Arriva Kent & Surrey 1607 (GN04 UCX) takes the 436 over the Basingstoke Canal, bound for West Byfleet station on diversion.

Due to the Ride London cycle race causing significant road closures across Surrey, many bus services were subject to diversion, suspension or curtailment on Sunday 2nd August 2015.

The Arriva Sunday shuttle on the 436 (Weybridge station - Mercedes-Benz World) ran instead to/from West Byfleet station, via Oyster Lane, Woodham Lane, Scotland Bridge Road, Camphill Road and Madeira Road.

Despite it having run to West Byfleet instead every year for five years, it can't show correct LEDs, so it either goes everywhere showing "Mercedes World Brooklands 436" (which at least shows the route number) or "Arriva serving Surrey & West Sussex". Unfortunately, this year, it was doing the latter.

Millsy keeps an eye out on those still in the ocean (he spent a whole 8 seconds in the water! :-) ).

A wet and wooly Sunday led to the cancellation of the Blue Hole Club swim, but a few hardy souls braved the ocean anyway.

What could have been……

Blackpool was rare amongst operators as it resisted the charms of the Dennis Dart, both the standard and super low floor versions. It did evaluate the type and wasn’t immune to Dennis purchases, as in the early 1980s it did purchase some rare Marshall Cammair bodied Dennis Lancets. Also its first low-floor accessible double decker buses were Dennis Tridents.

However at the time that the Dart was in the ascendancy, Blackpool had a preference for Optare products and plumped for Deltas, MetroRiders, Excels and Solos over Darts. It never ordered the type new or acquired some second hand, unless you count the new Enviro 200MMCs given they’re kinda direct descendants of the Dart and the chassis bears a lot to the Dart.

However this bus is actually a former Arriva bus preserved in the area. It was new to Arriva London North as its PDL90 before it’s transfer to Arriva Wales (Cmyru) as its 922. Purchased by a local preservationist it’s been repainted into Blackpool’s green and cream livery from the 1990s including its tower and waves fleetname. I know purists will be agog at this and some will even point out that based on the bus’s age, it should be Metro Coastlines livery to be period correct. But I don’t mind it. It’s the owner’s decision what to repaint it into after all. It also has acquired a white LED screen and seems to be stored at Blackpool’s Rigby Road depot.

Dude doesn't care about being photogenic

Bay Link Travel of Paignton had at the time recently acquired this Pointer Dart, P262NRH. New to East Yorkshire it later saw service with Shamrock, Black Velvet and more recently Brijan. Pictured here in Torquay's Fleet Street whilst operating the weekly T2 service to Trago Mills.

The conditions weren't the best, but then they haven't been for much of November! Kinda serves me right I guess for always saying I prefer wet weather pics to dry dull ones. lol!

Here she was when new. 1997 Dennis Dart SLF/Plaxton Mini Pointer seen in Badminton Road, Downend, South Gloucestershire on 548 when new in 1997. It was supplied with Barbie interior and soon repainted in Barbie livery. Can't seem to do a link on this laptop at present.

The fIrst Dennis Dart/Plaxton Pointer purchased by the company when part of the Badgerline Group. She spent most of her working life in Plymouth. She looks good, but I find it hard to think of her as a preserved vehicle because similar step-entrance buses have only just been withdrawn in Bristol area! 2014 Penzance running day.

Transit Group may be all but forgotten in Milton Keynes but they will live on through this model. It is a resin bodyshell of the 8.5m Dennis Dart/Plaxton Pointer produced by Paragon Road Services to fit the shortened chassis, interior and glazing of an EFE diecast, and represents one of the many such vehicles in the Transit fleet. This one, originally DR111 (J611 DUV), was unusual in retaining its Routemaster registration WLT 946 after leaving London service.

If you have time, listen to a golden oldie!!!
