Recently watched 24 Hour Party People which reminded me of some pictures I took of Joy Division in Mountford Hall....and here they are. They were supporting The Buzzcocks. As I recall, they played somewhat better than the headliners.
Peter Hook was playing a selection of Joy Division and New Order classic songs together with Section 25. Peter Hook was quite active striking poses. In the background Steve Stringer is handling the keyboards.

The ex-New Order/Joy Division bassist played a set of Joy Division songs followed by the New Order Brotherhood and Lowlife albums in their entirety. The guitarist in the background is his son.
Used the Indiglow effect in Aviary to add the border.

'Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.'

Berlin, 1.2020
On the 15th of January 1980, the mancunian band Joy Division had their unique gig in Berlin at Kant Kino. One of the oldest cinema still existing in Berlin.
"Maybe fifty people turned up at this gig. The poster was shit. I think Conny got someone in the office to try and draw the Unknown Pleasures cover, and they put about ten photocopies of this outside the Kant Kino, so obviously no one's going to come to this gig. I saw this poster and I thought, 'They're going to kill me.' I knew Peter Saville had taken such care over the artwork, and look at this shitty poster! Anyway, someone at the front is going 'Turn the vocals up!' And Bernard, with real venom, goes, 'Speak fucking english, you german bastard!' And that was it really, the gig was over." (Mark Reeder, in charge for the Factory Records in Germany)

I had no way to get the D750 in to the gig so settled for my little TG-6. Not really the ideal tool for the job. I just used it on automatic settings & happy enough with some of the pictures but Iβd much prefer to have got the big camera in.

The ex-New Order/Joy Division bassist played a set of Joy Division songs followed by the New Order Brotherhood and Lowlife albums in their entirety.
In 1985, Factory Records started releasing cassettes in the UK for the first time. Perversely - typically - the label chose to package them lavishly, in oversized linen boxes rather than the usual plastic cases.
New Order's "Low-life" was the first to be release, in Summer 1985, and by 1986, they'd got round to releasing the three Joy Division albums.

GMACP 1919 ...
Captured under a flood of neon green beams and fiery LED visuals, this image documents New Orderβs electrifying performance at Chase Center in San Francisco, one of the most visually immersive stops on their North American tour. The Manchester-born post-punk legends brought their signature blend of synths, guitars, and nostalgia to the Bay Area, and this wide-angle shot from the mezzanine perfectly encapsulates the energy of the night.
Chase Center, located in the cityβs Mission Bay neighborhood, is San Franciscoβs largest indoor arena, home to the Golden State Warriors and a major hub for touring acts. For a band like New Order, with their rich legacy of innovation in music and stage production, it was the ideal venue to merge sound and spectacle.
Frontman Bernard Sumner appears on the overhead video screen, his voice carrying through the arena as the band cycles through a setlist that bridges generationsβfrom Joy Division classics like βLove Will Tear Us Apartβ to timeless New Order tracks like βBlue Monday,β βBizarre Love Triangle,β and βTemptation.β Behind the band, towering LED walls pulse with glitch art, 3D animations, and bursts of digital fireβvisually echoing the bandβs layered sound.
The crowd below is a sea of movement and light, with heads bobbing, phones raised, and glow from the stage dancing across the faces of fans young and old. New Orderβs ability to draw multi-generational audiences is part of what keeps their live shows magnetic. Even in a space as large as Chase Center, the intimacy of a shared chorus still cuts through.
Photographically, this moment is framed with dramatic tension. The contrast between deep shadows and bright beams creates a sense of depth, while the converging lines of green lasers draw the eye directly to the band. The LED backdrop adds a jolt of color and complexity, pushing the frame beyond documentation into something more cinematic.
New Orderβs concerts arenβt just musical performancesβtheyβre multimedia experiences, tightly choreographed and always evolving. For decades, the band has incorporated visual art, avant-garde film, and graphic design into their shows, echoing their Factory Records roots and long-standing collaborations with artists like Peter Saville.
For fans of concert photography, 80s synth music, or the ongoing story of post-punkβs evolution, this image delivers a high-voltage glimpse into a night when music, memory, and technology collided. Whether you're a lifelong fan or just discovering their sound, seeing New Order live at the Chase Center is proof that legacy acts can still redefine what a live show feels like.

This may or may not be the official poster for the soon-to-be-released film on Joy Division. It's a choice between this one or another one in sepia. Prefer this one myself.
This is not the finished item; credits still have to be added.
