Phil was originally a swarthy looking foreign guy but I guess that old saying is true, you are what you eat.
Explorer Phil, atop one of the beautiful art-deco huts on the roof of the Texas & Pacific Warehouse, Fort Worth, Texas. There's a total of ten of these on the roof, five along each side, with the ones at the four corners (like this one) being slightly more ornate.
To answer your question...no, there's no ladder or stairs up to the roof of this little rooftop structure; Phil climbed to the top of the hut in about 30 seconds, using the window gaps in the little 5-foot high door, to the top of the door, to the lower concrete ledge, up behind the ornate spires above the door, and on to the summit.
Ahh...to be young again! :-)
Phil and I both noted the amazing detail in these cool little structures, and the fact that these were something that nobody ever saw, other than a few T&P employees over the years. The blue areas are sections of small inlaid tile...where on earth would you find that kind of detail these days in a place where no one will see it? You may note by examining this picture that this roof-facing side of the hut pretty much mirrors the outside, which is integrated into the rest of the design of the building.
Night, no moon but a ton of ambient light, and xenon flashlight.
Taken when I was there in March 1999. I shot it using my ex-wife's camera, a Canon Sure-Shot Owl and Kodak Gold 100 film.
"Hey look! It's Phil!" a young boy eagerly exclaimed at Brickworld last year. It was Phil's first LEGO show appearance, and I didn't base Phil off of any character, and I never did found out how that boy knew Phil.
