From Zechariah 7, an admonition to be generous and caring to those less fortunate than we may be. There are a lot of passages like that in the Bible.
Thanks for looking. Be generous.

This is just a common snail shell.... the type of snail we see around here. (We don't seem to have those pretty colored ones here.)
The reason I liked this shell was that I didn't know snails could heal breaks in their shells, but obviously, that is what happened here.... if you look.
This is another Reverse Lens macro. I suppose I should mention that I also do focus stacking with most of these Reverse Lens macros.... I use the program Helicon Focus for that.
I wasn't entirely sure if this shell was empty... there was something in it, maybe just dirt. So I put it back out where I found it after its glamour photo session.
To anyone who wants to know how Reverse Lens Macro (or poor man's macro) works, I described it under this photo:
If you want to know what "Focus stacking" is, it simply means that I took several photos of this shell, each time moving the focus a little bit, so eventually I had about five photos, each one focused on a stripe of the shell (overlapping stripes, just like in panoramas).
Then I put the five photos into the program "Helicon Focus", and that program put the focused parts all together. (focus stacking really only works if you use a tripod, I have found.)
is feeling a bit glum that her sister didn't arrive today. I told her to enjoy the attention while she was the sole recipient and we went outside to look at the flowers together.
I don't know how it happened, but this poor sea gull had a lure on his upper beak. He must have thought it was a real fish but was the fisherman there when it happened? I reported it to the Park Rangers but no response.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
Thank you so much for stopping by and for the kind comments and favs. They are very much appreciated!

The drinking had not even started yet and they still managed to get those pink hats. I wonder what will happen after they reach the bottom.
Lo! The poor Indian, whose untutored mind sees God in clouds, or hears him in the wind.

The Great Horned Owl is Alberta's provincial bird. I saw this month old youngster at the “Alberta Birds of Prey Centre ” in Lethbridge.
Apparently, the parents abandoned this baby after their nesting area was disturbed by a construction project. This is one of the most usual reasons for orphan birds being brought to the centre.
Normally the chicks gain the strength and are ready to fly by the age of two months. This one will probably not be destined for return to the wild because of its young age when brought to the centre.
When I'm not checking out orphan baby birds, you can find me on Twitter
A Hooded Merganser catches this poor frog and makes a quick meal of it. The frogs are in brumation, like hibernation, in the cold water of winter and therefore easy targets if the ducks find them.

Kronborg is a castle and stronghold in the town of Helsingør, Denmark. Immortalized as Elsinore in William Shakespeare's play Hamlet. We were lucky to have the weather! A local phenomenon means there is often fog in the sound. It added to the drama I feel. We later caught the ferry to Sweden. Caught the train down to Malmo before crossing the Oresund Bridge back to Copenhagen
That's what he would like you to think but don't believe it for a moment. He has spent about 5 minutes in his cage for the entire 10 days of his boarding experience (his family takes him home tomorrow). Yesterday, he finally got his one suture removed and even better, got rid of his cone. Until he ripped ripped open the suture site 2 minutes later. so, although the abscess site is nearly healed, and will continue to heal without replacing the suture, the vet decided to put the cone back on Moustache in an attempt to slow him down a bit. The bite was right behind his "armpit" where the skin stretches every time this crazy kitten jumps, climbs, sprints, belly crawls, pounces... In reality, the cone doesn't slow him down at all - it just makes him more clumsy.
We are all going to miss Moustache when he goes home but we also feel quite confident we'll be seeing him again. There's no way that this outgoing, adventurous, clumsy, playful kitten isn't going to pick another fight with the wrong cat, like, for instance, the big black cat who lives next door, fall off a banister, land wrong when jumping down from a tree, scratch his eye, rip out a claw, eat something that makes him sick or gets stuck in his GI system... the list goes on and on.

Good thing about being sick? being stuck in bed with my PS2...LOL
Rule of Rose is an interesting game...creepy and dark..but not near as terrifying as many of the survival horror games out there...I haven't been able to complete the game yet....so I'm rather lost as to what is going on...I LOVE the visuals tho...

Dark-ages-era spacey stuff recovered from my old computer. (Again, please excuse my poor 2014-era photography skills... or lack thereof)
The United Systems Military Fleet (USMF) was a faction I created out my love of combing things old and new. The old being classic Lego space set parts from the likes of Futuron, M-Tron, Ice Planet, and Blacktron and then combining those classic elements with the new parts Lego had designed since then.
The colors being the simple red and white were born out of a desire to use the most classic parts in those colors and introducing the newer dark bley to add a touch of modernity.
The USMF was faction I have an affection for as it has direct ties to classic space sets of yesteryear with some of the pizzaz of new parts and new building techniques. This is somewhat unlike the other factions I have made (the CLC and CDN) as they are more modern military-focused, with basically none of the old space elements many of us grew up loving.
As I get increasingly nostalgic as the years march on, I intend to revisit this theme and these fleets of ships. They may be reduced to their elements at this point, but I feel a revival coming...
The Ju/Hoansi Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert, Namibia, correctly called the San, are the first people of Southern Africa and practice one of the oldest cultures in the world and the famous “click” language. For thousands of years the Bushmen have survived as hunter and gatherers. Unfortunately, this is changing as there is very small number of wild animals left, and the Bushmen are set on the line of absolute poverty and hunger.
The Pilgrim Relief Society is a non-profit, charitable organization that is dedicated to improve the quality of life for indigenous peoples in remote areas of our planet. For 12 years they have been working with the the Ju/Hoansi Bushmen, in Kalahari Desert, Namibia, with numerous projects to address a diversity of local needs. Solar powered water systems, medical equipment for local hospitals, educational materials for local schools, support for local wildlife and environmental management and other projects have sought to address the multiple challenges of the Bushmen’s present situation.
Summer 2008 I had the privilege to take part of Pilgrim's work and stay with the Bushmen. They are I people that I truly admire.

All morning I'd looked at this massive old dairy barn from a distance. I initially worked my way among the smaller, more approachable outbuildings. All the while contemplating this behemoth as a sort of abstraction. It was impossibly large and seemed hugely out of scale in comparison to everything around it. Fully five storeys tall, it literally loomed overhead. True appreciation for the sheer mass of the building did not set in until I drew near. It was a slow process, taking a few steps, pausing, then inching closer. Part of my hesitation was the rugged terrain filled with ponded water, streams, and prickly wild rose bushes. Beyond that it just felt uncomfortable getting so close to something so large. Yet another irrational childhood fear that comes roaring back to life in response to some long forgotten trigger. Can't explain this one really. Not sure if it's a fear of a large (whatever, fill in the blank object) collapsing on me or just feeling mentally out of balance when normal proportions are upended like this. Here I was overwhelmed with the eeriness of the place. This once teeming structure was probably the epicenter of a thriving farm. Everything began and ended here. Now derelict, inhabited only by spirits and memories. The silence interrupted only occasionally by something clanking from within, a loose board perhaps. I marveled at the sheer amount of wood needed to contstruct this place. And how on earth something on this scale could have been erected with nothing more than hand tools. Very saddening to think that it's living out its final days in a state of neglect that will ultimately claim it. I expect to return here at some point to photograph a massive pile of rubble and debris. But for now treasuring these moments on a foggy morning, capturing a sense of the old girl before she falls.
War is stressful and tiring, now you can show it. New head coming in just a couple weeks or less, guaranteed!

Ol’ Luther posed so nicely for me some time ago and never received his moment in the limelight as the photos never got posted. This lumpy lizard did stand up nice and tall for the photo shoot and I just passed over the photo. I guess that I have better give Luther the day in the sun that he deserves. This particular alligator is roughly 9-feet in length and is very well fed. Photo taken on Horsepen Bayou.
I don’t have any of them named but I should recognize them considering how often I see them.

Amundsen once said, "There is no adventure, only poor preparation." And so I plan my trips very meticulously, I don't lack anything in terms of luggage and I don't take anything with me that I don't need. I usually have a plan B for the itinerary, but I've found that it's often better to do without it if possible, especially if you've booked permanent accommodation in the meantime. And so I decided back in January that I would climb up Mount Segla on September 2nd and spend the night up there. A new ultralight tent and a camera backpack where you can remove the camera insert and pack more trekking gear instead make this possible. And now, hurray, the weather is just what we ordered !!
