As part of the first phase of a larger effort to create a management plan for Canada Geese in Ithaca, the City, in collaboration with NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and Cornell University, banded about 475 geese in Stewart Park on June 20, 2016. Collaring and color-banding the geese will allow DEC and Cornell staff to monitor their movements throughout the City, and aid the City's efforts to more accurately estimate the population size. This information, in turn, will be used to inform the creation of an effective, responsible, and ethical management plan. It will be helpful for people to report the yellow-collared geese if they show up in areas other than Stewart Park and the City Golf Course by emailing ithacageese@gmail.com. Photo: Paul Curtis
