MARS_75 [20 points]
A revisit of MARS_75 near the stairs of Gare Marseille Saint-Charles. When I visited this one in 2021 there was overcast and three years later this blue one is bathing in full sunshine. A space invader with a view!
This space invader is part of the 4th wave of Invader in this city, where he added a whopping 84 new space invaders to the existing 13 from three previous waves (two in 2004, one in 2014) in August 2020.
Onscreen FlashInvaders message: MUY BIEN!

Parvis du Sacré-Cœur 04/01/2024 09h06
One of the most beautiful freely accessible view points in Paris; the forecourt of the Sacre-Cœur on the Butte Montmartre. The mecca for love locks has moved from Pont des Arts to these fences in front of the Sacré-Cœur.
Montmarte
Montmartre s a large hill in Paris's northern 18th arrondissement. It is 130 meters high and gives its name to the surrounding district, part of the Right Bank. Montmartre is primarily known for its artistic history, for the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur on its summit, and as a nightclub district.
The other church on the hill, Saint Pierre de Montmartre, built in 1147, was the church of the prestigious Montmartre Abbey. On 15 August 1534, Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Saint Francis Xavier and five other companions bound themselves by vows in the Martyrium of Saint Denis, 11 Rue Yvonne Le Tac, the first step in the creation of the Jesuits.
Chapelle Saint-Michel 03/02/2024 10h08
The little chapelle at the altifude of 1343 meters; the Chapelle Saint-Michel. This was my mission on the Saturday morning.
Hike Facts: I started climbing at 8h40 (temperature 1° C), experienced sunrise from behind mountain at 9h09, reachted Le Replacet at 9h25 and the Chapelle Saint-Michel at 10h05. Termperature 7° C. Stayed here 47 minutes. Descend started at 10h52 and I arrived at the church at 12h04. Temperature 14° C. Climbing the 533 meters up in 1h25 (2.6 km) and down 1h10.
Bourg Saint-Maurice
Bourg-Saint-Maurice is part of the Paradiski ski area (425 km of slopes, 141 lifts, 239 slopes - 12 Green, 132 Blue, 66 Red, 29 Black). Although there is no skiing at this altitude, it is conveniently linked to Arc 1600 by the Arc en Ciel funicular railway and is therefore home to many budget rental properties. Unlike the other villages that make up Les Arcs, Bourg-Saint-Maurice is open all year.
Bourg is also a popular summer destination, as it offers lots of opportunity for lovers of the outdoors and watersports. There is a whitewater slalom course on the Isere river used for international canoe and kayak competitions. The course on the Isere has been host to the ICF world championships and is used by many European teams as a training course in the summer. The course is often changed by the floods that occur during the winter months.
The surrounding mountains are good for walking and mountain biking. They also are a good place for paragliding and hang gliding. Some of Les Arcs ski lifts operate during July and August to get walkers to the higher peaks and you can take mountain bikes up on these. Mountain bikes ( VTT (Vélo Tout Terrain) in French) can be hired in both Bourg and Les Arcs. Some of the high altitude restaurants open in these months, the ones at Pre st Esprit and L'Arpete have small outdoor pools.
The nearest summer glacier skiing is in Tignes (approximately 27 km from Bourg) on the Grande Motte, however due to glacial recession it is now closed at certain times of the year.

The rooftop the Arc de Tiomphe is one of the places in Paris to have a view of the city. Tour Eiffel, Tour Montparnasse, La Défense, Montmartre and many rooftops can be seen here.

Rabat
Rabat is the capital city of Morocco and the country's seventh-largest city with an urban population of approximately 580,000 (2014) and a metropolitan population of over 1.2 million. It is also the capital city of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra administrative region. Rabat is located on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the river Bou Regreg, opposite Salé, the city's main commuter town. Rabat was founded in the 12th century by the Almohads. The city grew at first but went into an extended period of decline following the collapse of the Almohads and in the 17th century, Rabat became a haven for Barbary pirates. When the French established a protectorate over Morocco in 1912 they made Rabat its administrative center. When Morocco achieved independence in 1955 Rabat became its capital.
Rabat, Temara, and Salé form a conurbation of over 1.8 million people. Silt-related problems have diminished Rabat's role as a port; however, Rabat and Salé still maintain important textile, food processing and construction industries. In addition, tourism and the presence of all foreign embassies in Morocco make Rabat one of the most important cities in the country. The Moroccan capital was ranked at second place by CNN in its "Top Travel Destinations of 2013. It is one of four Imperial cities of Morocco, and the medina of Rabat is listed as a World Heritage Site. Rabat is accessible by train through the ONCF system and by plane through the nearby Rabat–Salé Airport.
Rabat-Ville and Rabat Agdal are the two main inter-city stations, from which trains run south to Casablanca, Marrakech and El Jadida, north to Tangier, or east to Meknes, Fez, Taza and Oujda.
The Rabat–Salé tramway was the first tramway network in Morocco and connects Rabat with Salé across the river. Opened on 11 May 2011 and the network has two lines with a total length of 26.9 km and 43 stations. In 2023, an extension of the network was being planned and is due to be completed by 2028. The network was constructed by Alstom Citadis and is operated by Transdev.

Mont Ventoux | View Point 06/07/2014 14h20
To get a good view to the North from the summit of the Mont Ventoux they have created this view point about 200 meters from the observation tower and centre ville of the Mont Ventoux. Overlooking the Drôme and Vaucluse at the same time in North East direction.
Mont Ventoux
Mont Ventoux (Ventor in Provençal) is a mountain in the Provence region of southern France, located some 20 km northeast of Carpentras, Vaucluse. On the north side, the mountain borders the Drôme département. It is the largest mountain in the region and has been nicknamed the "Beast of Provence"] the "Giant of Provence", or "The Bald Mountain". It has gained fame through its use in the Tour de France cycling race.
As the name might suggest (venteux means windy in French), it can get windy at the summit, especially with the mistral; wind speeds as high as 320 km/h have been recorded. The wind blows at 90+ km/h 240 days a year. The road over the mountain is often closed due to high winds. Especially the "col de tempêtes" ("storm pass") just before the summit, which is known for its strong winds. The real origins of the name are thought to trace back to the 1st or 2nd century AD, when it was named 'Vintur' after a Gaulish god of the summits, or 'Ven-Top', meaning "snowy peak" in the ancient Gallic language. In the 10th century, the names Mons Ventosus and Mons Ventorius appear.
Mont Ventoux, although geologically part of the Alps, is often considered to be separate from them, due to the lack of mountains of a similar height nearby. It stands alone to the north of the Luberon range, separated by the Monts de Vaucluse, and just to the east of the Dentelles de Montmirail, its foothills. The top of the mountain is bare limestone without vegetation or trees, which makes the mountain's barren peak appear from a distance to be snow-capped all year round (its snow cover actually lasts from December to April). Its isolated position overlooking the valley of the Rhône ensures that it dominates the entire region and can be seen from many miles away on a clear day.

Grottes d'Hercule
Grottes d'Hercule (Caves of Hercules) is an archaeological cave complex located in Cape Spartel, Morocco. located 14 kilometers west of Tanger. The cave has two openings, one to the sea and one to land. The sea opening is known as "The Map of Africa." It is believed that the Phoenicians created the sea opening, which is in the shape of Africa when looked at from the sea. There are also some markings on the wall in the shape of eyes, that are said to have been made by the Phoenicians, which make up a map of the local area.
The cave itself is part natural and part man-made. The man-made part was used by Berber people to cut stone wheels from the walls, to make millstones, thus expanding the cave considerably.
The cave was long thought to be bottomless. It was believed that the cave is one end of a subterranean ley tunnel over 24 kilometres long which passes under the Strait of Gibraltar and emerges at St. Michael's Cave in Gibraltar. Legend has it that the Barbary macaques came to the Rock of Gibraltar from Morocco this way.

Once upon a time, there was nothing here. Only rocks and the waves of the ocean.
Then they came and the place was outnumbered.
Always more people. Always higher buildings.
And the rocks disappeared under the city.
D'abord, il n'y avait rien. Quelques rochers, quelques palmiers, le vent et l'océan.
Puis il sont venus. Toujours plus nombreux.
Les hotels se sont élevés, toujours plus haut.
Et les rochers ont disparu sous la cité.
