A Bud's Life Series (#2)
Night-time sharpens,
heightens each sensation
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination
Silently the senses abandon their defenses ...
Slowly, gently night unfurls its splendour
Grasp it, sense it - tremulous and tender
Turn your face away
from the garish light of day,
turn your thoughts away
from cold, unfeeling light -
and listen to the music of the night ...
Close your eyes and surrender to your
darkest dreams!
Purge your thoughts of the life
you knew before!
Close your eyes,
let your spirit start to soar!
And you'll live
as you've never lived before ...
Softly, deftly,
music shall surround you ...
Feel it, hear it,
closing in around you ...
Open up your mind,
let your fantasies unwind,
in this darkness which
you know you cannot fight -
the darkness of the music of the night ...
Let your mind start a journey
through a strange new world!
Leave all thoughts
of the world you knew before!
Let your soul take you where you
long to be !
Only then can you belong to me ...
Floating, falling, sweet intoxication!
Touch me, trust me savour each sensation!
Let the dream begin,
let your darker side give in
to the power of the music that I write -
the power of the music of the night ...
You alone can make my song take flight -
help me make the music of the night . . .
- "Music of the Night", from Phantom of the Opera

This is looking North in Times Square up Seventh Avenue in New York City (NYC), the morning of the Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade. If you ever want to shoot Times Square mostly empty, then the early morning hours prior to the parade are perfect. Here you can see the utility crews removing the traffic lights and any other item that might catch the balloons.

The launch of Spell Cosmetics Autumn 2009 Collection
Colour this amazing is purely criminal...The Jewel Thief Collection, by Spell Cosmetics takes colour where it has never gone before! Revolutionary "de-dusted" pigments reduce falloff during the application process. Our propriety formulation has moisture retention qualities which helps create a smooth finish. The best part? They can be used wet or dry and it doesn't interfere with the consistancy of the pigments! Use wet to create a metallic finish, use dry for lustrous, indulgent colour!

Comissioned by Napoleon III and then overseen by Baron Haussmann, the Paris Opera as it was then called, was designed by Charles Garnier who at the time was an unknown thirty-five year old architect. Construction started in 1862 and ended in 1874 but the first opera wasn't held there until January 15, 1875.
During a performance, a part of the ceiling fell on an audience member which partially inspired Gaston Leroux's The Phantom of the Opera.
The tour guide told us that after all his efforts and the amazing success of the construction, Charles Garnier wasn't invited to the opening and had to purchase a ticket to see the opera himself.
Performances still take place here (while we were there they were lighting the stage for a ballet that afternoon) although the performances mostly consist of ballets. Most operas are conducted in the Opéra Bastille.

The book’s author, Gaston Leroux (1868-1927), was a French journalist and writer of detective fiction. Though this is his most famous novel, he also authored a popular series of “locked room” mysteries including The Mystery of the Yellow Room and The Perfume of the Lady in Black. But The Phantom of the Opera is, by far, his most influential novel and the basis of many film adaptations, beginning with Lon Chaney Sr. in 1925, as well as the basis of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, one of the most successful of all time.
Masquerade is a song from the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical The Phantom of the Opera. It is sung at the beginning of the second act where a masquerade ball is held at the Opera House. Several months have passed since the end of the first act and the cast and crew of the Opera House have heard nothing of the Phantom for that period of time, thus assuming that he had left them for good. The owners of the Opera, Andre and Firmin, are determined to celebrate this, as well as the "new chandelier" installed after the Phantom fell the last one.

You will be the happiest of women. And we will sing, all by ourselves, till we swoon away with delight. You are crying! You are afraid of me! And yet I am not really wicked. Love me and you shall see! All I wanted was to be loved for myself.”

The scale and comfort of the upper circle is far in excess of most upper circles, not too steep, and with just one safety rail at the very front. The Gallery is stepped back from this level and does not overhang at all, avoiding the claustrophobic effect of some theatres. Designed by C J Phipps and Romaine Walker in a French C18th style. This is one of the West End's finest theatres, wide with excellent sightlines and supremely elegant. Apart from a number of pillars, this is a near perfect theatre, which has been described as "the best planned theatre in London". Built as a replacement to earlier theatres on this site since 1705, the current theatre was designed by C J Phipps and opened in April 1897. It seats around 1,200 currently, slightly down on the 1,319 quoted in 1897. The building is grade 2* listed and in 1986 the record-breaking run of "The Phantom of the Opera" began. The name reverted to His Majesty's after the coronation of King Charles III in 2023, and it is part of LW Theatres Group.

The chandelier from the musical play "The Phantom of the Opera" that crashes to the floor during the play. Not the best picture because I had to sneak my little point & shot to take a quick picture. Your not allowed to take pictures in the theater.

The Phantom of The Opera’ is about a young singer who is charmed by a mysterious spectre who haunts the Paris Opera House. The Phantom teaches her to sing and on her opening night, takes her to his lair in the misty catacombs beneath the Opera House, where he declares his love for her — but she soon learns his terrible secret
His voice calls to her, nurturing her extraordinary talents from the shadows of the opera house where innocent chorus girl Christine Daae (EMMY ROSSUM) makes her home. Only ballet mistress Madame Giry (MIRANDA RICHARDSON) knows that Christine's mysterious "Angel of Music" is actually the Phantom (GERARD BUTLER), a disfigured musical genius who haunts the catacombs of the theatre, terrifying the ensemble of artists who live and work there.
When temperamental diva La Carlotta (MINNIE DRIVER) walks out in the middle of a dress rehearsal for the company's latest production, the theatre's eager new managers (SIMON CALLOW and CIARAN HINDS) have no choice but to thrust Christine into the spotlight.
Her mesmerizing opening night performance captivates both the audience and the Phantom, who devotes himself to casting his protégé as the opera's next star. But he is not the only powerful man to be awed by the young soprano, as Christine soon finds herself courted by the theatre's wealthy patron, the Vicompte Raoul de Chagny (PATRICK WILSON).
Though she is enthralled by her charismatic mentor, Christine is undeniably drawn to the dashing Raoul, enraging the Phantom and setting the stage for a dramatic crescendo in which soaring passions, fierce jealousies and obsessive love threaten to drive the fated lovers past the point of no return.
Based upon the novel Le Fantôme de l'Opéra by GASTON LEROUX.
