POLARIS A-3
The Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) system of the U.S Navy includes both the nuclear-powered submarine and its missiles. Each of 16 Polaris A-3 missiles could be launched in as many minutes either while the sub was surfaced or submerged. A submarine's mobility provides both increased range and flexibility of target choices.
This bike was in the parking lot at the Museum in Greenwood, BC. It was the most amazingly beautiful bike. I was so taken with it, that I actually went to the dealership when I got back to Vancouver to find out about it. Fortunately, good sense got the better of me and I got back in my car and left. Sometimes I can be a bit too spontaneous and don't think things all the way through. This was clearly 'love at first sight', and would likely have ended badly.... but one of these days....
I'm terrible at finding the north star, it's not the brightest star(contrary to what many people think) and there are plenty of stars that are "north" lol.
So this is my first attempt at star trails with polaris in the shot. I actually meant to do a much longer exposure but I wanted to check first to make sure the star I was looking at really was polaris, and then when I went to take another(longer) exposure clouds started coming...Oh well tomorrow's another night.
(p.s this could end up as a 365 shot since it's 2 a.m haha, depending on how my day goes tomorrow)
Captured from the side of a lake within an orchid farm, near Doi In Thanon. Facing true north, glow on the low sky was due to the artificial lighting from the flower farms behind the hill.

It was starting to cloud over, but the clouds were mostly still thin enough to see through. Last shot of the evening!
Eight minute exposure, single frame. I toyed with the idea of doing a 16 minute exposure, but copped out. Maybe next time! (Part of the difficulty is that 16 minutes of exposing the sensor means an additional 16 minutes of noise reduction, for 32 total. You can really eat up the time doing that! I am getting in the habit of leaving these time exposures for last, for obvious reasons.)
Colors worked out a little better on this one. :)
Other techie stuff: shot at f/9.0, ISO 100, exact exposure was 481 seconds on bulb. Lens was the Nikon 16-85mm zoom, at 16mm. Nikon D7000.
