Cadillac. Golden hour. First thought: "urban jungle." I can't really explain why I like this image as much as I do; I guess it's the quality of light, and the focus. The quality of light changed immediately after I took this shot. It was a nice reminder, at the time, that you really have to strike while the iron is hot -- especially if you're shooting in the 'real' world (as opposed to, say, a studio situation...with studio lighting and a more controlled environment). For me that's a big part of the thrill of being a photographer: finding or putting yourself in the right place at the right time, but also being open to seeing what's happening around you (being observant) -- and then being both willing and prepared to stop and try to capture what you see. It really is like being on a treasure hunt...all the time.

I built these on Saturday. These 6"x6"x8' are super heavy, but I'm hoping they will be worth the back-breaking work they were to put in.
So it took me 3 weekends and a bunch of trips to home depot but the planter box was finally finished on Sunday. Ended up being 70" by 35.5" by 2' raised by 1'. The 2x4's and 4x4's are cedar, the 2x2 corners on the planter are red wood and the top edge is a 2x6 pine. My original plan was to stain it but since we're going to be eating the plants that come out of here I decided against it. Anyhow, by the end of it I like to think I'd figured out some of the basics of how to work with wood, but honestly since I have yet to fill it with dirt I'll get back to you on that. Once we have some things actually growing in it I'll post up some more pics of it.
