We are a family of book worms... seems this dinosaur & dragon loving boy is just the same. If you sit still long enough, he'll snuggle up with a book (or six) with you and spend hours discussing the virtues of a plesiosaurus and whether a giant croc (a dinosucruas, gee I've learned something!) could eat it whole or not. Oh the gore of it all.... today's shot was a quick break from deck-building but he managed to wrangle a book out of my dad :-)
First cuts. The design inspired by my cat who used to pinch beanie toys from the local toddlers. He once came home with a rather large knitted Plesiosaurus - Who gives their kid a Plesiosaurus for goodness sake?
Ichthyosaurus (left) and Plesiosaurus (right) reptiles, 19th-century illustration. These extinct marine reptiles co-existed in the Early Jurassic Period (200 to 176 million years ago). They are examples of ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs. The largest ichthyosaurs were over 10 metres long. The largest plesiosaurs reached up to 15 metres in length. The two were often depicted in battle. The water spouts and blowholes on the Ichthyosaurus are now known to be inaccurate. This artwork was published in an 1864 edition of 'The World Before the Deluge' by Louis Figuier.
