A powder room remodel. Home owner wanted something that said WOW! Her choice was Fine Marmorino Venetian Plaster from Firenze Enterprises. The plaster was applied in an old world texture and sealed with a gold metallic wax. WOW!

plaster molding in the hallway at work - looked quite good in B&W I thought

I used art plaster, but normal plaster would probably be just the same. I wanted to use a carving medium like Crea-Stone but couldn't get it in time..

Usually a high school effort , Max goes for it early.

perhaps the need to clamp down the antler so it didn't move more between pours should have been a clue to the drama that unfolded.

i thought i'd document the whole thing. not the case when seperating the two molds created what can only be described a blood fresco.

i DID get them apart. it took 20 more minutes to remoce the antler.

this is not the way things are supposed to happen. and after my log mold mastery i thought i'd be golden, this mold was so pretty and curvy.

i DID get the antler out, and i have a useable albit not perfect mold. I had to chisel the antler out (?!) and now there's a little chunk of plaster missing near the base, which will cast.

secretly though i think i'm going to like the imperfections.

15 mL of Plaster of Paris was hydrated with 7.5mL of a solution of 1mL sugar and ~20 crystals of CuCl2. On top was added about 1mL of strontium carbonate and 0.5mL of sulfur as well as about 0.03mL of copper carbonate (malachite). After the plaster had set it was heated until bluish yellow incandescence using a MAPP gas torch (gas ran out during heating).

The luminescence of this sample was particularly bright making it a challenge to photograph.
