Castelo de São Jorge 26/09/2010 15h34
From the terrace of the castle the view over the city and Rio Tejo is fanstastic.
Castelo de São Jorge
The Castle of São Jorge (Castelo de São Jorge) is a moorish castle that occupies a commanding position overlooking the city of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, and the broad Rio Tejo beyond. The strongly-fortified citadel, which, in its present configuration, dates from medieval times, is located atop the highest hill in the historic center of the city. The castle is one of the main historical and touristic sites of Lisbon.

Paris 17ème & Tour Pleyel 29/05/2012 18h17
A view Northbound from the Arc de Triomphe. Overlooking the 17ème and a part of the 18ème arrondissement and in the middle the Tour Pleyel in Saint-Denis. The distance to this tower is from this point of view 5 to 6 kilometers crow flies.
Tour Pleyel
Tour Pleyel is a skyscraper of mixed use, both residential and commercial, located in the commune of Saint-Denis.
Built in 1972, the tower is 129 meters tall. At the top is a large turning advertising sign, in place since 1997 (the advertisement was firstly for Philips, and has been for Siemens since 2006). Including that advertising sign, the total height of the tower is 143 meters (37 floors).
The tower has been built at the former location of the Pleyel factories. Several projects have been proposed since 1959, the one which had been adopted was planning the building of 4 identical towers in the middle of a large urban park of 4 ha. Plans for heliports on the roofs of the towers were even made. Only one of the originally planned towers has been built.
The tower is located nearby the metro station of Carrefour Pleyel on Line 13.

Happy New Year: This is already my 16th year of this selfportrait project. In total 783 selfies including this one and 2 years had 53 weeks. Excluding the 66 photos who didn't make it to the selfie of the week but were too good not to upload on FlickR. Every week is still a challenge to find a location or subject for my fifty-two.
Promising 2024: You wil never know what will happen but I am looking forward what this year might bring. First of all Mehdi in Amsterdam for me personally. Then we will have the Olympic Games in July and August in Paris and the new haunted experience in De Efteling Danse Macabre. And hopefully peace will return to Gaza and Palestine. At least a ceasefire. And hopefully other countries will come to their senses, including Russia, North Korea, Iran and Israel.
Paris: Paris is the capital and most populous city of France. With an official estimated population of 2,102,650 residents as of 1 January 2023. in an area of more than 105 km2 Paris is the fourth-most populated city in the European Union and the 30th most densely populated city in the world in 2022. Since the 17th century, Paris has been one of the world's major centres of finance, diplomacy, commerce, culture, fashion, and gastronomy. For its leading role in the arts and sciences, as well as its early and extensive system of street lighting, in the 19th century, it became known as the City of Light.

Bourg-Saint-Maurice 08/03/2014 17h06
A view over Bourg-Saint-Maurice in the Savoie as seen from the Chapelle Saint-Michel on an altitude of 1343 meters. Bourg-Saint-Maurice is located on an altitude of about 850 meters.
Bourg Saint-Maurice
Bourg-Saint-Maurice is part of the Paradiski ski area (425 km of slopes, 141 lifts, 239 slopes - 12 Green, 132 Blue, 66 Red, 29 Black). Although there is no skiing at this altitude, it is conveniently linked to Arc 1600 by the Arc en Ciel funicular railway and is therefore home to many budget rental properties. Unlike the other villages that make up Les Arcs, Bourg-Saint-Maurice is open all year.
Bourg is also a popular summer destination, as it offers lots of opportunity for lovers of the outdoors and watersports. There is a whitewater slalom course on the Isere river used for international canoe and kayak competitions. The course on the Isere has been host to the ICF world championships and is used by many European teams as a training course in the summer. The course is often changed by the floods that occur during the winter months.
The surrounding mountains are good for walking and mountain biking. They also are a good place for paragliding and hang gliding. Some of Les Arcs ski lifts operate during July and August to get walkers to the higher peaks and you can take mountain bikes up on these. Mountain bikes ( VTT (Vélo Tout Terrain) in French) can be hired in both Bourg and Les Arcs. Some of the high altitude restaurants open in these months, the ones at Pre st Esprit and L'Arpete have small outdoor pools.
The nearest summer glacier skiing is in Tignes (approximately 27 km from Bourg) on the Grande Motte, however due to glacial recession it is now closed at certain times of the year.

Outlining a Theory of General Creativity .. on a 'Pataphysical way
Entropy ≥ Memory . Creativity ²
Entropy ≥ Mimesis . Catharsis ²
Study of the day:
Il nous reste à trouver une nouvelle raison d'être, pour faire quelque chose de différent, mais aussi qui se tienne. Si ça n'a pas de vraie cohérence, mieux vaut laisser tomber. Je n'ai rien contre l'orthodoxie en soi. Mais il est essentiel quand on enregistre, d'éclairer les choses selon un nouvel angle, de recréer l'oeuvre, de transformer l'interprétation en un acte de composition.
We have to find a new rationale, to do something different, but also that holds on. If it is not really consistent, it is better to let it down. I have nothing against orthodoxy in itself, but it is essential when performing, to enlighten things from a new angle to recreate the work, to transform interpretation in an act of composition.

MARS_75 [20 points]
A revisit of MARS_75 near the stairs of Gare Marseille Saint-Charles. When I visited this one in 2021 there was overcast and three years later this blue one is bathing in full sunshine. A space invader with a view!
This space invader is part of the 4th wave of Invader in this city, where he added a whopping 84 new space invaders to the existing 13 from three previous waves (two in 2004, one in 2014) in August 2020.

Parvis du Sacré-Cœur 04/01/2024 09h06
One of the most beautiful freely accessible view points in Paris; the forecourt of the Sacre-Cœur on the Butte Montmartre. The mecca for love locks has moved from Pont des Arts to these fences in front of the Sacré-Cœur.
Montmarte
Montmartre s a large hill in Paris's northern 18th arrondissement. It is 130 meters high and gives its name to the surrounding district, part of the Right Bank. Montmartre is primarily known for its artistic history, for the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur on its summit, and as a nightclub district.
The other church on the hill, Saint Pierre de Montmartre, built in 1147, was the church of the prestigious Montmartre Abbey. On 15 August 1534, Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Saint Francis Xavier and five other companions bound themselves by vows in the Martyrium of Saint Denis, 11 Rue Yvonne Le Tac, the first step in the creation of the Jesuits.

Mont Ventoux | View Point 06/07/2014 14h20
To get a good view to the North from the summit of the Mont Ventoux they have created this view point about 200 meters from the observation tower and centre ville of the Mont Ventoux. Overlooking the Drôme and Vaucluse at the same time in North East direction.
Mont Ventoux
Mont Ventoux (Ventor in Provençal) is a mountain in the Provence region of southern France, located some 20 km northeast of Carpentras, Vaucluse. On the north side, the mountain borders the Drôme département. It is the largest mountain in the region and has been nicknamed the "Beast of Provence"] the "Giant of Provence", or "The Bald Mountain". It has gained fame through its use in the Tour de France cycling race.
As the name might suggest (venteux means windy in French), it can get windy at the summit, especially with the mistral; wind speeds as high as 320 km/h have been recorded. The wind blows at 90+ km/h 240 days a year. The road over the mountain is often closed due to high winds. Especially the "col de tempêtes" ("storm pass") just before the summit, which is known for its strong winds. The real origins of the name are thought to trace back to the 1st or 2nd century AD, when it was named 'Vintur' after a Gaulish god of the summits, or 'Ven-Top', meaning "snowy peak" in the ancient Gallic language. In the 10th century, the names Mons Ventosus and Mons Ventorius appear.
Mont Ventoux, although geologically part of the Alps, is often considered to be separate from them, due to the lack of mountains of a similar height nearby. It stands alone to the north of the Luberon range, separated by the Monts de Vaucluse, and just to the east of the Dentelles de Montmirail, its foothills. The top of the mountain is bare limestone without vegetation or trees, which makes the mountain's barren peak appear from a distance to be snow-capped all year round (its snow cover actually lasts from December to April). Its isolated position overlooking the valley of the Rhône ensures that it dominates the entire region and can be seen from many miles away on a clear day.
