“Mines is a close-knit community, like a family. So everyone helps each other. Plus the weather here is very nice. I came here from Malaysia during my sophomore year, and learned I really like a small school because you get to know a lot of people more closely. When I started, it was quite hard because my English wasn’t very good. I was always studying in the computer commons, and I just randomly started talking to people there. I’m still learning, but my friends here always encourage me and tell me not to worry if I pronounce things incorrectly. Sometimes I mispronounce things and they might sound silly, but I don’t let that stop me.”

"From my work at the Mines Foundation as the student intern from the beginning of the school year, I'm naturally going to be involved in #idigmines week. Also from what I know from Rugby, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and other clubs I'm involved in, the donors help make it 10 times better. We have the money and the resources to do events that end up helping campus and us in general. That's why I want to help with #idigmines week.
A lot of people say, "Mines tuition is so expensive." But the way I look at it is that it's an investment. You invest in your education through your tuition and giving. And if everyone gives a little bit, it helps the whole community in magnitudes greater than what you thought you'd be able to on your own."

"My dad went to Mines. My parents met at Mines. And my brother who is a year older than me goes to school here, too.
WIth the market in the oil industry the way it is right now, it's hard to keep a positive attitude about school. But I know it's gonna be worth it for the ones who stick with it. Things go in cycles.
What keeps me going day to day is the community I've found with Red Rocks Church. It's a Denver church, and there's a group of people from Mines who go there. I'm also part of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as is my brother, and we've both found great friends through that."

Built in 1956, this Colonial Revival-style building was built to house the Marietta College Petroleum Engineering & Geology Program. The building is a noncontributing structure in the Marietta Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, and expanded to its present size in 2001.

You’ve probably seen in the field, something that looks kind of like a horse's head moving up and down, the part above ground…Inside the well, there is a structure like the one you see here — for the wells that have very low pressure. When there’s that’s not enough natural pressure to push the fluid out, we use the artificial lift."
