.....lit by the strong morning light with the mountains in the distance. Travelling from Rakaia to Mt Somers.

Currango High Plains is a sub-alpine area within the Kosciuszko National Park. It has presented specific survival challenges to those who have sought to live there or utilise its resources. It is a vast area of treeless plains caused by cold air drainage from the higher peaks. Snow falls & blizzards are common in this area all year round but occur mainly between May and October. Frosts often occur all year round and annual rainfall in the area is in the order of 1400mm.
Experts believe this area was of great importance to the Aboriginal people. They would travel across the Bimberi Range between the Cotter River and the Goodradigbee River through Murray’s Gap and onto the Currango Plain. From there they moved up into the higher peaks in summer to feast on Bogong Moths.
I was up at 5am and in place around 7am. And yet the sun still beat me. Not sure I can get up earlier - might need to buy a tent and spend the night to get the early sunrise. I travelled down into the plains and was greeted by herds of brumbies, packs of dingoes and several foxes. More photos to come....

The plain prinia, or the plain, or white-browed wren-warbler (Prinia inornata) is a small warbler in the Cisticolidae family. It is a resident breeder from Pakistan and India to south China and southeast Asia. It was formerly included in the tawny-flanked prinia, Prinia subflava resident in Africa south of the Sahara.
Bought a bunch of 19oz bags from the supermarket. Sorted out all the colors and had some fun. Ended up with three patterns over a few hours. I plan on making more.

The Plain Prinia, or the Plain, or White-browed, Wren-Warbler[2] (Prinia inornata) is a small warbler in the cisticola family. It is a resident breeder from Pakistan and India to south China and southeast Asia. It was formerly included in the Tawny-flanked Prinia, Prinia subflava (Gmelin, 1789), resident in Africa south of the Sahara. The two are now usually considered to be separate This skulking passerine bird is typically found in wet lowland grassland, open woodland, scrub and sometimes gardens. The Plain Prinia builds its nest in a shrub or tall grass and lays 3-6 eggs. (The Tawny-flanked Prinia nests in herbage and lays 2–4 eggs.)
These 13–14 cm long warblers have short rounded wings, a longish tail, strong legs and a short black bill. In breeding plumage, adults are grey-brown above, with a short white supercilium and rufous fringes on the closed wings. Underparts are whitish-buff. The sexes are identical.
In winter, the upperparts are a warmer brown, and the underparts more buff. The tail is longer than in summer. There are a number of races differing in plumage shade. The endemic race in Sri Lanka retains summer plumage, including the shorter tail, all year round.
Like most warblers, the Plain Prinia is insectivorous. The song is a repetitive tlee-tlee-tlee.

This school opened in 1921, racially integrated in 1966 and served students from Plains, Georgia until 1979. The school's rich history of distinguished educators and progressive curriculum earned recognition at state and national levels. Graduates from this school have made tremendous contributions to Georgia, as well as the world. Notable graduates include President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn Smith Carter.
As a result of the consolidation of county schools, Plains High School closed in 1979. Through a partnership between the community of Plains and the National Park Service, the school was restored and reopened in 1996 as the main Visitors Center for the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site. In 1996 the Georgia Department of Education, Sumter County Schools, and the National Park Service initiated an educational program for students visiting

the site. The Georgia State Board of Education approved a resolution on January 15, 1997, which noted the importance of this educational facility from 1921-1979 and recognized the significant impact of the collaborative educational venture.
The 1997 Georgia General Assembly passed a bill which named Plains High School the State School of Georgia. The legislation recognized educators Julia Coleman and Y.T. Sheffield for their outstanding leadership at the school. It also noted that President Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Smith Carter were graduates of Plains High School and that President Carter served on the Sumter County School Board as his first political office.
Governor Zell Miller signed the bill into law on April 22, 1997. At this time, Plains High School was officially designated the State School of Georgia.
