Please Cry/ Bitte Lachen The Neue Nationalgalerie presents Barbara Kruger's first institutional solo exhibition in Berlin. The American conceptual artist has developed a site-specific text installation for the Neue Nationalgalerie’s upper-level exhibition hall, making use of the entire space. The work seeks to engage visitors in public discussion about political and social topics.

In an expansive text installation, Barbara Kruger combines her own texts with quotes by three authors ‒ George Orwell, James Baldwin and Walter Benjamin ‒ whose writings each address major political issues: the violence of totalitarian states, the mechanisms behind societal discrimination and the dangers of biased historiography.

Through the stark graphic impact of her texts, reduced to just three colours (black, white and red), Kruger succeeds in introducing her own artistic language into Mies van der Rohe’s massive building. Aside from the topicality of the texts and their subject matter, the invitation extended to Barbara Kruger to develop this work also pays homage to her outstanding artistic contributions, whose feminist and political approaches have strongly influenced the art of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Source: smb.museum

Flower buds of the hybrid Grevillea "Poorinda Blondie". "Poorinda" is an Aboriginal word meaning light.

None of the flowers have opened fully. The plant about 3m tall was covered in inflorescences of different ages. The shape of the flowers is typical of Grevilleas. However, the colour combination of orange and red in the flowers is unusual and gives the impression that they are brown when seen at a distance. Taken in full sunlight.

Thank you for visiting. I very much appreciate the faves and very kind comments which have been left.

As summer draws to a close, I thought it would be very appropriate for the Macro Mondays theme 'Leaf' to show a tiny bit of the decimation of my hosta plants! I have given up on my Gastropod Relocation Programme, and the snails seem to be enjoying themselves immensely.

No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.

Please NO MULTIPLE INVITES or GLITTERY graphics!!!

"Person of strong character are usually the happiest. They do not blame others for troubles that can be traced to their own actions and lack of understanding. They know that no one has the power to add to their happiness or detract from it, unless they themselves allow the adverse thoughts or wicked actions of others to affect them." P. Yogananda

When our time has come

Then it’s time to go

Stop when it’s most beautiful

The clocks stop

The moment is so perfect

But time goes on

Wait a minute

I’m not ready

Time

Please stop, freeze

Time

I have to admit this photograph is exactly why I took the camera out that Sunday afternoon. Two things really interest me in landscapes: Light and the weather. It's why I love J.M.W. Turner's (1775-1851) paintings so much. Although this is more Constable (1776-1837) than Turner. The father of the Australian landscape, John Glover (1767-1849), knew both Turner and Constable very well before late in life embarking on a new career in Van Diemen's Land. Glover lived on his farm "Patterdale" at Deddington, in the foothills of Ben Lomond. But he would roam far and wide around Launceston and I'd like to think he would have seen the Tamar Valley from a point close to this. He'd be amazed at the developments.

And so said Oliver Twist in Charles Dickens's masterpiece.
