Ewan and Jordan were both not well on Thursday and so it was a good opportunity to build some dinosaurs!
Internationally-noted sculptor Jim Gary (1939-2006) salvaged auto parts from junkyards to create this and other prehistoric creatures. Through his skill discarded vehicles from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s gained new life as vividly-colored dinosaurs that evoke both movement and personality. He intended his recycled or "found object" art to remind people that "our natural resources are precious, and if we are not more careful we could end up extinct." (Tallahassee Museum)
Ichthyosaurus (left) and Plesiosaurus (right) reptiles, 19th-century artwork. These extinct marine reptiles co-existed in the Early Jurassic Period (200 to 176 million years ago). They are examples of ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs. The largest ichthyosaurs were over 10 metres long. The largest plesiosaurs reached up to 15 metres in length. The two were often depicted in battle. The water spouts and blowholes on the Ichthyosaurus are now known to be inaccurate. Artwork from 'The World Before the Deluge' (Louis Figuier, 1891 edition).
