the los angeles department of water and power (LADWP) power plant no. 1 continues to generate hydroelectric energy along the LA aqueduct, nearly 100 years after it went online in 1917 as los angeles' first source of municipal power. this century-old westinghouse turbine (one of five at the plant) is still in use to generate electricity.

Shortly after taking off from Iceland's Keflavik International Airport we were cruising above the clouds. I couldn't resist stretching over Karen and jamming my camera up against the window to capture this view. It doesn't seem to matter how many times you witness this scene it always impresses.

This was the first time we'd seen a whole sun during our brief Icelandic adventure and, even if we couldn't feel its warmth, it felt good; the blanket of clouds below fascinated as always. A great end to a magical 5 days.

At 11pm last night a photography mate, who loves leica!, suggested a sunrise shoot at the Seacliff Bridge, in Clifton and Scarborough. So after a 4am rise and an hour drive south of Sydney I arrived at the bridge. It was still very dark and we had brought our torches to find our way to the top of the lookout. It's about a 30 minute climb, complete with leeches and a lot of bush bashing, slipping and falling. When we arrived to the top of the climb there was a group of photographers already up there, huh! I didnt expect that. This was actually the first shot I took with my camera setup, Sony A7R, and was stoked with the long car trails along the bridge. The forecast had been for a sunny morning but instead mother nature had other ideas and at times it was sprinkling with rain.

Prehistoric settlement on the water. Restored houses 5 meters from the bottom of the sunny waters of Lake Ohrid. This is only a small part of what existed here around 1200 BC. In ancient times, this settlement had 60 houses and was connected to the shore by the use of a movable bridge.

A site where the underwater archaeological explorations brought out stone tools, ceramics and bones of animals and deer horns. Settlement reconstructed in 2008, wooden houses above the level of water, and museum with the salvaged artifacts.

A place where, during the warm summer evenings, theatrical performances are held and the spirits of the ancient past are brought back.

"Princess Seraphine faught valiently to free the Monarch Kingdom from the tyrant bird, Screech, who had devoured their people for far too long. After a swift victory there is finally peace once more thanks to this mighty mouse..."

Built for Brickscalibur 2024 for the Digitalibur category. I haven' done as much digital building as I normally do throughout a year so it was nice to work on this project and scene depicting a female warrior mouse who has slain the bird enemy of the Monarch Kingdom and is greeted in peace by one of the butterflies. This was created using Bricklink Studio, Cinema 4D, and took 4 days to complete. All made possible with Greyscalegorilla Plugins and Puget Systems machine.

EasterVisual and plugin demo by bennoeH.

This is a screenshot from an Easter visual,

specifically a Resolume Arena composition.

It features a 3D animated Easter egg in the foreground

and two ISF-based Arena plugins running in the

background.

The plugin on the rearmost/bottom layer is fully

visible but its brightness has been reduced.

The plugin above it, positioned between the egg

and the 100% background plugin, has been

processed with a luminance mask so that only

parts of it remain visible.

Each element has its own animation sequence.

A slight drop shadow effect was added to the 3D egg

to make it stand out more from the backgrounds,

and the color saturation of the middle layer was

increased, with the hue shifted slightly towards

red/yellow.

All layers function as independent loops, meaning

they are infinitely endles. Each layer has a different

total length, in the combination it's resulting in

continuously new compositions so that it givs no

absolute repetitions.

What better fun than a day at the locomotive races? Racing locomotives are designed with only speed in mind and incorporate lighter metals, large driving wheels, and gigantic pistons. A single "jockey" stokes the firebox with high-grade coal to coax every possible ounce of steam from the boiler. The boiler's low center of gravity is crucial for taking turns at blistering speeds without derailing. In the final leg of the race, the skilled jockey must release the tender at the right moment to increase speed, but leave the engine with enough steam to cross the finish line.

Testing DxO PureRAW 6. I had not upgraded to Version 5 and occasionally used Version 4 - but most of the time I relied on Adobe ACR and the various Topaz plugins (and lately Topaz Photo).

DxO PureRAW requires a totally different workflow as it is used prior to processing the image in ACR. It's main benefits are the much better lens corrections that are applied and it also appears that it performs better noise reduction than ACR does (and also Topaz).

DxO PureRAW 6 offers the option to write a compressed DNG files (allegedly lossless) that usually is smaller than even the original RAW file (and not the usual 3-5x file size of a regular DNG).

One problem I have is that I cannot get the compressed DNG to preview in the file explorer in windows. Makes it rather useless to keep. So my current solution is to write those DNG files into a temporary folder and delete after I finished processing. There is no option to export into ACR without writing a file; there is an option to open as a smart object directly into photoshop but that doesn't suit me at all as I am used to do most of my processing in ACR.

I may keep DxO PureRAW updated but will no longer update DxO PhotoLab as I rarely ever use it and DxO PureRAW gives me the two items I value most - lens correction and denoise.

I also just cancelled my Capture one subscription. I intended to use the program for my Sony images (general photography) but I simply can't get used to the program and it therefore is not worth the $200/year for me anymore.

I'm a huge fan of Topaz labs and their plugins. They just released a monster of a plugin. Topaz labs

Texture Effects. Haven't had much time to play with it yet, but here is my first go with it.
