Texas A&M University (Texas A&M, TAMU, or A&M) is a coeducational public research university located in College Station, Texas, United States. The main campus is one of the largest in the United States, spanning 5,500 acres (22 km2), and includes the George Bush Presidential Library.
Approximately one-fifth of the student body lives on campus. Texas A&M has approximately 800 officially recognized student organizations. Many students also observe the traditions of Texas A&M University, which govern daily life as well as special occasions, including sports events. On July 1, 2012, the school joined the Southeastern Conference. A&M operates two branches: Texas A&M at Qatar and Texas A&M University at Galveston. Working with agencies such as the Texas AgriLife Research and Texas AgriLife Extension Service, Texas A&M has a direct presence in each of the 254 counties in Texas. The university offers degrees in over 150 courses of study through ten colleges and houses 18 research institutes. Homer was the owner, but he didn't live here... his foreman did, apparently until 1945... according to the park's sign. Seems to be pretty big for one person; Wikipedia says Homer Wilson lived "at the ranch" until he died in 1943.

Original Appearance:
Although Homer Wilson maintained Oak Canyon as his headquarters, he "erected at this location (Blue Creek) a secondary and very substantial ranch house..."! "This house was 24 x 60 feet with 16 x 60-foot screened porch on the south side of the house. The house proper consisted of 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, and a large living room near the middle of the north wall. There is a large fireplace in which the mantle is made by very artistic placement of long slabs of stone placed horizontally. Some of these slabs are up to 8 feet in length and placed in a colorful arrangement.
The double roof is supported separately by large poles. The ceiling is made of reeds in the pattern that has been used for centuries by the inhabitants of the river. The story goes that Mrs. Wilson wanted the reed ceiling with the adobe mud on top, to-which Mr. Wilson agreed. However, since such a roof would leak, he used a 2-inch concrete mixture in place of the adobe mud and above that a sheet metal roof, thus making the house leak-proof. This arrangement not only accomplished its purpose but in addition made the house much cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, as it created an air space between the metal roof and the ceiling. It was a very satisfactory means of insulation.
The interior walls carry little if any support for the roof, as this was done by sturdy poles set in cement and holding up the weight of the ceiling and roof. Practically all materials for the construction of the house came from the area. The stone, sand, and gravel came from Blue Creek Canyon, the timber from the Chisos Mountains, and the reed from the nearby Rio Grande. Thus the Blue Creek line camp ranch house may be said to be indigenous to the area. The floor of the house was made of well-selected flags while that of the porch was 'concrete.
In addition, to the house in the Blue Creek complex, a small 1-room house for living quarters for additional ranch help, a small storeroom, an outside barbeque fireplace, a cistern to catch and hold fresh rainwater, a circular corral with a snubbing post for the training of young horses, and a nearby dipping vat and chute. There was also a chemical outhouse, a small chicken house, and a combination rock and tin structure likely used for the storage of salt and other equipment and tools,
Access to the Blue Creek house was over a reasonably well-maintained dirt road which came up the valley from Oak Canyon along the flats between Burro Mesa and the Chisos Mountains and then over the ridge into Blue Creek Canyon.
Present Appearance: Of the structures described above, all but the chicken coop still remain* Except for the storeroom and toilet, which are in poor condition, all are "structually sound, but deteriorating in detail."

Homer Wilson was born in Del Rio, Texas, in 1892, studied mining and petroleum engineering at Missouri School of Mines, served in Europe during World War I, and returned to the Rio Grande country after the war.
In 1929 he purchased ranch land west of the Chisos Mountains, and ultimately expanded his holding to include 44 sections to operate this vast tract he established his home and headquarters at Oak Springs.
Later he moved part of his operations to Blue Creek. Wilson developed the ranch and raised his family-there during the years up to 1943 when he died suddenly. In 1942 he deeded the land to the State of Texas during-the early days of park land,-acquisition.
The family moved from the ranch by the agreed deadline of January 1,1945. As one of the largest ranches in the Big Bend area, the Wilson Ranch has local significance. Its structures along with the natural setting provide opportunities to interpret twentieth century ranch life for this area."

Farea Al-Muslimi, a Yemani alumnus of the Tomorrow’s Leaders Program 2013,a graduated from the American University of Beirut (AUB) with a degree in Public Policy. After his graduation, he followed his dream and established the Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies in Sanaa – Yemen , a think-tank that seeks to foster change through knowledge production in Yemen.
Farea was initially awarded a Tomorrow’s Leaders program scholarship at the American University of Beirut (AUB) to study petroleum engineering. However, after an intensive mentorship with the Tomorrow’s Leaders coordinator he shifted his interest to the domain of political analysis and public policy, which paved the way to his current achievements. He graduated with a degree in Public Policy as
Farea achieved great success in 2016 when United Nations Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon appointed him to the Advisory Group of Experts for the Progress Study on Youth, Peace, and Security, a study which was mandated by UN Security Council resolution 2250 to examine the positive contribution of youth to peace processes and conflict resolution, and effective responses at the local, national, regional, and international levels. Foreign Policy magazine has listed Farea as one of the “Top 100 Global Thinkers,” and The Guardian named him in its “Top 30 under 30” list of young leaders in digital media around the world. In addition to overseeing the Sana’a Center’s work, Farea also served as an Associate Fellow at the Chatham House in the Middle East and North Africa Program, and as a non-resident scholar at the Carnegie Middle East Center, and the Middle East Institute.
His writings on Yemen and the Gulf have appeared in publications such as Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, The New York Times, The Independent, The Guardian, McClatchy, The National, Al-Hayyat, Assafir, and Al-Monitor among other.
The Sana’a Center has become a well established independent think-tank that provides high-quality research and analysis aimed at positively influencing local and regional policies. To help grow his think tank, Farea has remained loyal to the MEPI network. The center currently employs several MEPI alumni from Yemen and around the Middle East, including alumni of the Tomorrow’s Leaders program.

Amanda Swanson had heard about the concrete canoe created by civil engineering students but had never seen it. During a staff tour of the engineering school, she took this photo. “I am always amazed at the things our students are capable of, and this project was no exception,” says Swanson.

Kyrie Bair captured many moments like this one at Horejsi Family Athletics Center this year while photographing KU’s volleyball team. Bair says that her favorite moments are the celebratory ones, and this 2015 team had many. The Jayhawks reached the Elite Eight and Final Four games in the NCAA volleyball tournament for the first time in the program’s history. “It has been very exciting to watch the crescendo of this season,” says Bair. “I am lucky to have been able to share in the pride, the stress, and every set point that the KU volleyball team has given this community.”

Nazirah Mohd, Sophomore studying petroleum engineering
Nazirah Mohd left her last international leadership team meeting at International Student Services feeling sentimental. She explains that it was an emotional evening because some of the members plan to leave the United States soon and some will not be returning to the team. “I looked at the Campanile and it was stunningly more beautiful in real life and it crossed my mind that people come and go, but the memories here at KU remain there,” says Mohd. “The Campanile symbolized that.”

Most of Brenda Morales’ classes are in Summerfield Hall, away from Jayhawk Boulevard. She decided that Watson Library was the perfect getaway for a Sunday afternoon study session. Morales says Watson reminds her of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter books, and the fog added to the magical atmosphere.

Adam Ferrari is a founding member of Ferrari Energy and has served as managing member since 2014. Adam began his career with BP America as a completions engineer in 2005. During his tenure with BP, Adam served in various drilling, completions, and production roles both in the Gulf of Mexico and the onshore US business units. Following his experience at BP, Adam transitioned to an equity analyst role within the Oil and Gas division at Macquarie Capital in Denver, CO. After 2 years in the financial services industry, Adam transitioned back to Oil and Gas industry in a lead Petroleum Engineering role with start-up Halcon Resources. Adam ultimately launched start up Ferrari Energy to capitalize on the opportunities present in the Oil and Gas acquisitions space. Adam Ferrari graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne Magna Cume Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.
With today's press release announcing the creation of the Texas A&M University at Nazareth-Peace Campus (www.kbtx.com/home/headlines/AM-Officially-Announces-Israe...), I have made a second iteration of the logo I uploaded last week. With the speculation that the academic emphasis of the new campus will be in water studies and petroleum engineering (www.statesman.com/news/news/state-regional/am-planning-co...), to last week's logo I have modified the upper central portion to invoke a "water drop," circumscribed around a rising "gas drop," circumscribed around an "oil drop".

Professor Richard Dawe, Chair of UWI Petroleum Engineering Unit, at Professor John Agard's Professorial Inaugural Lecture, held on Thursday 25th February at 5.30 p.m. at the Learning Resource Centre, The University of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine.
Dr. John B. R. Agard is Professor of Tropical Island Ecology and Head of the UWI Department of Life Sciences, and has served internationally as Lead Author in the Fourth Assessment Report of the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 2007, which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Professor Agard’s lecture, which is titled “Environment in Development: From Plantation Economy, Biodiversity Loss and Global Warming, Towards Sustainable Development,” argued that the Plantation Economy Model of Caribbean economic structures and characteristics can be further elaborated by the inclusion of the environment as a provider of ecosystem services.

Historic 1932 Administration Building on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. This was the first building to face the east toward a new state highway instead of the previous buildings that faced west toward the train station. The building was named the Jack K. Williams Administration Building in 1998 (for the 17th Texas A&M University President (1970-79)).
The Beaux Arts style building has 14 large ionic columns, each featuring the face of a warrior and a woman on top. The building also has 128 ram heads and 124 lion heads around the building’s perimeter.
The Administration Building was one of ten buildings constructed during a five-year period from 1928 to 1933 for the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (renamed Texas A&M in 1963). The others included the 1929 Chemistry Building, 1930 Cushing Memorial Library, 1930 Hart Hall, 1931 Alton Hall, 1932 Agricultural Engineering Building (now Scoates Hall), 1932 Animal Industries Building, 1932 Veterinary Hospital Building (now Haynes Engineering Building), 1932 Petroleum Engineering & Geology Building (now the Michel T. Halbouty Geosciences Building), and the now demolished 1933 Horse Barn (also known as the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station Annex Building).
Professor Richard Dawe teaches his class in the Petroleum Studies programme at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago.
Two Petroleum Studies programmes at The University of the West Indies (UWI) have recently earned accreditation from the Energy Institute (EI). This is in addition to previously earned accreditation by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) and the Geological Society of London (GSL) respectively.
The University’s Master of Science (MSc) in Petroleum Engineering and Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Petroleum Geoscience were awarded accreditation by the UK-based Energy Institute (EI).

If anyone is listening, Where did you grow up as a child? My sister Shilpa and I grew up largely in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. We moved around a lot so there were periods in India and Canada in there also.
This photo was taken in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Many expatriates lived in 'camps' there, run by multinational companies like Bechtel, and this is an example of the suburban style of them. Yes, I grew up on oil money. My dad always wanted to work in petroleum engineering.
The other two kids in the photo were our neighbors. Pam, the one flying, often flew into our house to make chapatis with my mom. She loved doing that! The great thing about living there was the friends and the shared cultures, in the neighborhood and in our school. As children, we were supremely happy.
