vet. She had her teeth cleaned and several cysts removed, hence the E collar to keep her from rubbing her eyes (one cyst on each lower eyelid) or chewing the stitches (small cyst on her right foreleg and two large fatty lumps on her chest). Poor baby. Dr. Fox is pretty sure the lab results will show everything is benign or fatty, but we wait with anticipation anyway.

Update: everything ended up benign and she is healing up just fine!

My poor backyard has been so neglected this winter. Now the weather is fining up, I need to get out there and make a garden out of it again!!

I met in the street a very poor young man who was in love. His hat was old, his coat worn, his cloak was out at the elbows, the water passed through his shoes, - and the stars through his soul.

Bob's proportions are much better than depicted here. I shouldn't even post this, but it tells part of our travel story.

Doc cowers between the sofa and the coffee table during a thunderstorm.

A poor excuse of a shot tbh, but this was about the only moment when it was possible to take this photo!

absolutely no car deserves such a color! poor thing!

Poor Little Button (P4179903-med)

I was going to do just a little hair repair in the front, and one thing led to another.....

This young red-tailed hawk was too preoccupied with its meal to be concerned with me.

My grandson will hate seeing this when he goes on his first date!

Rue's been having problems with bladder sludge, I've changed her diet to vegs/salad & hay only, but I've not been able to get her to drink more...

St Michael, Aslacton, Norfolk

A poor illiterate peasant,

who set out to establish himself

and his family

in a foreign land and succeeded

The tiny lattice of narrow lanes between Norwich and Diss feels far more remote than its proximity to civilisation on a map might suggest. Here are pretty little self-contained villages clustered around simple little churches. Aslacton is a good example, its church of St Michael worth visiting if only for a sense of what English parish churches have been doing for centuries.

I saw this house a fe years ago

Just trying out my new light box with one of Zoe's soft toys.

Light box was brand new bought on ebay for £3.99 + £8 p&p (£8 from Manchester!!!)

its identical to the one in the link below although its from a diffrent supplier. Good little light box but I've got no idea how the backdrops are supposed to hang on the velcro tabs and cant get the creases out of them either!

So.. Anime North 2019, Saturday edition.

We knew off the bat that it was going to be a rather poor day from a weather perspective. Sure enough, it was pouring rain in the morning, with some good sun for about 4 hours in the afternoon, ending in more rain early evening, by which time sadly, I had to leave.

Shooting inside the building itself is a royal pain in the ass, but I THINK between Lightroom and my equipment, I've gotten a system nailed down to get decent shots.

Had a few discussions, and a really flattering/bizarre proposition which while sounds fun, would ultimately lead to me disappointing more women in my life.

On to the Sunday pics.

She wants to do something about these messy hair!!

Poor Rikka, doesn't get off easy with anything in life! Rikka had been found as a stray roaming the streets, and almost being run over. North Texas Bully Rescue took her in, and gave her a safe place to stay. She was spayed today, and had an allergic reaction to the anesthetics, or pain killer (likely pain killer), AND tested positive for heartworm. Poor girl!

She was so relieved when I picked her up, and as soon as we got to the house she plopped right down onto the couch and has not moved since!

North Texas Bully Rescue is currently fundraising for Rikkas heartworm treatment. If you're able to help, please chipin here! ntbr.chipin.com/paprikas-heartworm-treatment

Once through with her treatment, Rikka is looking for her forever home, with a comfy couch and lots of snuggles. Can you help give this wonderful girl a break? Paprika's adoption page is here: www.adoptapet.com/pet5084452.html
