Once upon a time, there was nothing here. Only rocks and the waves of the ocean.
Then they came and the place was outnumbered.
Always more people. Always higher buildings.
And the rocks disappeared under the city.
D'abord, il n'y avait rien. Quelques rochers, quelques palmiers, le vent et l'océan.
Puis il sont venus. Toujours plus nombreux.
Les hotels se sont élevés, toujours plus haut.
Et les rochers ont disparu sous la cité.

Boulevard Haussmann 21/07/2023 11h02
People enjoy the view of Paris from the roof terrace of Galeries Lafayette on Boulevard Haussmann.
Boulevard Haussmann
Boulevard Haussmann, 2.5 kilometres long from the 8th to the 9th arrondissement, is one of the wide tree-lined boulevards created in Paris by Napoleon III, under the direction of his Prefect of the Seine, Baron Haussmann.
The Boulevard Haussmann is mostly lined with apartment blocks, whose regulated cornice height gives a pleasing eyeline to the Boulevard. The department stores Galeries Lafayette and Au Printemps are sited on this street.
From 1906 to 1919, the novelist Marcel Proust (1871–1922) lived at No. 102. There, in his cork-lined bedroom (now on display in the Carnavalet Museum), he wrote the major part of À la recherche du temps perdu. Alan Bates starred in 102 Boulevard Haussmann, a 1990 play written by Alan Bennett.
At 158 there is the Musée Jacquemart-André.
The Impressionist and patron of other artists Gustave Caillebotte (1848 – 1894) painted the Boulevard in many different lights as the days and seasons changed.
Marks & Spencer, the British department store chain, opened a store on Boulevard Haussmann in 1975 when it opened its first overseas stores.

Saignon
Saignon is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. The nearest town is Apt (4 km).
The village is on the edge of the plateau des Claparèdes. This plateau, which rises to 821 meters at a place called l’Ourillon, is a relief Apt basin. There is a bakery/cafe, two restaurants, and a general store. The school has about 100 students and is attached to the post office.
The area was first occupied in the Middle Palaeolithic age. The rock at Saignon, on a prominent location over the valley, was used as an ancient observatory and possibly a signal station. The name Saignon is believed to derive from word Sagnio, which comes from the word signum.
The 12th century Romanesque church of Notre-Dame de Pitié, also known as Saint Mary of Saignon, has been a stopping point for religious pilgrims since the Middle Ages: in addition to local pilgrims from Provence, it was positioned on the way for those traveling to Rome along the Via Domitia, and for Italian pilgrims going to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
The 11th century Benedictine Abbaye Saint-Eusèbe, located just outside the town, traces its history to an earlier 6th century structure. After being destroyed and rebuilt several times, the Lord of Saignon restored the abbey to the Order of Saint Giles, which received support from the Benedictine Cluny Abbey and its abbot, St. Odilon. Pope Urban II passed through the area in 1096 and devoted the church which had been recently rebuilt. The abbey is now rented to the public for events.

On the west coast of Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher are one of the most outstanding coastal features of Ireland. Rising slowly from the Village of Doolin they ascend to over 700 feet (213 metres) stretching south for nearly five miles (8km) to Hags head. If you go on the edge of the Cliffs, please don't sneeze if you don't want to fly as a stone bird ;-))
