Sono circa 400.000 gli agnelli e i capretti che vengono uccisi in Italia ogni anno a Pasqua, in contrasto con i sentimenti di compassione, di empatia e di rinascita che questa festa rappresenta. «Anche se negli ultimi anni il numero degli agnelli e dei capretti macellati è diminuito - passando dai 4.834.473 del 2010 ai 2.353.817 del 2015 (Fonte: Istat) -

«Gli agnelli - prosegue la nota dell'associazione animalista - vengono uccisi nel primo anno d'età: storditi, sgozzati e appesi a ganci di ferro a testa in giù per favorire il dissanguamento. Il tutto, davanti agli occhi di altri piccoli agnelli, che man mano assistono alla morte dei loro compagni. Animali fatti nascere al solo scopo di essere uccisi qualche mese più tardi in prossimità di questa festa. Ci appelliamo dunque alla sempre maggiore sensibilità degli Italiani affinchè sia una Pasqua davvero buona, anche con gli agnellini».

Flower buds of the hybrid Grevillea "Poorinda Blondie". "Poorinda" is an Aboriginal word meaning light.

None of the flowers have opened fully. The plant about 3m tall was covered in inflorescences of different ages. The shape of the flowers is typical of Grevilleas. However, the colour combination of orange and red in the flowers is unusual and gives the impression that they are brown when seen at a distance. Taken in full sunlight.

As summer draws to a close, I thought it would be very appropriate for the Macro Mondays theme 'Leaf' to show a tiny bit of the decimation of my hosta plants! I have given up on my Gastropod Relocation Programme, and the snails seem to be enjoying themselves immensely.

No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.
