I don't often shoot pinups. Not that I have anything against the genre- bodies are beautiful, and deserve to be celebrated in all their many forms. Outside of screen-shooting, pinup art has a long and vibrant history as an emblem of feminist resistance to body-shaming social mores- and an equally long and sordid history as an emblem of the patriarchal reduction of women and their bodies to objects of desire.
A subtle but significant difference exists between works created along the spectrum between these two poles. It seems that more photography-photographers are able to work with models to create pinup art that is as respectful as it is salacious or celebratory (though there are certainly plenty of skeevy creepers out there leering through the lens). Without the person-to-person negotiations between model and photographer that are a part of any real-life shoot, it seems that more (but by no means all!) screen pinup artists are creating work that tends towards the icky male-gazey and objectifying side.
Another entry into the 'Aviation Pinup Series' featuring World War 2 Aircraft and Beautiful Pinups... today's airbrushed style pinup photo features model Kayla with a tribute to the Royal Air Force with the Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX! One of the most widely recognized aircraft in the world, the Supermarine Spitfire was first flown in March of 1936. This 370mph fighter alongside the Hawker Hurricane were the leading line of defense against German Luftwaffe dominance over Great Britain in WW2 in the 'Battle of Britain.' The last Spitfire was retired from flight in 1961, with over 20,350 built (more than any other British aircraft). Powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and then later with a Rolls-Royce Griffon engine, the Spitfire was one of the few aircraft to continually be improved throughout the course of the war and after as the backbone of the Royal Air Force.

Today's throwback airbrushed style pinup photo features Kayla in this awkward moment of perfect aim! Some would say the knife thrower missed his mark or that he got too close and endangered his assistant... but in this case perhaps the knife thrower had perfect aim much to Kayla's dismay!

Today's airbrushed style pinup photo features Crystal in this car theme pinup! Out for a drive on a beautiful day by the ocean, Crystal has found herself in a bit of a pickle with an overheated radiator. She's stuck on the road for now, are there any passersbys that will stop to help her out? I think so!

A break from the holiday photos.
My daughter recently took part in a retro/50s/rockabilliy pinup parade at a local community event. I took one of the photos we did before we went out and gave it a pinup-style makeover. And here it is.
Regulars followes of this flickrstream will see that she's grown up a bit since I first started posting here :)
Incidentally, she made the skirt she's wearing. The design on it (an octopus) is hand-painted.
pinup 1of4 Vogart 138. I only have 4. Don't know if there are more. The embroidery patterns show 7 I think. Enjoy.

Today's airbrushed style pinup photo features Crystal in this USO pinup moment! Crystal didn't realize she'd have an audience when she slipped into her outfit for the USO show onboard the battleship. Thinking she was alone as she prepared her outfit, she was surprised to hear the whistling from a few hundred Navy men who had been waiting over an hour to see her in the show! That Corsair isn't enough to hide her from the boys, so she better hurry up and get ready!

Today's airbrushed style pinup photo features Crystal in this minimal classic pinup look. Going back to the roots of the classic 1940's style pinup often featured in magazines such as Esquire or True Magazine, these minimalistic pinups by George Petty and Vargas featured mainly one thing: the pinup. While the gals could have some props like telephones, household items, etc; these pinups were the classic masterpieces that defined the pinup era. These pinups were the source for thousands of nose art paintings on World War 2 aircraft.

Today's airbrushed style pinup photo features Rachel an an evening treat! Rachel has always loved popcorn, and with the current food rationing for the war, she's glad to have a reason to eat more of it! During World War 2, the rationing of many food products lead to many store bought foods being in limited or no supply at all. Americans were tasked with finding alternative ways of being self sufficient with food with things such as a Victory Garden. Growing corn was pretty easy, and because the rationing of sugar made Candy production at all all time low, Americans turned to popcorn eating what's said to be THREE times as much popcorn as ever before!

Today's airbrushed style pinup photo features Brittnee in this windy day pinup! Brittnee went out in her red jacket that had a broken button or two. Not reading the weather report closely and only hearing of sunshine, she grabbed her umbrella for shade and ventured out for a nice walk on the park. Sadly for her, she found the wind had other ideas for her and she soon found herself in an awkward situation!

Ahora sólo falta cuerpazo y lista ;D
I asked this waitress if she'd be willing to do a cheesecake shot. She not only agreed to it, but even took her hair down for the photo op. It's not often that total strangers are so accommodating, but she did a great job!
Shot on 35mm film using a point-and-shoot camera. Post work in PS.
Today's airbrushed stlye pinup photo features Kayla in this homage to the classic Firestone tire advertisements during World War 2. The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company was founded by Harvey Firestone in 1900, originally making rubber wheels for smaller forms of early transportation. As the automobile came onto the scene, he saw a future producing tires and entered into mass production. The company was tasked by the US Government to make tires for various vehicles, including the Ford-built versions of the Willys Jeep. Firestone and Henry Ford had a close friendship and made tires for most of the Ford vehicles. Aside from tires during the war, Firestone produced everything from barrage balloons, artillery shells, plastic helmet liners, and much more. During the war, their slogan was often 'Producing for War, Preparing for Peace' looking ahead to the rubber needs beyond the war with the restart in the automobile manufacturing.

Today's pinup is another in the Propaganda Style Pinup Poster series featuring Brittnee and the call to Join the US Marine Corps. The United States Marine Corps (USMC), is a separate branch within the US Navy, charged with the provision of marine troops for seizure and the defence of advanced bases and with conducting operations on land, in the air, or by sea. The Marine Corps was founded on November 10, 1775, when Congress ordered that two battalions of Marines be raised for service as landing forces with the Navy fleet. Marines have participated in all wars of the United States, being (often) first to fight. In addition, Marines have executed more than 300 landings on foreign shores and served in every major US Navy battle since 1775. It is also responsible for providing detachments for service aboard certain types of naval vessels, as well as security forces for naval shore installations and U.S. diplomatic missions in foreign countries. The Marine Corps specializes in amphibious landings, such as those undertaken against Japanese-held islands in the Pacific during World War II.
