Yup, it happened, I'm a dinosaur(but really not - water dinosaurs aren't actually dinosaurs).
If you ever wanted to terrorized the seas, take this baby for a ride, it has been newly updated to mesh, and you can find it at Chronicles and Legends.
I took it for a spin at Creations Park, which has an extensive underwater area.
Thistle quietly studies the plesiosaurus in a grove of giant red garnet amaranth, confident that she is not in danger of being eaten. This particular species of reptile (plesiorosaurus porphyreos, meaning nearly pink reptile) gets its colour from the leaves of the amaranth in much the same way that flamingos get their colour from the shellfish they eat.
She is getting tired of these imaginary paleological jaunts and would like to find something tasty for herself -- maybe a cheeseburger and fries.
Editorial Note: This is the last batch of Red Garnet Amaranth microgreens I will be growing. They are really pretty but they are a pain in the neck to grow and they taste -- well, red.

Officially entitled 'The Leviathan' , this sculpture, known as The Plymouth Prawn sits on top of a pole near the Mayflower Steps in Plymouth's Barbican.
Created by Brian Fell and unveiled in 1996 it is made from copper painted mild steel and represents sea creatures landed by Plymouth's fisherman.
It has a cormorant’s feet, a plesiosaurus’s tail, the fin of a John Dory, a lobster’s claws and the head of an angler fish but no actual prawn !

"...At that I understood. At the risk of disappointing Richardson I stayed on, waiting for the Time Traveller; waiting for the second, perhaps still stranger story, and the specimens and photographs he would bring with him. But I am beginning now to fear that I must wait a lifetime. The Time Traveller vanished three years ago. And, as everybody knows now, he has never returned. One cannot choose but wonder. Will he ever return? It may be that he swept back into the past, and fell among the blood-drinking, hairy savages of the Age of Unpolished Stone; into the abysses of the Cretaceous Sea; or among the grotesque saurians, the huge reptilian brutes of the Jurassic times. He may even now—if I may use the phrase—be wandering on some plesiosaurus-haunted Oolitic coral reef, or beside the lonely saline lakes of the Triassic Age. Or did he go forward, into one of the nearer ages, in which men are still men, but with the riddles of our own time answered and its wearisome problems solved? Into the manhood of the race: for I, for my own part cannot think that these latter days of weak experiment, fragmentary theory, and mutual discord are indeed man’s culminating time! I say, for my own part. He, I know—for the question had been discussed among us long before the Time Machine was made—thought but cheerlessly of the Advancement of Mankind, and saw in the growing pile of civilization only a foolish heaping that must inevitably fall back upon and destroy its makers in the end. If that is so, it remains for us to live as though it were not so. But to me the future is still black and blank—is a vast ignorance, lit at a few casual places by the memory of his story. And I have by me, for my comfort, two strange white flowers—shrivelled now, and brown and flat and brittle—to witness that even when mind and strength had gone, gratitude and a mutual tenderness still lived on in the heart of man" :: "The Time Machine" by H.G. Wells

Prehistoric Mural
Western Cuba, a favorite destination for visitors interested in nature tourism, has the Viñales Valley, whose origin dates back to more than 300 million years ago, as an attraction par excellence to enjoy that tourist modality.
According to experts, the Viñales Valley is an exceptional scenery, in which its unique nature and the preservation of the environment blend with the agricultural work of men and women, especially in tobacco fields.
Covering an area of 132 square kilometers, the Viñales Valley is also the most outstanding exponent of a chalky valley in the Antilles, and is surrounded by hills with round tops and vertical slopes, known as "mogotes".
It is precisely in one of these peculiar hills, known as "Dos Hermanas" (Two Sisters), where visitors can enjoy one of the world's biggest outdoors natural paintings, the so-called Mural of Prehistory.
The Mural of Prehistory, which is 120 meters high and 180 meter wide, was painted on the slope of the aforementioned hill. It is a singular representation of the biological evolution of the Sierra de los Organos, also in the western province of Pinar del Río.
Experts recall that in order to paint the mural, the vegetal layer on the slope of Dos Hermanas had to be removed, while a score of local residents participated in the dangerous artistic work under the guidance of Cuban Professor Leovigildo González (deceased).
The passage of time has failed to erase this breathtaking work of art, which attracts thousands of visitors every year, who come to enjoy the images of the plesiosaurus and the megalonus rodens, painted on the hill's slope with singular ability.
The region's flora is closely linked, according to experts, to its ancient past, since it boasts 17 endemic varieties that cannot be found anywhere on Earth, including the cork palm (Microcycas calocoma), which is considered a living fossil from the Jurassic period.
Moreover, the Viñales Valley has numerous caverns, among which the Cueva del Indio - crossed by the San Vicente River -, the Cueva de San Miguel and the Cueva de Santo Tomás stand out. The latter has been classified among the largest caverns in Latin America, with more than 45 kilometers of galleries.
The town of Viñales, in the heart of the valley, is a typical agricultural settlement, whose main street is flanked by galleries of columns and red-tiled houses.
The socio-historical development of the region contains elements and sites that characterize the Cuban people - with antecedents from the aborigines, the African slaves and peasants. The unique features of the area's natural landscape surround all this.
The Viñales Valley, which was declared World Heritage by UNESCO, is also Cuba's true Natural Monument, and receives thousands of vacationers who want to be in direct contact with nature while they tour the Cuban archipelago.
Extinct monsters

Many depict the Loch Ness monster as a Plesiosaurus, such as this 1 from a bk on "Extinct monsters" in #bhlib biodiversitylibrary.org/page/14893427 #bhlpod
A very tricky shot to do, the plesiosaurus head and neck is much heavier than the body, so it kept flopping forward. which was a shame as apart from that it floats wonderfully.

Professor Lidenbrock, Axel and Hans are on their way to the center of the earth. But the road is not so calm.
"Suddenly, at no great distance from us, an enormous mass rises out of the waters—the head of the great Plesiosaurus. The terrible monster is now wounded unto death. I can see nothing now of his enormous body. All that could be distinguished was his serpent-like neck, which he twisted and curled in all the agonies of death. Now he struck the waters with it as if it had been a gigantic whip, and then again wriggled like a worm cut in two. The water was spurted up to a great distance in all directions. A great portion of it swept over our raft and nearly blinded us. But soon the end of the beast approached nearer and nearer; his movements slackened visibly; his contortions almost ceased; and at last the body of the mighty snake lay an inert, dead mass on the surface of the now calm and placid waters.
As for the Ichthyosaurus, has he gone down to his mighty cavern under the sea to rest, or will he reappear to destroy us?" Jules Verne.

I decided to make a plesiosaurus after seeing one on Flickr recently so here it is.
Simple reference and folding sequence. The only slight difficulty is that not all the lines in the front fin are based on 22.5 degrees.
Reptiles used to like getting stoked to the max, but now they only like sunbathing and moving slowly.
Created by Satoshi Kamiya;
One uncut square of craft paper, about 22cm × 22cm;
Folded in Januar 2011;
Thank you 미르!
Scale: 1:35
Producer: Kaiyodo (Dinotales 3; CapsuleQ Museum)
Sculptor: Katsuo Takuma (left), Kuniaki Teraoka (right)
Released: 2002, 2015
Time: Early Jurassic

prepairing for an exhibition! yayyy!
pardon me the poor editing, i just wanted to throw it together as fast as possible =D
Plesiosaurs were not dinosaurs, they became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous, 65 million years ago, at the same time as the non-avian dinosaurs. Plesiosaurs had powerful swimming muscles attached to their expanded shoulder and pelvic bones, and they used their flippers to swim.
Some detail photos of the book I folded this model from, Fossil Revolution by Douglas Palmer. The model takes two pages to make (one for the body & flippers and one for the head & neck) and it just so happened to fit nicely between two pages that featured some wonderfully outdated reconstructions of plesiosaurs. I altered the model somewhat from my initial design to fit in more with these reconstructions (note the serpentine neck and the webbed rather than paddle-like flippers).
Crease pattern: www.flickr.com/photos/the_real_juston/8698591488/
Finished drawing my Plesiosaurus. It's a nice and simple model.
I will publish the diagrams somewhere soon :)
Designed by Paulius Mielinis. Folded by me, test fold from diagrams. Very good diagrams, easy to follow. The 3 big ones are folded from 12cm squares of tissue foil. The smaller green one is from a 9cm square of tissue foil. Hope you like them :D
