Rockefeller Center Christmas 2013

There is a bit of a story behind this photo. As soon as I took it I heard "Please get down that is a bench." It was so crowded you could barely move so I just moved on, but it was a great vantage point. I wish I got to work it a for more then 2 seconds.
This is one of several nearby bodies of water that are collectively known as the Reflection Lakes. That name is most certainly not due to the evergreens, but on this overcast day without a trace of sunshine, that was the only reflection in view. Fortunately, as Scarlett O' Hara (actually Margaret Mitchell) famously said: "Tomorrow is another day!".

It is the garden that attracts most of the visitors to the island.
The Italian-style gardens are organized on ten terraces, arranged in way to form a big truncated pyramid.
The statue of the Unicorn (heraldic emblem of the Borromeo family) which has on its sides the statues of Nature and Art together with several stone figures of the ancient mythology.

The tower is 18.6 m (61 ft) tall and was built in 1853. It is on three acres at the north end of a sandy beach which runs along the isthmus.

This crow was in the face of this eagle trying to grab a few morsels. It then decided it had a better chance if it really got the eagles attention by grabbing its wing feathers and pulling. The crow did not suffer any harm in the making of this photograph .
The past times…
Build in the beginning of the 20th century, the domain contained the power station, administrative buildings, official residences and green spaces.
The powerplant was build to use coal,oil & gas as fuel.
The electricity production was put to stop in 2001, and the production of steam and hot water for district heating belonged now to the past, after the build of a new powerplant.
A small active part of this almost untouched power station still gives everyday power to some surrounded industries. Since part of the power plant is always active, there are guards and blue-collar workers who work in this place. So the buildings are relatively protected from human degradations. Thus, ECVB (AKA CEFB for Centrales Électriques des Flandres et du Brabant) is a fairly unique in terms of abandoned industry.
However, recently copper thieves are there and destroy this splendid place.
… to the present time
Until now, the only damage here is the result of nature’s efforts to reclaim its territory. Moss infected the turbines and machinery, plants and grass grew from edges of the rusty metalwork.
There are turbines, exhaust pipes, gauges, control rooms, pretty much everything you would expect for an industry urbex. The boilers, turbines, electrical systems and the equipment are still more or less intact, preserved. Besides some rust and peeling paint the station is covered with dust and asbestos. It is enough to a very small effort of imagination to see the blue-collar workers working in this old power plant.
A unique feeling
I particularly like these places haunted by gigantic rusted metal monsters which lead us in the post-apocalyptic universe of comic-strip of Simon Dufleuve or games such as imaginary landscapes Fallout3 or Resident Evil.

I was in the Kelvingrove area of Glasgow about to join up with the camera club when I came across this young woman with her two friends. I couldn't resist the temptation to ask her to turn round and smile.
What are you going to do ? I see these ground hogs (or huge gopher) always begging to have their photo taken :)
Another bluebell photo from the sloping Duloe Woods, near Looe. I think I might have been sitting here or slipped and resting! Hoping to return this weekend and hoping they are still there waiting for me.

Paddington Bear might live in London, but he hails from “deepest, darkest Peru.” So it should come as no surprise that a playground on Lima’s Miraflores Boardwalk is watched over by a statue of the beloved children’s book character, clad in his famous floppy hat and duffle coat—emblazoned with the British Union Jack, as a reminder of his adopted country far away.
This particular Paddington Bear had a long journey back to his homeland. He was commissioned for the “Paddington Trail,” a collection of Paddington Bear statues designed by famous Brits (comedian Stephen Fry, in this case) and stationed around London. When the trail ended, the statue was gifted to Peru to commemorate strong ties between the two countries. He is now perched next to a playground in Parque Salazar, overlooking the Bay of Santander in the Miraflores District of Lima.

I absolutely love, love, LOVE rain. But it has rained well over 90% of the time I've been home so far, which I find to be ridiculous! At 2am last night, it started again, and I quickly went from :D to =| ... could very well be due to the fact that I spent three hours washing and waxing Scooby that morning because the forecast finally showed sunshine.. Errrrrrr, right, haha. Another wax is in its near future :]
