Phil Read est né le 1er janvier 1939 à Luton (GB).
Dans sa carrière, il a remporté 52 victoires en GP (10 en 125, 27 en 250, 4 en 350 et 11 en 500).
Il fut Champion du Monde 125 en 1968, 250 en 1964, 1965, 1968 et 1971 et 500 en 1973 et 1974.
Paradoxalement, son palmarès ne compte que cinq poles et un meilleur tour en course !
Il remporta également 8 TT, son premier en 1961 (Junior TT) et son dernier en 1977 (Senior TT) où il remporta à cette occasion le "titre mondial" Formula 1 TT.
Il courut son premier GP lors du Junior TT 350 en 1961 (victoire à la clé !) et se retira du Continental Circus lors du GP des Nations 1976 disputé sur le circuit du Mugello. Il signa sa dernière victoire lors du GP de Tchécoslovaquie 1975 en 500 cm3, sur MV-Agusta.
Il se retira définitivement des courses internationales à l'issue du TT 1982 à l'âge de 43 ans. Ce qui ne l'empêche pas d'animer furieusement les courses d'anciennes aujourd'hui encore...
Enfin et pour l'anecdote, il fut le dernier à remporter un Championnat du Monde en GP avec un moteur 4-temps précédant ainsi en cela... Valentino Rossi !

I remember this day. It was cold. A hellicopter flew us and the trees in.
This was the end of the day. Phil sits in a tree box, sipping the last of a thermos of coffee as we waited.
We had been worried that day the Hellicopter may not return, the weather was thick and windy. Finally in a lull it arrived.
Phil was a wood and stone carver.
Treeplanting payed his bills, art was his passion. Phil lives in a smaller town and
spends all his time carving now.
I see his work in the galleries in the city selling for more than I could afford. He no longer needs to suplement with labour.
This is actually two shots stitched together. In one, the chair was slightly blurred (it was dark and I did not have my tripod). The sharper shot cut off the skylight. I did not alter any colors.
Just a fun shoot before work this morning!
I think she looks really cute in the red hat so I got her to wear it! Reluctant at first, but she totally caved ;)
Meanwhile, I'm running late for an appointment! Then I gotta be at work shortly after that.

It's snowing again in Montreal, seems to ever stop. I almost forget if it snowed this much back home...
I came up with the idea of a 'Saturday with...' themed engagement session with Phil and Sara. I am so fortunate that they went with the idea!
We first went to the farmers market, headed to the Starbucks where they usually hang out, and then the park where they like to throw frisbee.

Former World Champion Phil Read drives his Paton bike through the corners of the Circuit of Ospedaletti (Liguria - Italy). It seems an old photo, but it was taken in 2012, during the Historic Sanremo Gran Prix, held every two years in the small italian city of Ospedaletti. Next event is in September 2014.

I was in Horsham briefly this afternoon and noticed someone with a guitar and amp and a cool hat. I went up and introduced myself to Phil.
He was happy to take part in my project once I'd confirmed that I wasn't from the West Sussex County Times.
Phil makes his own solar-powered guitar amps. He was trying to get his to work but it was misbehaving ( he had dropped it earlier).
We talked about our favourite guitar players, we both chose 'Little Wing' as our favourite Jimi Hendrix song.
It was a sunny day, but overcast. I used my 50 mm lens and Phil was very easy to photograph.

One of the guys from my floor, phil. Cool guy, hes a dj on the local radio station here (which is run by the by the university).
Another gorgeous day it was for a 'bridge run'! I was eagerly training for a half-marathon in Sept. but missed the online sign-up date! =( Hopefully, I can stay motivated and injury-free for another one in Nov.
