Greater Manchester Police wanted to close the Hacienda down after Operation Clubwatch established the full extent of the drug taking, drug dealing and drug wars going on inside the club. George Carman QC won the Hacienda a 6 month reprieve to sort out the problems (and as a result he now has something in common with Bernard Manning - ie his name is mis-spelled in the Hacienda timeline)....

Bernard Manning was chosen as the compere of the Hacienda's opening night and remarked from the stage that "I've played some shit holes during my time, but this is really something", as well as later telling the owners (Tony Wilson, New Order and their manager Rob Gretton) to "stick to your day jobs, cos you’re not cut out for clubs”....
I'm not sure if the mis-spelling of Manning's name as "Bernhard" is by accident or design.

Reportedly the first record with a holographic cover (I've done my best to photograph the hologram here), FAC 96 was a 7" single, "Telstar" b/w "Telstar In A Piano Bar" by Ad Infinitum.
Ad Infinitum was a project by New Order's bassist Peter Hook and Lindsay Wilson (the then wife of Tony Wilson).
This single was a cover of the Joe Meek classic "Telstar" and was released in Feb/March1984 in a unique hologram sleeve.
The A-side "Telstar" featured Hooky and a couple of Stockholm Monsters performing an electronic version of the track. Lindsay apparently sang vocals but they were unused because of legal complications.
The flipside, "Telstar In A Piano Bar", featured then ACR keyboardist Andy Connell and Simply Red's Tim Kellet, who was also working with Durutti Column at the time, on trumpet.

FAC 36 was the advertising campaign for the US release of Joy Division's "Closer" LP (FACTUS VI). The main thrust of the campaign was a series of three press ads in "Rolling Stone", which was the leading American rock magazine at the time.
The ad, in this case in the June 11th, 1981 issue of "RS", can be seen in the bottom right hand corner.
FAC 53, a 7" single by New Order - "Procession" b/w "Everything's Gone Green", released in September 1981.
Produced by Martin Hannett, this, the second single by New Order, was released in nine (pictured here) different colour variations, each featuring Peter Saville artwork inspired by a graphic of a generator by Fortunato Depero from 1927.
Blue Monday is a song by the English rock band New Order. It was released as a 12-inch single on 7 March 1983 through Factory Records. It appears on certain cassette and CD versions of New Order's second album, Power, Corruption & Lies. The track was written and produced by Gillian Gilbert, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris and Bernard Sumner. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Monday_(New_Order_song)
