Just for a smile!! Good thing he loves me

Empties from South Carolina head up the Poor Fork Branch to NRG on a dreary Kentucky morning.

Tomas is always worried about something. He has terrible anxiety.

I adopted Butters to be his happy big sister. I think she'll be a big help to poor Tomas who worries far too much for a little bear.

Today he's worried becasue he hears thunder in the distance, and it usually doesn't thunder this time of year, here.

He also thinks Butters needs a scarf or she might catch a cold. I told him I'd get right on it.

I wasn't going to post anything tonight but just seen in the paper the Badger cull is to start again and I just want to sit down and cry with sadness and frustration.

I am not a political animal but I did write to my MP about this and he was very polite but useless why against ALL advice are they still persisting with this I am gobsmacked at how stupid they are.

Rant over I will put the soapbox away.

This is a very old pic of a young Badger that was playing with the keeper like a puppy.

Poor Farm Brook on a rainy fall day. Fall from years past.

For the 52 Weeks for Dogs challenge "Up close and personal" Poor Pokey, he's really starting to show his age (16 1/2 years old) and it seems, the older he gets, the less tolerant of having a camera in his face he gets. Sorry little man, but you've got 50 more weeks to put up with this.

This shot was actually taken by Totomai, when he borrowed my camera. Check out his stream, he really has a good eye in photography.

What's interesting in this picture is the lone bulb that turned yellow. Not sure if it's designed like that or if the owner just had no other white bulb replacements.

Blue Maomao and trevally. Snorkelling the Poor Knights islands off the coast of Northland New Zealand.

I just want to say thank you to everyone who has left kind comments and sent private messages about Lucy. Your sympathy and understanding have been very much appreciated and have helped me a lot.

This is probably one of the strangest cameras in my vintage collection. The Coronet Midget was made in England in the 1930s and it's only about 2½" high. It's made of bakelite and is higher at the back than the front, which makes it appear to tip forward on a flat surface. Despite their diminutive size, Coronet Midgets were apparently functioning cameras. I imagine the image quality would have been very poor though. The most sought after colour for collectors is the blue one, which was made in 1937 and is quite rare. This one is black - apparently the least desirable colour - but I won't hold that against it.

"well if you're going to go swimming, you should bring a towel."

Discovered as recently as 1924, the Poor Knights lily (Xeronema callistemon) is coming into flower in its pot on my deck. Endemic to Poor Knights islands and Taranga Island in the north of New Zealand, it is listed as vulnerable in the 1997 IUCN Red list of plants.

is feeling a bit glum that her sister didn't arrive today. I told her to enjoy the attention while she was the sole recipient and we went outside to look at the flowers together.

I don't know how it happened, but this poor sea gull had a lure on his upper beak. He must have thought it was a real fish but was the fisherman there when it happened? I reported it to the Park Rangers but no response.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Thank you so much for stopping by and for the kind comments and favs. They are very much appreciated!

As if being crucified isn't bad enough.

That establishment is a species of Pub, and also a little market, and also a LAN Gaming Center, and also a video-game center... And there, some kids playing video-game. :¬)

This is a very poor community (or Favela, in Portuguese) called Santa Marta, on the mount Dona Marta. For many years it was devastated by the violence caused by the organized crime, specially because of the drug traffic. I could never imagine myself entering there, but, since November 2008, its permanently occupied by the police and, since this date, the inhabitants are free of the violence. Them, I could walk all the place without problem (well, almost...), but, in general, was everything very well, even I'm being with a bit of fear...

The drinking had not even started yet and they still managed to get those pink hats. I wonder what will happen after they reach the bottom.

to eat or not to eat: that is the question.

Here's a poor quality image from an impromptu rainy morning out to meet a friend from out of town. Earlier this year I shared this photo: flic.kr/p/2qLiTJi and now finally she is back operating in revenue service. I need to get out on a nice day but I don't hate the saturated rainy look to this scene, though the brush does annoy me.

Anyway Grafton and Upton Railroad train GU-1 led by GP35 3604 and a pair of MP15ACs has just departed southbound from North Grafton yard as comes off the short causeway over the marsh and Big Bummet Brook at about MP 1 as measured from the north end of the line at the junction with the Keolis Worcester Mainline, the former Boston and Albany.

Still dressed in the image of its former owner this locomotive was built in January 1965 for the Pennsylvania Railroad and was acquired by the Housatonic from Conrail around 1992 when the road expanded with the acquisition of the Danbury cluster from CR. The unit was sent here a couple years ago for contract repair work and underwent an extensive rebuild/upgrade including all new wiring and modular electrical systems.

For whatever reason after spending a substantial sum the HRRC ownership decided not to invest any more money and purchased newly rebuilt GP15-1s and GP39-2s instead. In exchange for outstanding payments due, the G&U was offered and accepted this unit in trade and now owns it.

The Great Horned Owl is Alberta's provincial bird. I saw this month old youngster at the “Alberta Birds of Prey Centre ” in Lethbridge.

Apparently, the parents abandoned this baby after their nesting area was disturbed by a construction project. This is one of the most usual reasons for orphan birds being brought to the centre.

Normally the chicks gain the strength and are ready to fly by the age of two months. This one will probably not be destined for return to the wild because of its young age when brought to the centre.

When I'm not checking out orphan baby birds, you can find me on Twitter

A Hooded Merganser catches this poor frog and makes a quick meal of it. The frogs are in brumation, like hibernation, in the cold water of winter and therefore easy targets if the ducks find them.
