Cleaning up my studio space and I noticed that the maestro phaser I have has a mic-stand mount on the bottom. Awesome.

Yay! Duane has been telling me, for about a week, that we have a female, balck-phase Gray Squirrel visiting the deck, but this morning, at about 7:15 a.m., was my first opportunity to see her. It's a gray day in the 30's & flurrying again, so the animals are active. In fact, I was surprised, at 6:15, to see a bunny eating out of one of the bowls on the deck!!! I'm afraid food sources are few & far between, this time of year. So, now I should supply pellets & greens at night?! Anyway, back to the squirrel. We, usually, only have Gray Squirrels, sometimes as many as 9 on the deck at a time. Once in a while, we see a red or black one--fun, since they're unusual. The black are not a different kind of squirrel--just a color varient of the gray--seen, usually, in the northeast U.S. Mine was seen on February 19, 2011 in Columbia County, New York, USA. In the past, I saw them, frequently, in lower Westchester County, New York--approximately 1 hour's drive norht of New York City. This little lady was having a bit of a hard time with the resident grays chasing her. At one point, she stopped just under the open bathroom window. I dropped a peanut in front of her. She, immediately, picked it up, ran off the deck & into a nearby tree, where she rewarded my gift by posing for this photo! Please note that we are getting some bud color on the maple branches; Spring is on the way! Here's more information on Black-Phase Gray Squirrels:

A plinthic horizon contains a significant amount of plinthite. If the horizon constitutes a "continuous phase", zones that roots can enter are more than 10cm apart and plinthite makes up 50 percent or more of the volume of the horizon (proposed). Plinthite (Gr. plinthos, brick) is an iron-rich, humus-poor mixture of clay with quartz and other highly weathered minerals. It commonly occurs as reddish redox concentrations in a layer that has a polygonal (irregular), platy (lenticular), or reticulate (blocky) pattern.

Plinthite irreversibly hardens upon exposure to repeated wetting and drying, especially if exposed to heat from the sun. Other morphologically similar iron-rich materials that do not progressively harden upon repeated wetting and drying are not considered plinthite. The horizon in which plinthite occurs commonly has 2.5 percent (by mass) or more citrate dithionite extractable iron in the fine-earth fraction and a ratio between acid oxalate extractable Fe and citrate-dithionite extractable Fe of less than 0.10.

Soils that classify as Plinthudults have one or more horizons within 150 cm of the mineral soil surface in which plinthite either forms a continuous phase or constitutes one-half or more of the volume.

Almost a nice view. Almost.

Initial flood-fill propagation from the center.

Reversed phase chromatography mechanism. The hydrophobic solute (nonpolar solute) binds to the surface of the hydrophobic (nonpolar) C-18 chain. A more polar mobile phase is used for solute elution to occur. The polarity of the mobile phase is decreased by changing its composition as elution progresses (gradient elution) to speed up the process.

I probably shouldn’t have bought this, but I kept wondering if a tube phaser wouldn’t be hipper than the Fender harmonic tremolo for a Jimi-box. Now if my right hand just worked.

Willie Nelson

I think this was my first exposure to the music of Willie Nelson My roomie was a campus radio DJ and they got a lot of free albums they never wanted to play.

"On Phases And Stages, Nelson describes a separation, first from the woman's point of view (side one), then from the man's (side two). Both are true to the milieu in which Nelson works: The woman runs away, finds another, but still wonders; the man loses himself in self-pity and then assumes the facade of honky-tonk bravado. Nelson can make a banal line like "ironing and crying, crying and ironing" say much more than it does on the surface. He seems to understand an unloved woman better than any dozen articles from Ms.: "If guilt is the question/Then truth is the answer/I've been lyin' to me all along." His deceptively simple lyrics fit whole chapters into single lines: "Sister's comin' home/Momma's gonna let her sleep the whole day long/Mirror's gonna tell her/Just how long she's been gone." And when "sister" goes back to the corner beer joint, "her jeans fit a little bit tighter than they did before."

The fact that Nelson can fashion a believable scenario with such sparseness is a tribute to his ability to turn experience into good music. Phases And Stages, his best work to date, now seems to call out for the filmmaker who can turn good music into good cinema."
