Our last stop on Saturday was into one of the many pine forests found in the Central Tablelands. I found it very hard to shoot because of the strong contrasts and the busy nature of the subject

A patch of pine forest hidden in a hollow. Most forest in Pennsylvania is now deciduous second growth. It seems like the plants of the forest floor are also different in the pine forest.

We were really enjoyin our tents positioning: on the edge of a pine forest with a very good view of the near mountain peaks

Brosnan Forest is especially significant because 6,000 acres of its longleaf pine habitat shelter 79 family groups of endangered red-cockaded woodpeckers, making it the world’s largest population of these birds on private property under single ownership. It also includes about 800 acres of fields planted in rye, wheat, oats, and clover as food for wildlife, including non-game and game species, and 120 acres of lakes and ponds stocked with bass, bream, and catfish.
