Mainly trying to use up whatever energy I had in the last stretch before the finish line. The kids were cheering me on, so that helped. Ironically, the guy I passed at the end was the person directly in front of me in the standings. He still beat me by 6 seconds, so he must have started later. Same age as me. Strangely, he is well ahead of me in the photos Petra took near the start of the race. I guess he sprinted past me early on. I started off pretty slowly.
On a summer day in 2010, my friend's little brother, Herland Puertas, left a pool party with a couple friends to pick up some relatives from the airport. He was on the phone with his family when he told them a car had just crashed into his. It was the last thing he said. Someone got out of the other car and shot all three kids dead.
Herland was just 17 years old, a good student, with dreams of studying medicine. No one knows why he was killed. His brother Ricardo visits his grave and wonders.
16.07.2006: although you can walk around either side of this gate, please be sure to close it if you happen to walk through. In the grounds of Blenheim palace.
This is the first time I've seen an ice machine with a slot for the room card key instead of a button. It's so pointless, too, as the slot isn't a card reader; any card will work to activate the machine.

I was visiting my brother in Chico and I saw this little wall, not sure why it was built but it seemed worth taking a picture of.
My VW Golf hit an all-time mileage of 33880 miles when I hit 33.8 on the trip odometer, which I reset every day. All those threes and eights . . . it just seemed like a good photographic opportunity.
Maybe not . . .

Actually this barrier was rather pointless as it just led to a small dead end. But then perhaps people in 4x4s used to drive over the pavement or something....
