A hidden cove we stumbled upon (see story below) on the way back. The sun was about to set which further saturated the already amazing color of these rock formations. This really needs to be viewed Large On Black or with B l a c k M a g i c.

After testing our Hummer in deep sands the previous afternoon, we decided that it may be the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attempt the arduous unmarked 4-wheel drive on sandy track to the remote South Coyotte Buttes area in the Paria Canyon Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness Area. The next morning we tried our luck again at the Paria ranger station for the 10 walk-in permits to the North Coyote Buttes (the famous "Wave") and not too surprisingly, didn't get it 2 days in a row. The permits to the South Coyote Buttes, on the other hand, are easily available due to the difficulty of access.

So the journey began.

Planning to shoot around Cottonwood access area at dusk, we entered the wilderness area in the afternoon. Most people have finished their day hikes and left this 112,500 acres region south of highway 89. Not maintaining enough revs at the first ascent after Paw Hole, our Hummer got buried in the sands and refused to go any further. The afternoon storm decided to drop in at the perfect timing while we used shovels, floor mats, tree trunks..etc to bring this monster out of the sands again. The rest of the road until the Cottonwood Cove access is more enjoyable after this lesson.

The evening light was unflattering so we just scouted the Cottonwood Teepees area before heading back to the tent.

The rain came in again around midnight and stayed on and off until 10am next morning. The color of the sandstone was deeply saturated under overcast sky and I just kept finding more and more bizarre formations around this otherworldly place.

We were sitting at the north end of the Cottonwood Teepees after the sun came out, gazing at the distant North and South Teepees, about 1.5 miles away. North Coyote Buttes is probably another 1.5 miles further, we were guessing. The Wave seemed so close. After quite some discussions the two of us decided to march north and perhaps accidentally enter the North Buttes...

All we have was one GPS location of The Wave, which is accurate according to Google Earth. Our GPS, however, led us to a place turned out to be half mile away from The Wave, after 4 hours of walking in deep sands and scrambling on the slickrock.

The Anasazi spirits were probably messing with us.

Frustrated, exhausted, and more importantly, out of water, heading back before sunset was the only option. The camera equipments seemed to gain weight with every step and we had to take naps whenever we found big enough trees to offer shades. I was tortured by the thirst, but lying under the trees and watching the lazy clouds over us was strangely relaxing...

On the way back to Cottonwood Teepees the sun started to set. Knowing that we had roughly the right direction, we headed toward the middle section of these alien rock formations instead of following the outer path where we came from. We stumbled upon a nice hidden sand cove after scrambling up a ridge, but only to find that there is no way to get down the other side which happened to be hundreds feet of vertical drop on slick rocks. It's 7pm and the daylight had almost faded with only a hint of color in the sky. We backtracked and decided to follow the outer edge in hope to find the way we came. With only one headlamp we climbed one sand dune after another in darkness. The waypoints and tracks on our GPS were so entangled that we didn't know what to follow any more. Bushes and rocks, near and far, were all mixed together under the moonlight that we found ourselves in the middle of a maze. Lack of water for hours I might have slight delusion and started to believe that we have to stay right there in the desert for the night, without any water, and exposed to all sorts of unknown beasts in the wilderness.

We took a final look at the GPS and carefully examined the track record. At some point our track did intercept with the earlier ones we left the previous day when scouting. Forgetting all the conflicting messages the surrounding landscape was casting on us, we decided to blindly follow the GPS.

Another hour later, we were finally back at the tent.

This wonderful scene is from Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park in Bug Sur. This particular spot might be one of the prettiest locations I've ever been to. It is just gorgeous. And a beautiful waterfall (McWay Falls) spilling out into the ocean just tops it off.

Single exposure with CPL.

I have to say thanks very much to Joshua Cripps for the tips on what beaches to visit during my time here. I would have likely stumbled across some of the places, but his tips proved invaluable.

Thanks also to Jill Clardy for her tips in and around San Francisco.

My own little disclaimer to myself...I'm working off the laptop screen, so I may have to go back and re-look at a number of the shots I post while on travel.

Thanks for looking!

Name: Miseuron

Species: Makuta

Titles: The Mind Machine, The Machine with No Touch

Alignment: Evil

Personality: He is calculated, cold, intelligent. He relies on his knowledge and his love for secrets to gain the upper hand

Element: Shadow

Side Powers: Unmatched telekinetic prowess, 42 Rahkshi powers

Kanohi: Avsa

Weapons: None

Backstory:

Miseuron is a dear ally to the Corrupted Crown. During the early years of the Corrupted Crowns plans to rule over Aeos, he was involved in mortal combat with Toa Raphael. Toa Raphael, being a very adept Toa of gravity, was able to match Miseuron’s telekinetic ability to a point. The battle left Miseuron in a fatal state. Left forsaken on a concrete bridge, the Corrupted Crown recovered him before he could breathe his last breath. The Corrupted Crown worked with his allies to preserve Miseuron’s vitality, producing for him a suit that could give him constant life support and essential needs for life. Without this suit, Miseuron would surely perish from his wounds. Ironically enough, this protosteel prison had also released a new potential in his telekinetic abilities, increasing them tenfold. His new telekinetic abilities let him repel the strongest of blasts, the heaviest of objects, and the most powerful of foes. Miseuron is not usually one for revenge, but he secretly waits for the day that he can eliminate his rival, Toa Raphael, and leave his body to rot in stone.

About this photo: On our last day in Olympic National Park we spent most of the afternoon at Rialto Beach where we walked to "Hole in the Wall" at low tide. When the sun was starting to go down, we settled ourselves at some logs on the beach to enjoy the sunset. My eye fell on this huge log sitting on the beach with a big hole in it...I decided I'd have a closer look and noticed you had a nice little view through this natural window. I just had to take a photo of it!

Some information on Rialto Beach: Rialto Beach is one of the most accessible of the West End beaches. It is also one of the most popular beaches on the Olympic Peninsula. Rialto Beach boosts some of the most awesome views of the Pacific Coast. Just a few miles away from the small town of La Push, Rialto Beach is an easy hike, with Hole-in-the-Wall a popular destination.

Rialto Beach starts at the mouth of the Quillayute River and extends 6.5km/4mi past sea stacks and tide pools. The winter months bring heavy storms which can be enjoyable to watch, as well as rewarding. As the beach turns northward, Cake Rock is the massive sea stack that rises far up out of the churning sea. Dahdayla Island is also a sight to see but is much closer to the beach. It is recommend coming at low tide, but you can traverse the beach quite nicely no matter what tide it is.

Some information on Olympic National Park: Olympic National Park is located on the Olympic Peninsula west of Seattle and in the most north western corner of the mainland of the USA. This park is such a diverse and amazing place to visit. No wonder they say it's 3 parks in one! You can enjoy the amazing surf and beautiful beaches, you will see a spectacular alpine country dotted with sparkling lakes, lush meadows, glaciers, waterfalls and North America's finest temperate rain forest.

Olympic National Park is a wilderness park with much of its interior accessible only by trail. A variety of roads lead off the major Highway (101) to various destinations around the park. There are several scenic drives including the drive to Hurricane Ridge, along the Pacific Coast and through the forested valleys of the Sol Duc, Hoh and Quinault Rivers. This all provide glimpses of Olympic National Park's diversity.

ENGLISH

Vitis vinifera (Common Grape Vine) is a species of Vitis, native to the Mediterranean region, central Europe, and southwestern Asia, from Morocco and Spain north to southern Germany and east to northern Iran.

The wild grape is often classified as V. vinifera subsp. sylvestris (in some classifications considered Vitis sylvestris), with V. vinifera subsp. vinifera restricted to cultivated forms. Domesticated vines have hermaphrodite flowers, but subsp. sylvestris is dioecious (male and female flowers on separate plants) and pollination is required for fruit to develop.

Wild grapes were harvested by foragers and early farmers. For thousands of years, the fruit has been harvested for both medicinal and nutritional value; its history is intimately entwined with the history of wine.

Changes in pip shape (narrower in domesticated forms) and distribution point to domestication occurring about 3500-3000 BC, in southwest Asia or southern Transcaucasia (Armenia and Georgia). Cultivation of the domesticated grape spread to other parts of the Old World in pre-historic or early historic times.

Grapes followed European colonies around the world, coming to North America around the 1600s, and to Africa, South America and Australia. In North America it formed hybrids with species from Vitis genus native to that region; some of these were intentional hybrids created to combat Phylloxera, an insect pest which affected the European grapevine to a much greater extent than North American ones and in fact managed to devastate European wine production in a matter of years. Later North American rootstocks became widely used to graft V. vinifera cultivars so as to withstand the presence of phylloxera.

Use of grapes is known to date back to Neolithic times, following the discovery of 7,000 year-old wine storage jars in present-day northern Iran in 1996. Further evidence shows the Mesopotamians and Ancient Egyptians had vine plantations and wine-making skills. Greek philosophers praised the healing powers of grapes both whole and in the form of wine. Vitis vinifera cultivation and winemaking in China began during the Han Dynasty in the second century with the importation of the species from Ta-Yuan. However, wild vine "mountain grapes" like Vitis thunbergii were being used for wine making before that time.

CASTELLANO

Finally, it is time to go out and play. I have been working on my PhD proposal defense for the last month, and Jim has been getting reading for the art show season ( the circus). Last Saturday the moment came when I was finally trying to figure out what I would talk about during my hour long speech, when Jimmie made me go out and see the firework show put on by the Boardwalk. This year marks the 85th anniversary of one of the greatest wooden roller coasters in the country, the Giant Dipper.

The last celebration that I went to at the boardwalk was for another celebration of the Giant Dipper, I believe they were celebrating the 80th anniversary. But on that day you could ride the Big Dipper for free. So of course, I skipped work with a few of my closest girlfriends and we rode all day only to end up with bruises all along our sides the next day... but they were well worth it.

Luckily, I need not have any battle scares from this year's activities, only the successful completion of another milestone in my life.

A view of Yosemite's Half Dome and Glacier Points famous Overhanging Rock on the right side of the image. There is also a great view of Clouds Rest just left of Half Dome.

Can you imagine someone driving their old jalopy up on that little tiny

rock hanging out over a 1000+ foot cliff? Or a couple of women

up dancing on the edge? I've seen old post card pictures of people who did just that. Overhanging Rock is the tiny rock at the very top edge of the cliff to the right. It's large enough to hold a Ford Model A. The rock is currently closed off and marked by numerous danger signs but I still see people ignore them and walk out on it. One guy even took his kid who I estimate was about 8 years old out on it. I love heights but that's a bit crazy even for me.

One of the sights I wish they could bring back was the site of the fire

falls where they would have a huge bonfire at the top of Glacier Point with crowds of people singing camping songs. At the end of the show they'd push the still burning embers off the cliff to create a fire fall off the cliffs. I've seen images taken back in the early 60's when this was still done and would love to see what a modern camera would capture. I do of course understand why it was stopped and agree fully with the reasons. There is a strong desire to keep the park as natural as it can be. I do however wish they could bring back some of the Native American practices to the valley as I always saw their practices as part of nature. Originally the valley had many more meadows which were kept clear by the Native Americans for both

food and safety. Those meadows have begun to grow over with pine trees and will soon be gone completely. In short, it may get to the point where you won't be able to see Yosemite for the trees.

This is another image where I double processed the RAW file to bring in more of the detail in the lights and dark areas of the image. This is sort of a more controlled method of accomplishing what HDR tries to do. Again, the HDR effect, perhaps I just need more practice, caused too much noise in the dark areas and didn't bring the detail in the clouds out like I had wanted. I then topped it off with a Levels adjustment and moved the center controller to achieve what you see here.

Hope you like the image.

If you do, a note would be much appreciated.

White Lotus: Reworked for full sun - India's national flower

White Lotus Flower

The lotus flower appeared in legends originating from ancient Egypt. It played an important part in ancient Egyptian religion. The pure white lotus flower, the only plant to fruit and flower simultaneously, emerges from the depths of the muddy swamp. Growing from the mud at the bottom of ponds and streams, the exquisite Lotus flower rises above the water and is usually white or pink with 15 or more oval, spreading petals, and a peculiar, flat seedcase at its center.

Sesen A Lotus Flower. This is a symbol of the sun, of creation and rebirth. Because at night the flower closes and sinks underwater, at dawn it rises and opens again. According to one creation myth it was a giant lotus which first rose out of the watery chaos at the beginning of time. From this giant lotus the sun itself rose on the first day. A symbol of Upper Egypt .The lotus flower played a prominent role in the version of the creation story that originated in Heliopolis. Before the universe came into being, there was an infinite ocean of inert water which constituted the primeval being named Nun. Out of Nun emerged a lotus flower, together with a single mound of dry land. The lotus blossoms opened, and out stepped the self-created sun god, Atum, as a child. A slightly different version of the creation story originated in Hermopolis. In that version, the sun god who formed himself from the chaos of Nun emerged from the lotus petals as Ra. The lotus is a flower which opens and closes each day. His history went on to say that the petals of the lotus blossom enfolded him when he returned to it each night.

The lotus flower has been featured extensively throughout the art of ancient Egypt. In various works of art, you may see it held in the hand of a god or human, serving as a border to outline a section of the artwork, unfolding to reveal various gods or humans, and many other depictions. The ancient Egyptians from the 4th dynasty greatly valued the sacred lotus, in religious ceremonies and funerals. The ancient Egyptians developed the art of counting to a high degree, but their system of numeration was very crude. For example, the number 1,000 was symbolized by a picture of a lotus flower, and the number 2,000 was symbolized by a picture of two lotus flowers growing out of a bush.

My dear friends, this is my last upload for 2012.

As I did in 2010 and 2011, it is time to take a look back.

This has been an extremely intense year, with great ups and downs.

Many things happened, some of which provided sheer joy, others extreme sorrow. Some were 'caused' by me, some weren't.

Anyway, all these events will be essential to my turning point in 2013.

When I take a look at the resolutions for my 2012, I am definitely happy about how this year actually went.

I was able, for the first time, to concentrate on monothematic projects; I joined some important contests and photographic meetings, receiving a really positive feedback; I attended the greatest number of exhibition I could imagine and I didn't give up training.

I also improved in architecture photography, and bought an Epson 3880 printer and start to experiment with it.

I couldn't set up a full 'printing system' because of the prohibitive costs associated to it; moreover I couldn't spend all the time I wanted with printing, but I will fix that in 2013.

As for #8, I took very little time with multiple lights setups, but I am approaching still life photography and will be experimenting with multiple lights and eventually get proficient with those during this next year.

Time to set out my resolutions for 2013!!! (as always, random order, limited to eight)

1) Keep improving myself: study, read, attend museums and exhibitions, listen to music (gotta celebrate Verdi and Wagner's 200th birthday!);

2) Make my agency, Glass Star Agency, up and running at full speed;

3) Approach Still Life and Portrait photography;

4) Keep up with training;

5) Become proficient with printing, framing and matting;

6) Meet some new people with similar interests - Travel;

7) Complete at least two NEW monothematic projects - Enter them in International Competitions;

8) Last but not least: decide about my future (already made some big improvements over last year, but still far away from my goals!)

I will work all myself into pursuing those, especially #2 (which will eventually help me solving #8).

Anyway, if you want to meet up, I will be in Rome with Michael Diblicek from the 3rd until the 8th of January.

Send me an email with your phone number, I'll be glad to call you back and schedule a meeting!

Hope your 2012 has been extremely good; wish you a fantastic 2013 full of joy, happiness and freedom.

Some self promotion: don't forget to take a look at My Facebook Page: Have a look and help me growing by sharing and liking it!

Cari Amici,

Ho partecipato a concorsi e ricevuto i primi importanti riconoscimenti.

Ho speso moltissime giornate in musei, mostre e luoghi magnifici, ho viaggiato quasi quanto avrei voluto e non ho abbandonato l'allenamento.

2) Avviare, promuovere e dedicarmi alla mia agenzia Glass Star Agency;

3) Affrontare la fotografia Still Life e di ritratto;

4) Continuare l'allenamento;

5) Perfezionarmi con la stampa, il montaggio e l'incorniciatura;

6) Incontrare nuove persone con gli stessi interessi - Viaggiare;

7) Portare a termine almeno DUE progetti monotematici - Partecipare ad altri concorsi internazionali;

Fonte do Mouro (Fontana del Moro) - Fountain of the Moor - At the southern end of Piazza Navona, in front of the brazilian embassy, we find the Fontana del Moro, designed by Giacomo della Porto and erected in 1575. The fountain has statues of four Tritons and the basin is made of special antique rose marble. In 1654, Bernini carved the central figure, a muscular Triton riding a dolphin, that resembles a "Moor". Thus, the fountain is called the Fountain of the Moor. During a restoration in 1874, the original sculptures were moved to the Villa Borghese and substitute copies were made and are still on the fountain.

Navona Square (Piazza Navona).

Following, a text, in english, from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Piazza Navona is a city square in Rome, Italy. It is built on the site of the Stadium of Domitian, built in first century AD, and follows the form of the open space of the stadium.[1] The ancient Romans came there to watch the agones ("games"), and hence it was known as 'Circus Agonalis' (competition arena). It is believed that over time the name changed to 'in agone' to 'navone' and eventually to 'navona'.

Defined as a public space in the last years of 15th century, when the city market was transferred to it from the Campidoglio, the Piazza Navona is a significant example of Baroque Roman architecture and art. It features sculptural and architectural creations: in the center stands the famous Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi or Fountain of the Four Rivers (1651) by Gian Lorenzo Bernini; the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone by Francesco Borromini and Girolamo Rainaldi; and the Pamphilj palace also by Rainaldi and which features the gallery frescoed by Pietro da Cortona.

The Piazza Navona has two additional fountains: at the southern end is the Fontana del Moro with a basin and four Tritons sculpted by Giacomo della Porta (1575) to which, in 1673, Bernini added a statue of a Moor, or African, wrestling with a dolphin, and at the northern end is the Fountain of Neptune (1574) created by Giacomo della Porta. The statue of Neptune in the northern fountain, the work of Antonio Della Bitta, was added in 1878 to make that fountain more symmetrical with La Fontana del Moro in the south.

At the southwest end of the piazza is the ancient 'speaking' statue of Pasquino. Erected in 1501, Romans could leave lampoons or derogatory social commentary attached to the statue.

During its history, the piazza has hosted theatrical events and other ephemeral activities. From 1652 until 1866, when the festival was suppressed, it was flooded on every Saturday and Sunday in August in elaborate celebrations of the Pamphilj family. The pavement level was raised in the 19th century and the market was moved again in 1869 to the nearby Campo de' Fiori. A Christmas market is held in the piazza.

Other monuments on the Piazza Navona are:

Stabilimenti Spagnoli

Palazzo de Cupis

Palazzo Torres Massimo Lancellotti

Church of Nostra Signora del Sacro Cuore

Palazzo Braschi (Museo di Roma)

Sant'Agnese in Agone

Literature and films

The piazza is featured in Dan Brown's 2000 thriller Angels and Demons, in which the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi "The Fountain of the four rivers"(the Danube, the Gange, the Nile and the River Plate) is listed as one of the Altars of Science. During June 2008, Ron Howard directed several scenes of the film adaptation of Angels and Demons on the southern section of the Piazza Navona, featuring Tom Hanks.

The piazza is featured in several scenes of director Mike Nichols' 1970 adaptation of Joseph Heller's novel, Catch-22.

The Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi was used in the 1990 film Coins in the Fountain. The characters threw coins into the fountain as they made wishes. The Trevi Fountain was used in the 1954 version of the film.

Fonte do Mouro.

Stabilimenti Spagnoli

Palazzo de Cupis

Palazzo Torres Massimo Lancellotti

Church of Nostra Signora del Sacro Cuore

Rising nearly 5,000 feet above Yosemite Valley and 8,800 feet above sea level, Half Dome is a Yosemite icon and a great challenge to many hikers. Despite an 1865 report declaring that it was "perfectly inaccessible, being probably the only one of the prominent points about the Yosemite which never has been, and never will be, trodden by human foot," George Anderson reached the summit in 1875, in the process laying the predecessor to today's cable route.

Today, thousands of people reach the summit. For most, it is an exciting, arduous hike; for a few, it becomes more of an adventure than they wanted. Indeed, park rangers assist hundreds of people on the Half Dome trail every summer. Most of these emergencies could have been prevented... read on to learn how.

Much of the hike to Half Dome is an adventure into Wilderness, and, while there is nothing you can do to guarantee your safety, below you will find some tips to reduce your risk and have a safer, more enjoyable hike.

Photochange Day #263: Camera

Dad had few beautiful cameras!! We were not allowed to touch!! I still remember the clicks, the rewinding sounds and how we had to stay still for him to focus and him saying "I need your nose" for profile portrait, or "without moving raise your index" for full face individual or family portraits!! When he realized how poor quality prints I had with my automatics/instamatics he gave me his Kodak Retina III C (the lower from the two)!!! The Argus stayed with my brother after dad passed 20 years ago!!!

Last year my brother said you can have the Argus if you like you're crazier than I am about photography and cameras!!!

Today these two cameras, in their original cases, the way dad had them set and all are showcased in place of honor in my wall unit. Pull them out little while ago, and memories rushed into my mind. It took me few hours to decide should I take a shot? should I post? Here they are a little piece of my past with today's photochallenge assignment.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting!!

Your can still comment on my previous if you like!!

I really thought every photo would end up as a disaster, I'm thankful they did not.

I tried playing with the lighting using a lamp.

I had this feeling I would not be able to come up with a proper photo and end up uploading a crappy one, I hope this isnt crappy, I tried playing with different tones, I hope they look ok on your computer because as usual, I'm having colour problems, it looks pretty fine on my laptop so I hope it looks fine on your screen! :)

Its over. I'm done. It's been a year.

This is probably one of the weirdest feelings ever. Everyone's initial reaction is CONGRATS!! ARE YOU HAPPY!? but..not that much. If you asked me a few weeks ago i would have said YES IM SO GLAD TO BE DONE! but now, especially these last few days knowing its over makes me sad. I feel like i wont be motivated anymore, and wont improve. It's like a friend is leaving. This friend annoyed me, but for good reason. But in some ways i'm very relieved to be finished. 365 can be a burden, and I often neglected it. One of my biggest regrets was wasting so much of my 365 on skipping shots/cheating because I was too lazy. If I were to do it again, I would have tried to push myself harder. But overall, I think it was a great thing for me to do. I learned everything I know about photography, and I basically started taking photography seriously a year ago, and SO much has changed.

-I am the president/creator of the photography club at school

-I am the photographer for my school's newspaper

-I went from my moms old camera that used floppy disks, to a mediocre point and shoot, to a dslr.

-I realized I much prefer using film cameras, and next week I start developing my own film

-I turned 15 and got my permit...I get my license in 1 month

-I met my neighbor Brooke...shes moving in with me this month

-I went to Paris, New York, and a few other places

-I lost many friends, but more importantly I gained so many more friends

-I met so many amazing people here on flickr, there is so much talent out there its unbelieved. The amount these kids (many younger then me) inspire me is unbelievable.

-I changed as a person, I was reborn.

I'm almost done here, and if you read through this whole thing then I love you. I may not be the most popular person here, in fact I am very unpopular on flickr. I dont get 100 comments and favorites, but thats okay because my photographs are for me. There my emotion, and i'd rather be known by few for the real me then known by many, and be the fake Lee.Basically, I just wanted to say that this is not the end of my photography. Thats what the meaning of this photo is, i'm saying that although my 365 is over, my photography life is only just beginning.

The common death adder (Acanthophis antarcticus) is a species of death adder native to Australia. It is one of the most venomous land snakes in Australia and globally. While it remains widespread (unlike related species), it is facing increased threat from the ongoing Australian cane toad invasion.[citation needed]

The common death adder has a broad flattened, triangular head and a thick body with bands of red, brown and black with a grey, cream or pink belly. It can reach a maximum body length of 70–100 centimetres (2.3–3.3 ft). Death adders possess the longest fangs of any Australian snake. Unlike the common or European adder (Vipera berus), the common death adder is a member of the Elapidae family, rather than the Viperidae family of snakes, which are not found in Australia.[2]

Distribution and habitat[edit]

The common death adder occurs over much of eastern and coastal southern Australia – Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. It is more scarce in the Northern Territory, Western Australia and the west parts of South Australia.[2] It is also native to Papua New Guinea.[1]

Common death adders are found in forests, woodlands, grasslands and heaths of the eastern coast of Australia. The death adder is a master of camouflage, due to its band stripes, hiding beneath loose leaf litter and debris in woodland, shrubland and grassland.[2]

Diet[edit]

Common death adders eat small mammals and birds as a primary diet. Unlike other snakes, the common death adder lies in wait for its prey (often for many days) until a meal passes. It covers itself with leaves—making itself inconspicuous—and lies coiled in ambush, twitching its grub-like tail close to its head as a lure. When an animal approaches to investigate the movement, the death adder quickly strikes, injecting its venom and then waits for the victim to die before eating it. The death adder is not aggressive and less of a threat to humans.[2]

Reproduction[edit]

Unlike most snakes, death adders produce litters of live young. In the late summer, a female death adder will produce a litter of live babies, approximately 3–20, however over 30 young have been recorded in a single litter.[2]

Baixada de La Seu - Manresa, Barcelona (Spain).

ENGLISH

Manresa is the capital of the Bages comarca (county), located in the geographic centre of Catalonia, Spain, and crossed by the river Cardener. It is an industrial area with textile, metallurgical, and glass industries. Saint Ignatius of Loyola stopped to pray in the town on his way back from Montserrat in 1522. As such, the town is a place of pilgrimage for Catholics.

It is believed the comarcal name "Bages" comes from a corruption of the Latin "Bacchus" due to the extensive production of wine in the area. The wine was grown mainly in terraced vineyards, and many of these old terraces can be seen today. Wine ceased to be the main product of the area as a consequence of phylloxera, but is still a very important part of the Manresa/Bages economy.

During the Napoleonic invasion, the volunteer troops of Manresa (sometent in Catalan) defeated the French troops in the Bruch Pass (June 1808), but the retreating French burned and demolished much of the town. After the expulsion of Napoleon's troops, Manresans rebuilt the town using the rubble. This is the reason for the strange "jerry-built" look of the city.

The February 21 of every year is celebrated the "Festa de la Llum", that recalls the Miracle of the Light, a legend of the manresan tradition that explains how a mysterious light originating from Montserrat crossed the stained-glass windows of the old church of the Carmen the February 21 of 1345, causing that ended the excommunication of the city ordered by the bishop of Vic because of the passage of the Sèquia (channel) of Manresa by territories of the bishopric. The channel canalized the water of the Llobregat from Balsareny to Manresa and, with its construction, it was ended the water shortage that the town suffered.

The celebration coindiced with the "Fira de l'Aixada", a market granted to Manresa in 1683 by king Carlos II as prize and recognition of the commercial activity and the manresan influence in the agriculture of the region.

CASTELLANO

Explore

Night, the beloved. Night, when words fade and things come alive.

When the destructive analysis of day is done, and all that is truly important becomes whole and sound again.

When man reassembles his fragmentary self and grows with the calm of a tree.

(Antoine de Saint Exupéry)

Not much to add to this, except maybe, why Saint Exupéry TODAY (tonight) and here!?!

EVERYBODY must know the book LE PETIT PRINCE... if you don't; let me know and I'll organise the library bus to bring you a copy!!!

I have read and re-read this little booklet in German, French, English and most likely even in Italian - it's easy to understand and it contains 'stuff' to re-think for ages.... it's subtly bringing facts of life to the point and it is so lovingly written that you can't hold anything against the writer - even if you sometimes might want to! It is - in short - probably the most lovable book anybody can find.

After having bought copies of a very beautiful CD, read by Will Quadflieg (in German) for my nearly blind mother, my little sister and the children of my bros-in-law, I got a copy of my gift sent back to me by little sis..... and after a very long time I have inserted it in the car CD player, where I listen to it on my way to .... somewhere! It made me aware once again how absolutely wonderful this aviator and writer is expressing himself in his work.

These four-leaf-clovers are my latest pride and joy. The make lovely red flowers and if you care to stroll down in the comments, you'll find more close-up shots of those little darlings. I wish all of you who still live through Thursday, A HAPPY GORGEOUS GREEN THURSDAY and to the rest of us a BEAUTIFUL GREEN FRIDAY!

For the shutter sisters: Hello..... (sunshine, morning, night, happiness, smiles!)

Good night, little princesses, little princes - sleep tight!

Shah Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in the city of Isfahan, Central Persia (now Iran). It was built in 16th Century durin Safavid Dynasty, more specifically Shah Abbas the Great. This was the last time Persia was a glorious kingdom, being equal to its European counterparts.

This is the main entrance of the mosque. The door is made of wood and metal plates.

This was shot around 1999-2000, with my very first SLR, a Russian-made Zenit, on an 35mm ISO 100 color film.

__________________________________________________________________

For 500 years, this place was part of a mountain range. Vegetation hid the volcano. People and houses moved in. Not just houses, but -- homes as well. The communities became municipalities, and cities. Food and water was everywhere. Unknown to all the people, this place is all part of a large stratovolcano. And in 1991, after almost five centuries of inactivity, it erupted. One of the most violent recorded volcanic eruptions -- and it was tragic.

Last time I visited this place was 7 years ago, obviously I was 7 years younger, probably 7 kilos lighter as well. But probably I was stronger and faster then. Before there were no 4x4 vechicles that I'm on now. We have to walk the whole -- approx. 20 kilometer stretch of lahar, and streams, and rocks. And a little steep part nearing the crater. Now that hike is cut to two hours with the 4-wheel drive vehicles that ply the route. Funny how times change. Last time I was here, it was almost cloudless, it was the peak of summer. Now, I have to be quick to take nice shots during instances when the blue skies show up. Last time I was carrying almost 20kg of supplies on my back, tent, and water. And some added weight of laundry -- formal clothes which I have to bring since the trip was just a continuation of my trip accompanying my brother when he applied for law school at metro manila. That was so long ago. Before, this mountainside was barren, now I can see green all over them -- and my brother is already a lawyer for three years now.

All I can recall, was that previously, I came here, with some of my worst enemies -- some traitors who were my friends before. Its long ago. I thought I'd forget them. I thought till I saw these familiar canyons again. Look now, when I say traitors, they had been my friends. How can they be traitors if they're you're enemies at the very start. Just so, in case you ask.

But anyway, good thing these blue skies show up occasionally. Its good for the soul. And good for the trail. This is about 15 kilometers east of the Mt. Pinatubo crater lake.

when i was a kid, my parents took my brother and i out to Detroit several times, where my father grew up, to visit with family.

i remember staying at my Uncle Henrys house and seeing fireflies for the first time. my brother and I being taken fishing at the lake by Henry. i only recall bits and pieces, but they wonderful trips, due in large part to how wonderful Henry, his wife and sons were.

I knew that Henry had grown up with my father in the same house but i didn't fully understand the reasons why until i was an adult.

Henry grew up in a small town in Poland with his father, mother, and brother, as well as a large extended family. once a week, his father would send young Henry on a walk down to the post office with a letter for his sister who lived in the U.S.

Shortly after the Nazi invasion in 1942, his father and brother attempted to flee to a non-German occupied part of Poland, but never made it. they were exterminated.

Henry and his mother moved into a small apartment with his grandparents and several aunts and uncles. the living conditions, though, were horrible. emaciated, lice ridden and many contracted Typhoid. the fear palpable as the Nazi soldiers roamed the streets killing people or torturing them indiscriminately.

Henry recalled: "But the soldiers would come at least once a week and they started increasingly to kill people sometimes at the flimsiest excuse, like if you were running or if they started beating you and they would just do it until they killed you."

soon, Henry's mother was taken to Treblinka Extermination Camp and was killed there upon arrival.

Henry was sent to the first of several concentration and extermination camps, for forced labor, ending up, eventually at Auschwitz-Birkenau.

During his time at the camps, and on the Death Marches he was forced to participate in, he witnessed unimaginable atrocities, the extermination of thousands of other Jews as well as being nearly beaten to death several times himself.

a few years later, the war ended and Henry was one of those liberated at Auschwitz.

he needed to be "sponsored" in order to leave Germany and come to the United States, meaning a family member had to be willing to take him in.

He had no family left in Poland, none had survived. but he remembered his many walks down to the post office, carrying the letter from his dad to be sent to Michigan. without realizing it at the time, he had memorized his aunts address. Henry arrived in Detroit shortly after.

finally Henry was allowed to leave Germany and moved into my dad's family's home. He was in his late teens when he arrived and my dad, younger by several years, had a new big "brother". Henry lived there for the next several years as he went to college and then medical school. today, Henry is one of the nation's leading Psychoanalysts and has spent his life helping other Holocaust survivors.

ENGLISH

The town of Torà is located at the foot of the mountain range of the Aguda, between the Llobregós river and the watercourse of Llanera. The Llobregós goes from east to the west, forming a spit that stretches slightly perpendicular in the northern limit of the Segarra, with landscaping, topographic, geologic and gastronomical characteristics different from the rest of the region.

Throughout the line that forms this river, during 10th century, it existed the border between the Christian counties and the Islamic world. To the north, the Christians; to the south, the Saracens. Also it distinguishes clearly two landscapes; in the part of above, forests and isolated country houses; in the part of down, where it is based most of the present population, it extend the smooth cerealistic undulations of the Segarra.

The town of Torà is the most important and dynamic locality of these contours fruit of its industrial growth, thing that has not made him lose the aspect eminently agriculturist and cattle farmer of typical town of the Segarra. Torà has its origin at medieval time, the narrow alleys of the old district, places setting of porches, quiet and calm, they are a clear testimony.

The old Jewish quarter of Torà is located in what is now Carrer Nou, in the very centre of the old part of the village. Access to this area is through two portals. One is located in the Plaça de l’Església and the Portal Nou provides entry from the Plaça del Pati. This area is surrounded by small squares, narrow streets and very steep alleys that help recreate the atmosphere of the medieval village.

Close by, we find the old bakery, which now houses the bread museum. The first businesses of Torà were established in its Jewish quarter We know this from the entrances to some of the houses that still maintain the specific typology of the medieval Jewish shops, with the entrance on the left and the counter on the right of the facade for serving clients from inside the shop.

The lintels of many houses also serve as valuable material witnesses to the presence of the Jewish population. Some houses still bear the engraved symbol of Christ with the date and name of the owner. According to some historians, this identified Jews who had converted to Christianity.

A number of wealthy families lived in the Jewish quarter of the village, including the Baron of Morrocurt, and the Mujal and Aldabó families. The donations of the latter served to set up the wheat shop or “poor people’s shop” and the village Hospital.

CASTELLANO

Chinese New Year's Eve is known as Chúxī (除夕). Chu literally means "change" and xi means "Eve".

Celebrated in areas with large populations of ethnic Chinese, Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had a strong influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbours, as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction. These include Koreans, Mongolians, Nepalese, Bhutanese, Vietnamese, and formerly the Japanese before 1873. In Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and other countries with significant Chinese populations, Chinese New Year is also celebrated, largely by overseas Chinese, but it is not part of the traditional culture of these countries. In Canada, although Chinese New Year is not an official holiday, many ethnic Chinese hold large celebrations and Canada Post issues New Year's themed stamps in domestic and international rates.

"H is for HITMAN"

So AriesEffects finished his 365, and somewhere around his 250th photo

i decided i would tribute him by doing my own set of Agent 47 photos.

if you havent seen his work OR his awesome Series

... well, you are just really missing out.

Aside from being a really funny, creative guy... he has a style

all his own. I cant even figure out how he gets his images to look

the way they do, but i always know from the thumbnail, its his.

Go congratulate him,and check out his stream.

OR ELSE.

For TOTW " Alter Ego"

because the hitman games have been one of my favorites,

and not just because we both sport the same hairstyle.

aside from being addictive and awesome, the game really

makes you think thru how to progress thru it.

Ontop of that it has consistently one of the best soundtracks

in any games, thanks to Jesper KId.

He has gone on to do the scores for many games,

most notably Assassins creed I and II. me and my brother

have collected almost all of his soundtracks,he kicks ass.

big thanks to my brother for helping me with this photoshoot,

he saved me alot of time in setting up the frame.

I have wanted to do a shoot like this for awhile, and finally

got to use my spiffy suit again in my 365.

(the red tie and the pistols were bought JUST for this tribute. :P)

CÍEN'S MESSAGE TO SUN:

Yey blondy, whassap!! ^^

Wow, you told so many things :D I'll try to reply at everything, hope I don't forget anything important. ò_ó Let's go!

Haha, yeah well, I heard that out of Spain, Football Club Barcelona had also several supporters, but I didn't imagine you'd find them at your first day! There's soon a derby Barcelona vs Madrid. I'm pretty sure Yaz won't miss that XD

Anyway... that was not an important thing...

A very interesting thing is what you tell me about the country. I really envy you and regret not having insisted to go with you as well to Ireland. It all seems so peaceful, quiet and full of beauty... like that tunnel of branches you mentioned. I'm loving all your photos, really.

I'm also loving when you stop to make photos to any apparently insignificant detail, like that couple of horses, or the duck taking off (by the way, that was awesome! You are so skilled!!)... You know, that may seem a nonsense to do that, but it means you are enjoying everything, and you share it with me :)

About Sheryl and Yaz, well you know them... they do weird things once in a while. For me it's also hard to understand them when they talk, it's like they are speaking a different language... anyway, I also miss them... :) it was nice to see them at photos too ;) You are very good a photograph, really, I'm very impressed :D

I'll love you help me assembling a book with all of my recent designs! We can mix your skills and mine to make a good job :D It was great to read that, you had a magnificent idea!! it's like a present for me to have your help! Thanks!!

Furthermore, I was quite stuck at my inspiration and my drawings didn't flow, but since you are explaining me your adventures I can't stop doodling at all times!! If you love my drawings like you said, you'll see tones when you come back! When I finish this reply I'll take a piece of paper and draw a urban version of your green branches highway tunnel with bended buildings over the street XP

Yeah well, I know, Lenn is Lenn after all. With his personality he knows lots of people, but he ain't got many friends... I know he has to change, but it's a long process. Anyway... yeah, Take is a good guy. I'll give him a chance and spend more time with him. He already bought the tickets online. We are going tomorrow to the theater definitely. I'll tell you how was the film ;)

And finally, yeah, I know you're the only blond in the house. You know my best is drawing, not speaking... change that “my favorite blond” by just “my favorite” #^_^#

I really miss you, come back in one piece! And watch out that weather, don't catch a cold! :)

Cee ya!

MENSAJE DE CÍEN PARA SUN:

Hey rubilla, que passa!! ^^
