Saignon
Saignon is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. The nearest town is Apt (4 km).
The village is on the edge of the plateau des Claparèdes. This plateau, which rises to 821 meters at a place called l’Ourillon, is a relief Apt basin. There is a bakery/cafe, two restaurants, and a general store. The school has about 100 students and is attached to the post office.
The area was first occupied in the Middle Palaeolithic age. The rock at Saignon, on a prominent location over the valley, was used as an ancient observatory and possibly a signal station. The name Saignon is believed to derive from word Sagnio, which comes from the word signum.
The 12th century Romanesque church of Notre-Dame de Pitié, also known as Saint Mary of Saignon, has been a stopping point for religious pilgrims since the Middle Ages: in addition to local pilgrims from Provence, it was positioned on the way for those traveling to Rome along the Via Domitia, and for Italian pilgrims going to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
The 11th century Benedictine Abbaye Saint-Eusèbe, located just outside the town, traces its history to an earlier 6th century structure. After being destroyed and rebuilt several times, the Lord of Saignon restored the abbey to the Order of Saint Giles, which received support from the Benedictine Cluny Abbey and its abbot, St. Odilon. Pope Urban II passed through the area in 1096 and devoted the church which had been recently rebuilt. The abbey is now rented to the public for events.

On the west coast of Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher are one of the most outstanding coastal features of Ireland. Rising slowly from the Village of Doolin they ascend to over 700 feet (213 metres) stretching south for nearly five miles (8km) to Hags head. If you go on the edge of the Cliffs, please don't sneeze if you don't want to fly as a stone bird ;-))

We made a bustrip to the Teide. Climbing from sealevel to 2200 meters above sealevel. Everything changes. From the Playa Américas through the rocky surroundings, banana plantations and a pine tree forest to a landscape of vulcanic rocks. All on one road!
Cap Spartel 06/07/2023 12h38
A special place in the area of Tanger is this cape. The northwesternmost point of the African continent.
Cap Spartel
Cape Spartel (Arabic: رأس سبارطيل, Moroccan Arabic: أشبرتال, French: Cap Spartel, Spanish: Cabo Espartel) is a promontory in Morocco about 1,000 feet (300 m) above sea level at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, 12 km west of Tangier. It is the northwesternmost point of the African continent. Below the cape are the Caves of Hercules.
According to Mohamed Chafik, the name of this location is derived from Latin spartium, which is the name of a plant genus (Spanish broom).
The cape rises to a height of 326 m. at the top of Jebel Quebir, where a lighthouse built by Sultan Muhammad IV in 1864 is situated at the end of a cliff.
Renovation of the whole Cape Spartel site was started in 2020 and completed in 2021. It is now open to the public and includes a maritime museum, restaurant, botanical garden and an event space. Visitors can also access the top of the lighthouse to enjoy the stunning view of the strait of Gibraltar. Cape Spartel is accessible from the National Road S701.

A beautiful square and view point we experienced during our City Tour by bus. A good place to come back.
Tanger
Tanger ( طنجة) is a city in northwestern Morocco, on the coasts of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The city is the capital of the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, as well as the Tangier-Assilah Prefecture of Morocco.
Many civilisations and cultures have influenced the history of Tangier, starting from before the 10th century BCE. Starting as a strategic Phoenician town and trading centre, Tangier has been a nexus for many cultures. In 1923, it became an international zone managed by colonial powers and became a destination for many European and American diplomats, spies, bohemians, writers and businessmen. That status came to an end with Moroccan independence, in phases between 1956 and 1960.
By the early 21st century, Tangier was undergoing rapid development and modernisation. Projects include tourism projects along the bay, a modern business district called Tangier City Centre, an airport terminal, and a football stadium. Tangier's economy is set to benefit greatly from the Tanger-Med port.
