Phil Spitalny (November 7, 1890, Tetiev, Ukraine (territory of Russian Empire) – October 11, 1970, Miami Beach, Florida) was a musician, music critic, composer and bandleader heard often on radio during the 1930s and 1940s. He rose to fame after he brought together an orchestra with only female musicians, a novelty at the time.
On radio, Spitalny was introduced as Phil Spitalny and His All-Girl Orchestra featuring Evelyn and her Magic Violin. The magic violinist was Evelyn Kaye Klein, who used the professional name, Evelyn Silverstone. She helped Spitalny find the women he needed to assemble his all-female orchestra. Together, they auditioned more than 1000 musicians in New York, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit and Pittsburgh.
Spitalny's 22-piece band was known as the Hour of Charm Orchestra during the time it appeared on the radio program, The Hour of Charm, hosted by Arlene Francis. The program aired in various timeslots on CBS and NBC from 1934 to 1948.
Evelyn Kaye Klein and Spitalny married in June 1946.

When walking along Ottawa's Sussex Drive you are pretty much guaranteed a gathering outside the House of Barons Barber Shop www.houseofbarons.ca be it barbers or clients, after all it is a very busy spot.
Meet Phil, he had just stepped out of House of Barons and was looking particularly well groomed. He was chatting to one of the barbers, Shane (Stranger 195/200) who recognized me.
In spite of having to get on his way Phil agreed to participate in my Human Family Project.
Phil is from Gatineau Quebec (just across the Ottawa River), he works as a Massage Therapist, he specializes in working with athletes and is actually the Massage Therapist for Canada's Male Volleyball Team. A true sports enthusiast Phil plays hockey in the winter and baseball in the summer, although it is recreational he tells me things can get pretty competitive. Phil has also worked part time in a sports shop for 11 years. Phil had been very generous with his time so I gave him a contact card and he headed off.
Thank you Phil is was a pleasure meeting you.
This is portrait #86 in my Human Family Project.

I have been curating images from this perspective for many mornings of the past year. Many times, it is the first shot of the day, test shots really. The view does not change much, but the seasons change and along with it, the footwear.
I will start an album here as I post these intermittently.
Enjoy!

A part of my youngest son will always identify with Philly Sports. He grew up in the South Jersey during years 4 and 5. He loves the Eagles and a soft spot for the Phillies.

I made a custom Agent Phil Coulson, and I think he looks nice, he fits perfectly with my other Avengers figures.

I went to Camp Orkila on Orcas Island last week with the 6th Grade class at my school (about 340 students). It was a fun trip, very wet at times but the kids had a great time!
This is a black tailed deer that the camp staff have named Phil, he is a piebald deer which is a genetic variation that only occurs in about 1% of deer. The deer on this island, and specifically around the camp are a very isolated population that experiences a lot of inbreeding which can lead to higher cases of this genetic variation.
