The lighting wasn't the greatest earlier today, but it was sufficient :)
This is made up of double-pleat square spread twists with a large gap between them. The gaps are shortened with flattened pleats and the bordering intersections of the flattened pleats are inverted to the back. Pretty cool, I think, but check out the backlighting (completely different motif!): www.flickr.com/photos/brdparker/3365898871/in/set-7215760...

Photo Holder that I created using an old shutter, ivory paint, vintage mother of pearl buttons, and german glass glitter. Perfect for the Winter Photos I wanted to showcase. I used hairdresser metal roller clips that I spray painted a matching color and adorned with buttons to attach the photos. These clips were easier to use than clothespins, as they are thin and easily slide in behind each shutter section.
This morning when I woke up, I was sitting on the floor with Jessie just outside our master bedroom, where the above picture frame is hanging on the wall. Here is the conversation that ensued:
Jessie: Daddy?
Me: Yes?
Jessie: Where's Jessie in this picture? (yes, she often speaks about herself in the 3rd person)
Me: Oh...you weren't born yet.
Jessie: How about Sydney?
Me: She wasn't born yet either.
Jessie: (pause)...but where was I?
Me: You weren't born yet.
Jessie: Was I a baby?
Me: No
Jessie: Was I in mommy's tummy?
Me: No
Jessie: Hmmm (pause)....so where was I?
Me: Ummm...hmmm...nowhere.
Jessie: Oh.

This was my first attempt at decorating a picture frame using glass gems. As a substrate I used a picture frame with a mirror surround; the effect being that it shines through the coloured glass gems when situated in the light.
The frame can be stood up vertically or horizontally. The placing of the glass gems will need some adjustments for further creations as these overlap the edge of the frame a bit. However, one learns by one's mistakes :-)

Still in service after all these years. Need to resharpen the saw (has a pretty good hump in the teeth -- looks like somebody tried to cut metal with it and then just recut the teeth around the curve of damaged teeth) but it's still perfectly functional and should have another good century in it. Ought to do some de-rusting and re-painting at some point, though.
Out of town thrifting paid off. Found this space-themed pewter or lead frame, just right to display an outer space postcard I received from a Postcrossing member in Russia. Of course, I'll probably rotate what is displayed over time.
The half of the rim / picture frame is inlayed with ebony wood. Please see more about this commission on: thelateststory.com/2012/03/02/jewelry-for-museum-de-buite...
My friend Robyn made this picture frame for me for my 20th birthday. She originally painted it red and then cut out peanuts pictures out of books and glued them on teh inside of the collage. After 5 years the red was starting to look a little grungy...so I just painted it black. I also took out all the old pictures from 5 years ago and replaced them with pictures from our wedding. I fell in love with this frame all over again.
This is the original picture: www.flickr.com/photos/merdanchik/2197587192/ . I printed it and cut it for the frame.
