Germany, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Alps, Zugspitze, summer view from the Zugspitz plateau over the Wetterstein mountain range. The Zugspitze, rises eleven kim southwest of Garmisch-Patenkirchen, at 2,962 mtr, with the Summit cross, above sea level it is the highest mountain of Germany & the highest peak of the Wetterstein mountain range of the Northern Limestone Alps at the border to Austria.
On good days you can see around 400 peaks from the Zugspitze 250 km away the Feldberg in the Black Forest, Hochkönig & Watzmann in the Berchtesgaden Alps, Großglockner & Wildspitze in Austria, the Marmolada also the highest mountain in the Dolomites.
No other German summit that is so easily accessible can keep up with this 360-degree panorama. You can often see the magic mountain not only from the six holiday areas of the Upper Bavarian Zugspitz region, with luck & good weather conditions one can see it from Munich.
Since 1851 there has been the first ca. 4,7 mtr tall summit cross on the top of the Zugspitze. The driving force behind the erection of a cross on the summit was the priest, Christoph Ott. After 37 years the cross had to be taken down after suffering numerous lightning strikes & its support brackets were also badly damaged. In the winter of 1881–1882 it was therefore brought down into the valley & repaired, on August 1882 the cross was installed back on the top. Because of a lodge was built on original side on the West Summit, the team positioned the cross on the East Summit. There it remained for about 111 years, until it was removed again in 1993.
This time the damage was not only caused by the weather, but also by American soldiers at the end of the Second World War, they used the cross as target practice after 1945, the summit cross could no longer be repaired & a 4,88 mtr tall true-to-original replica was made.
After two months the rack railway carried the new cross in October to the Zugspitzplatt, from where it was flown to the summit by helicopter, the new cross has a height of 4.88 metres. It was renovated & regilded in 2009 for 15,000 €, since April 2009, the cross stood once again on the East Summit.
Flatlanders like myself do no longer have to train their legs to visit the Zugspitze: the cog railway & cable cars on the German side can bring 6,000 people up to the top every day, including prams, wheelchairs & boxes for the lapdogs. There are also other passengers on a cable car on the Austrian side, plus the hikers who ascend on one of the four usual routes.
For the average tourists, a short, slightly exposed path on the east summit leads to the summit cross. Despite its short length, it requires concentration, the small path & the ladder anchored in the rock wall to the summit is very busy & crowded at certain times. The greasy rock is secured with a handhold steel ropes, to be alone on the summit is at certain times, for example early in the morning before the first cable car arrives at the Munich house.
👉 The ascent to the summit cross is easy for "selfie fans / chasers" & carries too many tourists on the Zugspitze. The shady side of the summit cross mass tourism has as a result that the shaft of the cross is full of stickers brought with them ... the good thing is that there is no way for the so-called love locks to attach them. In downright breakneck exercises, the last remaining free spots are filled in order to get as close as possible to the golden ball, even if it can hardly be read up there. Because there is no longer any space further down for round, square or rectangular emblems, of course, the other stickers are not pasted over, ... so much consideration has to be given.
The stickers cannot be easily removed. If they were removed, the cross, which is covered with delicate gold leafs, would be damaged. The damage could only be repaired with high costs & great logistical effort, there are also no technical solutions to ward off such attacks. Even if a webcam is aimed at the summit cross - the perpetrators will not be deterred.
The time when I shot the picture the cross was cleaned shortly before.
👉 In 2012 a Muslim prayer house was built on the summit, at the same time, a photo of the summit without the summit cross was published in the new advertising brochure.
The selection of images was criticized by the Bavarian churches as a denial of the religious roots of the Bavarian/Austrian culture & country & a misplaced ingratiation to the Muslim visitors.

Montségur was one of the last strongholds of the Cathars, a spiritual movement in medieval Europe between the 12th and 14th centuries, considered heretic by the Catholic Church. The Siege of Montségur was a nine-month siege of the Cathar-held Fortress of Montségur by 10,000 French royal troops starting in May 1243. In March 1244, the Cathars finally surrendered and approximately 244 were burned en masse in a bonfire at the foot of the pog (mountain) when they refused to renounce their faith. The Inquisitors kept faithful accounts and included the names of many, who are remembered every year on the anniversary of the massacre on March 16. The Albigensian Crusade or the Cathar Crusade (1209–1229) was a 20-year military campaign initiated by Pope Innocent III to eliminate Catharism in southern France. From 1209 to 1215, the Crusaders experienced great success, capturing Cathar lands and perpetrating acts of extreme violence, often against civilians. From 1215 to 1225, a series of revolts caused many of the lands to be lost. A renewed crusade resulted in the recapturing of the territory and effectively drove Catharism underground by 1244. The Albigensian Crusade is considered by many historians to be an act of genocide against the Cathars. The photo is a panorama stitched from 6 vertical frames.
... weaving its way through the Bighorn Basin
Not to be confused with Little Bighorn River of the Battle fame, which joins the Bighorn River in Hardin, Montana. The Bighorn then joins the Yellowstone River.
(Aside: The battle of the Little Bighorn River on 25/26 June 1876 was a decisive victory for the native Americans. Lt. Col. Custer had been leading five companies of the 7th Cavalry in an attack against an encampment of native Americans, expecting to be able to perpetrate a massacre without any own losses.
This expectation was unfounded. Outnumbered 5:1 by Lakota, Cheyenne and Arapaho warriors, Custer's men were administered a liberal dose of their own medicine, leaving 268 dead (including Custer) and 50 wounded.
But this was not here, but further north, in Montana)
The Bighorn River has the distinction of having two names. The part up to and including Wind River Canyon is the called Wind River, while after the canyon it's called Bighorn River. Both parts were named independently by different people who didn't realise that it was one and the same.

In an alternative imagining of the 19th century slave trade, the white man is the slave of the black slave trader.
Sometimes seeing things differently helps us SEE things differently.
Brand new black and white edit with the title borrowed from a line from Redemption Song by Bob Marley.
Story behind this shoot:
I did the colour versions of this shoot a few years ago. They went viral and were widely acclaimed as impactful and thought provoking after being picked up by a famous Black American influencer on Instagram. The series of 6 of these shots had before this been accepted for a UK Nationwide touring exhibition - to be pulled at the last minute by those in charge as it was considered it may be too "distressing for school children" to see these (even though it was a normal exhibition for all the public who would mainly be adults anyway).
Seeing the usual images of black people suffering in chains in the schoolbooks is apparently okay, but it is not good for kids to see things differently, or to perish the thought to make the next generation actually have to THINK and be impacted ... and if they are distressed for a little while by the reality then so be it, as that's how change happens by hearts and minds being impacted as slavery and racism and inequality based on race is distressing. Whatever the race of the perpetrator and victim.
I - and my two awesome models here PJ Walker and Horace Silver - am proud that these images are considered powerful enough to impact young minds. And maybe a few old ones.

HRF Files Criminal Complaint in Italy Against IDF Soldier Israel Yitzhki for War Crimes, Crimes Against Humanity, and Genocide
Brussels / Rome – 15 December 2025:
The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) has filed a criminal complaint before the Italian judicial authorities against Israeli soldier Israel Yitzhki, a member of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), for his alleged involvement in war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts of genocide committed during Israel’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip.
The complaint was submitted to the Procura della Repubblica on the basis of universal jurisdiction, following confirmation that Yitzhki is currently present on Italian territory. Under international and Italian law, Italy is legally obliged to investigate and prosecute individuals suspected of grave international crimes when they are found on its soil.
Why Italy Has a Duty to Act
Italy is a State Party to the Geneva Conventions of 1949, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, and the UN Convention Against Torture. These instruments impose a clear obligation on States to search for, investigate, and prosecute individuals suspected of grave breaches of international humanitarian law, regardless of nationality or where the crimes were committed.
The complaint explicitly invokes:
* Article 146 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which establishes mandatory universal jurisdiction over grave breaches;
* Article 5(2) of the Convention Against Torture, requiring prosecution when a suspect is present and not extradited;
* The principle of aut dedere aut judicare — extradite or prosecute.
As the filing makes clear, States cannot lawfully become safe havens for suspected perpetrators of international crimes.
The Context: Gaza as a Crime Scene
The complaint situates Yitzhki’s actions within the broader context of Israel’s campaign in Gaza, which UN bodies have repeatedly characterized as involving systematic violations of international law.
* Over 70,000 Palestinians have been killed, including more than 20,000 children;
* More than 170,000 people have been injured;
* 92% of homes, 88% of schools, 81% of roads, and 80% of commercial infrastructure have been destroyed or damaged;
* Hundreds of civilians have died from starvation and malnutrition, caused by the deliberate obstruction of food and humanitarian aid.
UN agencies, the International Court of Justice, and the International Criminal Court have all confirmed the seriousness of these crimes. Arrest warrants have already been issued by the ICC against Israeli leaders Benjamin Netanyahu (b. 1949) and Yoav Gallant (b. 1958) for crimes against humanity.
Alleged Crimes by Israel Yitzhki
According to HRF’s investigative findings, Israel Yitzhki served in the 432nd Battalion of the Givati Brigade and participated in operations involving:
* Extensive destruction of civilian property without military necessity;
* Attacks on undefended towns, residential buildings, and civilian objects;
* Arson and controlled demolitions of homes and shelters;
* Occupation and destruction of schools used as civilian refuges;
* Unlawful detention and humiliating treatment of Palestinian civilians, including the publication of images showing detainees blindfolded, handcuffed, and kneeling.
The complaint argues that these acts constitute war crimes under Article 8 of the Rome Statute, including:
* destruction of property not justified by military necessity;
* attacks against civilian objects;
* illegal detention of protected persons;
* outrages upon personal dignity and degrading treatment;
* and, potentially, torture and inhuman treatment.
Crimes Against Humanity and Genocide
Beyond individual war crimes, the filing asserts that Yitzhki’s actions may also qualify as crimes against humanity under Article 7 of the Rome Statute, including extermination, unlawful imprisonment, torture, and other inhumane acts committed as part of a widespread and systematic attack against a civilian population.
Crucially, the complaint also addresses genocide. It argues that the systematic destruction of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure — homes, schools, water systems, healthcare facilities — amounts to:
* causing serious bodily and mental harm; and
* deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about the physical destruction of the Palestinian population, in whole or in part.
These conclusions align with findings issued in September 2025 by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry, which determined that Israeli authorities are committing genocide in Gaza.
Request for Urgent Precautionary Measures
Given the gravity of the allegations and the risk that Yitzhki may leave Italy, HRF has requested that the Italian authorities consider urgent precautionary measures, including:
* seizure of passports and travel documents;
* preservation of digital evidence.
The filing also formally requests notification of any prosecutorial decisions, including extensions of investigations or potential dismissal, in accordance with Italian criminal procedure.
Abou Jahjah: No Safe Haven in Europe
This filing is part of HRF’s broader strategy to ensure that no European country becomes a refuge for perpetrators of atrocities committed in Gaza.
"International law is meaningless if it stops at borders", HRF General Director Dyab Abou Jahjah (b. 1971) stated.
"When those suspected of war crimes and genocide enter Europe, States must choose between impunity and justice. There is no third option", he added.
The Hind Rajab Foundation will continue to pursue accountability across jurisdictions until those responsible for crimes in Gaza — perpetrators, accomplices, and inciters alike — are brought before competent courts.

HRF Seeks Arrest of Israeli Soldier in Spain Over the Destruction of Beit Hanoun
Barcelona / Brussels – 3 December 2025:
The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) has filed a criminal complaint in Spain against Israeli soldier Benayau Nahum for his alleged responsibility in genocide and serious war crimes committed during Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip, particularly in the northern town of Beit Hanoun.
The complaint was submitted after confirming that the suspect was present on Spanish territory, triggering Spain’s obligations under international law to investigate and prosecute grave international crimes. HRF has formally requested the urgent arrest of the suspect to prevent his departure and to ensure accountability.
The Accused and His Military Unit
Benayau Nahum served as a soldier in the 97th Netzah Yehuda Battalion of the 900th Kfir Brigade. This unit has a long record of serious human rights violations, including:
* The killing of unarmed civilians,
* Abuse and torture of detainees,
* And the systematic destruction of Palestinian property.
The battalion has previously been implicated in internationally condemned cases and has repeatedly operated in occupied Palestinian territory with near-total impunity.
*** [ [Personal note: I can confirm this based on what I personally saw during my 2007-2011 UN-affiliated service in the Occupied West Bank. The worst criminal Israeli IDF "military" units by far are certainly the Kfir Brigade and the Nahal of the Nahal brigade.
These two units in particular - their history and all their members ought to be intensively investigated all the way back to 1967 and beyond. Consisting of predominantly jewish fundamentalists, religious zealots, zionists, criminals, kahanists, no-goods and madmen they certainly would be akin to any former member of the Nazi Waffen-SS in my eyes.
You have to be quite oblivious to history if you cannot see the similarities between Nazi Germany and these Israeli paramilitary / military groups represented by the Kfir, the Gadna and the Nahal. Israel is through and through a jewish supremacist militaristic fascist society.] ] ***
Its presence in Gaza formed part of Israel’s large-scale ground operations in the north of the Strip.
Destruction of Beit Hanoun
Between late 2024 and early 2025, Beit Hanoun was subjected to near-total destruction as part of a broader military strategy aimed at emptying northern Gaza of its population. Entire neighborhoods were set on fire, leveled by heavy machinery, and erased from the map.
The evidence in HRF’s possession places Benayau Nahum directly on the ground during these operations. It shows his participation in systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure, including homes and public buildings, at a time when Beit Hanoun was already largely depopulated and defenseless.
The scale of destruction in northern Gaza during this period rendered vast areas uninhabitable and made return impossible for most of the displaced population.
Legal Qualification of the Crimes
The complaint accuses Benayau Nahum of:
* Genocide, for contributing to conditions of life calculated to bring about the physical destruction of part of the Palestinian population;
* War crimes, including:
- Extensive destruction of civilian property not justified by military necessity;
- Attacks against civilian buildings and undefended towns;
- Participation in the forcible displacement of a protected civilian population.
Under international humanitarian law, civilian objects are strictly protected. The large-scale, methodical destruction documented in Beit Hanoun cannot be justified by any lawful military objective.
Spain’s Obligation to Act
Spain is bound by international law, including the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute, to either prosecute or extradite individuals suspected of committing genocide and war crimes when they are found on its territory.
Given the presence of the suspect in Spain and the lack of genuine proceedings elsewhere, HRF has requested:
* The opening of a criminal investigation;
* The immediate detention of the suspect;
* And the adoption of urgent measures to prevent his escape.
Breaking the Wall of Impunity
This complaint is part of HRF’s broader effort to dismantle the system of impunity protecting perpetrators of crimes against the Palestinian people. It sends a clear message that:
Participation in genocide and war crimes carries personal criminal responsibility, wherever the perpetrator may attempt to hide.
HRF continues to pursue similar cases across multiple jurisdictions and will not relent until justice is served.

Why Bar Associations Must Act: The Dutch Debate on Complicity and the Responsibility of Lawyers in International Crimes
3 November 2025:
On 2 December, the Dutch Bar Association (NOvA) [Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten] will hold an extraordinary assembly to address a question that is rapidly becoming unavoidable across the global legal profession:
What is the responsibility of lawyers when their work intersects with a state committing international crimes?
The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) welcomes the participation of its co-founder, Haroon Raza, a criminal defence attorney with more than twenty years of experience, in this meeting. Mr. Raza's contribution focuses on a reality many in the profession have long avoided confronting — that legal advice, corporate structuring, and financial facilitation can play a direct role in sustaining Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.
The Professional Environment: A Legal System Intertwined with Global Capital
The Netherlands stands at the centre of a dense network of financial and corporate structures. Tens of billions of euros connected to Israeli entities — including companies tied to the military, surveillance, technological development, and settlement expansion [ *** Personal note: For instance American Airbnb and Dutch Booking.com - just to mention a few! *** ] — flow through Dutch holding companies, investment funds, and advisory firms.
Lawyers are involved at every step: drafting corporate agreements, approving investments, advising on compliance, structuring acquisitions, and legitimising transactions.
When these structures are linked to a state perpetrating mass killing, starvation, forced displacement, and systematic destruction of civilian life, the role of the legal profession must be examined with honesty rather than ritualised neutrality.
Motion 3: An Attempt to Define Professional Boundaries
At the centre of the upcoming assembly is Motion 3, a proposal seeking to address precisely this challenge. The motion calls for the establishment of an independent committee within the Dutch Bar Association to evaluate the responsibilities of lawyers involved in high-risk transactions — particularly those connected to situations where there is a serious risk of contributing to war crimes, crimes against humanity, apartheid, or genocide.
Its purpose is straightforward:
* to articulate clear due-diligence requirements in high-risk contexts,
* to identify warning signs of potential complicity,
* to define professional standards of conduct, and
* to provide guidance on when lawyers must decline or withdraw from engagements.
Motion 3 is not a political statement. It is an attempt to bring the profession’s established principles — independence, integrity, and the duty to avoid unlawful conduct — into alignment with the realities of modern global practice. Comparable standards already exist for sanctions regimes, anti-money-laundering responsibilities, and other areas where legal services intersect with international harm.
The question is why similar principles have not yet been applied to Israel’s actions in Gaza, despite the scale and severity of the crimes.
A Profession Confronted With Its Own Infrastructure
Large law firms and corporate practices in major financial centres — London, New York, Paris, Frankfurt, Singapore, Dubai, Toronto — routinely advise clients with direct or indirect links to Israeli institutions, military industries, and settlement enterprises.
[ *** Personal note: A huge amount of these settlements are funded directly from the USA and needs to be examined most thoroughly - Example: The US 501(c) tax-exempted Hebron Fund ! Like WTF!? ]
In many cases, risk assessments are superficial or absent. The assumption that “legal advice is neutral” has become a shield against accountability.
This assumption is no longer tenable.
Speaking ahead of the assembly, Mr. Raza addressed the profession with unusual clarity:
"When a legal opinion, a contract, or a corporate structure helps sustain a system committing genocide, the lawyer involved cannot hide behind claims of neutrality. Our profession must recognise that routine legal work can become a vehicle for atrocity. Motion 3 is about safeguarding the integrity of the law — and ensuring we do not enable Israel’s crimes in Gaza."
His statement reflects a broader shift: lawyers are beginning to acknowledge that their professional activities can contribute materially to the functioning of systems responsible for mass violence.
The Broader Context: Accountability Beyond the Battlefield
The Hind Rajab Foundation’s work has repeatedly demonstrated that atrocity crimes do not occur in isolation. They are supported by corporate supply chains, financial networks, investment portfolios, digital infrastructure, and legal advice. Israel’s genocide in Gaza is no exception.
Legal professionals occupy a crucial position within these systems. Without their services, many transactions linked to military procurement, settlement construction, surveillance systems, or economic extraction simply cannot proceed.
The question for bar associations worldwide is not whether their members have political opinions. The question is whether their work strengthens — knowingly or unknowingly — the machinery of genocide.
A Necessary Evolution in Professional Self-Regulation
Motion 3 offers a model of what serious professional self-governance can look like. Bar associations across Europe, North America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia should consider similar mechanisms:
* independent oversight bodies,
* mandatory due-diligence frameworks,
* explicit standards on complicity,
* and training on international criminal liability for legal advisors.
Such measures are not symbolic. They reflect the reality that the legal profession is now deeply embedded in the structures that make international crimes possible.
The Moment Ahead
Israel’s actions in Gaza — mass killing, destruction of civilian infrastructure, systematic starvation, and the targeted annihilation of families — constitute genocide. In this context, the legal profession’s responsibilities cannot remain undefined.
The debate within the Dutch Bar Association is a signal to bar associations everywhere:
The age of pretending that legal work exists outside the world’s worst crimes is over.
The credibility of the profession depends on its willingness to recognise this moment — and to act accordingly.

Acid attacks have been a horrific phenomenon in Bangladesh for several decades. In most cases, victims are women and children who have been targeted for various reasons, including rejection of marriage proposals, disputes over property, or family issues. These attacks are typically carried out by disgruntled partners, relatives, or acquaintances using cheap and easily accessible acid.
The effects of acid attacks are both physical and psychological, and they often leave victims with lifelong scars. Acid burns can cause severe disfigurement, blindness, and even death. The victims also suffer from psychological trauma, including depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The physical and emotional toll of acid attacks can be devastating for victims, and it can also have significant social and economic consequences. Many victims become outcasts in their communities, unable to work, and facing social stigma and discrimination. They may also require expensive medical treatment and ongoing care, which can be financially crippling for them and their families.
Despite the severity of the crime and the devastating impact on victims, acid attacks remain a pervasive problem in Bangladesh. In many cases, perpetrators are not brought to justice due to a lack of resources, corruption, or inadequate legal systems. Even when cases do go to court, convictions are rare, and many perpetrators walk free due to inadequate evidence or lenient sentencing.
The Bangladeshi government has made some efforts to address this issue, including imposing stricter regulations on the sale of acid and establishing specialized burn units in hospitals. However, these measures have not been enough to prevent acid attacks or ensure justice for victims.
The acid attack epidemic in Bangladesh is a tragic and ongoing human rights crisis that requires urgent attention and action from government authorities, civil society organizations, and the international community. It is essential to create a comprehensive response that includes prevention, protection, and justice for victims, as well as efforts to change societal attitudes towards gender-based violence.

A double blitz by French special forces in Dammartin-en-Goele (north of Paris) and Porte de Vincennes (south of the capital): the Kouachi brothers, perpetrators of the massacre in the editorial offices of the weekly Charlie Hebdo, and Amedy Coulibaly, who was holding at least 6 people hostage in a Jewish supermarket in the capital, were killed. His accomplice, however, managed to escape. In the city center, four officers were injured, four hostages lost their lives (three of them are said to have died before the attack) and four others are said to be in very serious condition. "Through buried paths, where sleepy twilight dreams. The summer time away." John Keats.
Beyond the most famous cities, beyond the places that everyone visits, there are always small dream locations in each country that for many people can go unnoticed. Undoubtedly, the Belgian town of Dinant located in the Walloon region, is one of those jewels that many overlook. Years ago when I found a photo on the internet of this place, I decided that on my next visit to Belgium I would not miss the opportunity to visit and photograph it. Its colorful buildings, its gothic collegiate church of unique architecture (bulbous domes are not common in western Europe), its citadel on the mountains behind it, its perfect reflection in the waters of the river Meuse... What more could a photographer ask for?
This is also a town with an interesting history, with constant attacks due to its privileged position. From the Middle Ages until the early 20th century, its inhabitants suffered the barbarities of war. It will remain forever in the memory of the city the destruction and massacre perpetrated by German troops in World War I, from which Dinant recovered by rebuilding its monuments and facing the future with optimism.
Here it was also born Adolphe Sax, inventor of the saxophone, a fact that the city proudly remembers with sculptures of this instrument through its streets, bridges and squares.

A disused factory is keeping the vandals busy. The saying, "the devil finds work for idle hands" seems apt in this instance. It isn't a quote from the Bible, but there's perhaps a grain of truth in it.
We all have a fallen, sinful nature. Whilst I am sure that, at times, the devil is only too willing to capitalise on that fact, we really don't need to blame the devil for inspiring our bad behaviour.
You and I might never have been tempted to break windows and spray-paint the walls of someone else's building, but, when left to our own devices, we often tend towards selfish, indulgent and destructive behaviour.
If we are honest, I think we can admit that we rarely live up to the standards we set for ourselves, nor the standards we expect of others. How much less, then, do we measure up against the standards God has set?
Romans 3:23 says: "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Now, if your property was the target of vandalism, I'm sure you would like to see the perpetrators caught and punished. If there were any justice in the world they would be. Well, God is just. And He has promised a final judgement for all of us:
"It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." (Hebrews 9:27)
On judgement day, none of us will be able to claim that we measure up to God's standards. Let's face it, we don't even live up to our own!
Whether we realise it or not, we are all 'guilty as charged' in God's courtroom and awaiting sentencing. Justice demands punishment, but God has already paid the penalty. He has made it possible for us to have our 'charge sheet' wiped clean:
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)
We cannot pay for a life of rebellion towards God, but we can exercise "repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ" (Acts 20:21) in order to accept God's gift of forgiveness.
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
This is straight out of the camera, no processing. I'm hopeful that Obama will be victorious today in spite of the frauds perpetrated in the voting process by his opponents. Cross your fingers.
A 12 frame stitch panorama of Golden Hour over Lake Pedder in Tasmania's South West.
Taken from the comms tower on Twelvetrees Range, Teds Beach/Serpentine Reach in the foreground with Starfish Hill and Koruna Peak on the Wilmot Range in the background.
Lake Pedder is named for the drowned Lake Pedder that lies under the surface somewhere in the top left of the picture.
The lake here is the result of three dams - two on the Huon River and the other on the Serpentine River that created a huge impoundment of relatively shallow water.
Water from this bastardry flows into Lake Gordon off to the right (north) that feeds the Gordon River Hydro Electric scheme dating from 1972.
Pedder remains controversial. The lake's legacy is a strong conservation movement in Tasmania/Australia resulting from the protests about the damming. Action spawned by the Save Lake Pedder movement saw the Gordon below Franklin scheme scrapped and the Tasmanian Greens formed.
Sadly since those times, self-interest continues to dominate our government and its policies. Justified as 'jobs and growth', any number of vile, anti-custodial acts over the earth and her special places are perpetrated.

I know that this is a poor quality shot, but I wanted to share it, anyway. This was at Tom McCall Waterfront Park today. Someone was out throwing big pieces of bread for the birds (I know, it's bad for them, but it certainly draws a crowd...). Many (dozens) of gulls and a few mallards were surrounding the perpetrator. I was some distance away, on my walk; I heard a ruckus start, and saw this mallard drake with a big piece of bread, followed closely by a large flock of gulls. He did a few diversionary tactics, and ended up over the water, where he was nearly overtaken, at which time he dropped the bread, and the gulls fought among themselves to retrieve it.

∎ The Cranberries - Zombie - Lyric
_______________________________________________
"Zombie" is a protest song by Irish alternative rock band the Cranberries, written by the band's lead singer Dolores O'Riordan about The Troubles in Northern Ireland. It was released on 19 September 1994 by Island Records as the lead single from their second studio album, No Need to Argue (1994), two weeks ahead of the album's release. Music critics have long recognized "Zombie" as "a masterpiece of alternative rock", as well as a grunge number uncharacteristic of the band's other work.
"Zombie" reached No. 1 on the charts of Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, and Iceland, and although it did not chart on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, it did reach No. 1 on the US Billboard Alternative Airplay chart. In addition, the song was voted by Australian radio Triple J listeners as No. 1 on the 1994 Triple J Hottest 100 chart. It won the Best Song Award at the 1995 MTV Europe Music Awards. The accompanying music video was directed by Samuel Bayer.
In 2017, the song was released as an acoustic, stripped-down version on the band's Something Else album. In April 2020, it became the first song by an Irish group to surpass one billion views on YouTube.
Background
The Troubles were a conflict in Northern Ireland from the late 1960s to 1998. During the conflict more than 3,500 people died and thousands more were injured. The Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA), an Irish republican paramilitary organisation, waged an armed campaign to end British rule in Northern Ireland and unite the region with the Republic of Ireland. Republican and Unionist paramilitaries killed thousands of people. Over 10,000 bomb attacks were perpetrated by paramilitary groups in Ireland and England.
The song was written in response to the death of Johnathan Ball, aged 3, and Tim Parry, aged 12, both of whom had been killed in the 1993 Warrington bombings, when two IRA improvised explosive devices hidden in litter bins were detonated in a shopping street in Warrington, England. Ball died at the scene of the bombing as a result of his shrapnel-inflicted injuries, and five days later, Parry lost his life as a result of head injuries. 56 others were injured, some seriously. Parry died in his father's arms in a hospital in Walton, Liverpool. The two boys had gone shopping to buy Mother's Day cards on one of the town's busiest shopping streets.
There were a lot of bombs going off in London and I remember this one time a child was killed when a bomb was put in a rubbish bin – that's why there's that line in the song, 'A child is slowly taken'. [ ... ] We were on a tour bus and I was near the location where it happened, so it really struck me hard – I was quite young, but I remember being devastated about the innocent children being pulled into that kind of thing. So I suppose that's why I was saying, 'It's not me' – that even though I'm Irish it wasn't me, I didn't do it. Because being Irish, it was quite hard, especially in the UK when there was so much tension.
— Dolores O'Riordan in 2017, on writing "Zombie".

Food for Profit, the film directed by Pablo D'Ambrosi and Giulia Innocenzi, is the first documentary that sheds light on the intricate links between the meat industry, lobbies and the highest levels of political power. The film denounces the transfer of huge public capital towards intensive farming, which not only perpetrates serious animal abuse, but also contributes to environmental pollution and represents a potential risk for future pandemic outbreaks. Through compelling cinematic storytelling and thoughtful investigative research, directors Giulia and Pablo guide us on a journey that is both revelatory and shocking across the European landscape. Tackling farmers, businesses and leading political figures, the documentary shows us the stark reality of a system that often hid apparent excellence in European dairy and meat products. At the same time, an infiltrator, posing as an agri-food lobbyist, manages to penetrate the power circles of the European Parliament, collecting crucial information through secret recordings and revealing shocking aspects of the political dynamics at play.
If life could be so kind...
..would it be?
would you offer politeness a second chance,
or steal away with the only 'me'
that of your beloved heart's stoic stance
we're only alive once upon a time in life
where memories grace our thearchic imaginations;
who rules that roost, if I may ask?
and does the answer come before ruling reputations
a question of faith in the diocese of the hidden heathen mask
where we came, becomes our sacral souvenir
a sanctuary were it not for overcrowded pleas
seeking, ever searching for that place
incomplete without, our world rules on borrowed guarantees
with no time in credit for the purchase of love to embrace
who is absolutely right here?
when all of us left fight for a glimmer of hope,
that past perpetrator's have already dug away at nature's purity
governmental genocide of war-torn greed leaves us all sliding the slippery slope
our guilty leaders sit penannular in their shame and collective obscurity
damn them! damn them all to hell! this is no gilding of the lily
if you see you feel, when you feel you react,
and despise the polluting of minds as much as the polluting of life on earth itself
upon us all, the weight and burden is heavily stacked
dare we allow peirastic science the gift to find oneself?
I would have thought we were human enough by now?
or do we deem nature insufficient for our superior purposes nowadays?
the mere Swan is but a Swan compared to us technobeasts
and yet, envy we do, the Swan with it's gentility and grace that never ceases to amaze
to find that higher state of presence of mind far beyond our scavenging political feasts
another expansion for us beings, and one down for the feathered wings in retreat
backhanders here, there and everywhere, so ignore the nature in peril
advanced sales, profits up, another downer for the ringed gliders of pure merit
we're up there with the fat cats, clawing every inch upon our instinctive feral
now where has all the life gone? is an empty world all we've left to inherit?

The remains of a near-border settlement (Nová Ves 1791 - 1953) depopulated and demolished by the communist regime. The perpetrators of crimes committed in the Czechoslovak borderlands were never brought to justice.
"The perpetrator is known for stalking people at night. This has led to 15 restraining orders, and the confiscation of 12 different bat-shaped cameras. It is unknown from whom the perpretrator obtained these cameras."

The Human massacre perpetrated by Anders Breivik in Norway, as well as the ones that are currently being perpetrated by governing & non-governing criminals in Libya, Syria, Yemen, & in other parts of the world (check Amnesty’s website for further info) are all condemnable with no exception.
The divine religion condemns racism, terrorism & oppression.
Anyone committing a crime or any kind of injustice in the name of God, is in obvious contradiction with himself, whether he’s Muslim or Christian or Jewish.
Anyone intentionally & consciously killing & terrorizing innocent people is guilty of violating the laws of God, no matter the religion or ideology he claims he adheres to, no matter his origin or race, he will be held accountable for it on the day of Judgement.

In order to understand the motive of some Muslim terrorists, I invite you to watch the following video: “Who is the true holy warrior?” (it’s very short, but well made – if you can’t understand their English very well, a transcription of their dialogue is available in comments.) The veritable duty of Muslims is to prevent these acts & to bring peace & justice to the world, & not to terrorize it.
___
As for Anders Breivik’s case, it’s still under investigation, but Kevin Dutton (a research fellow at the University of Cambridge, who has a Ph.D in psychology & is an expert on the science of social influence) wrote a very interesting analysis of his profile & motive, you can read it here. Here are some excerpts:
“Now there's a reason why you get this kind of profile. It's the profile of someone with a hugely inflated ego. But who, nevertheless, still feels socially inadequate. (…) What happened on Utoya Island wasn't about immigration. Or so-called Eurabia. Or the Eurocrats' plot against the people. In fact, it wasn't really about ideology or religion at all. That's just the window dressing. It was all about him. Breivic. (…) Now one of the things we know about narcissists and egomaniacs is that they have a tendency to externalize blame. A formidable natural talent for it. Nothing is their fault. It's always somebody else's."

Edit (september 11, 2011) : Obviously, Islam does condemn the terrorist attacks that caused the death of more than 2700 Civilians 10 years ago in New York. A tragedy that has affected the whole Mankind, & not only the US.

I spotted this pair waiting patiently at a set of traffic lights in Nagpur, a city in central India. They were looking on intently as another donkey brutally bullied its smaller companion.
After several minutes of sustained assault, the unfortunate victim finally snapped, turned on its assailant and chased it, braying loudly, into the middle of the busy road where it unleashed its retaliation by biting the perpetrator's ankles.
A donkey-themed David and Goliath for modern India... See my photostream for a frame-by-frame record of how the drama unfolded.

We had made it back to Karaganda Oblast. As we know from crime novels, perpetrators return to the scene of the crime. So did we! There were unfinished scores to settle. We took a seat on the north side of the Central Enrichment Facilities No. 1. The road to the right of the picture leads to a settlement, maybe ten houses, but no more. Life on the coal! Further in the distance, you can see the spoil heap; every ten minutes, a large Belas dump truck comes along, stirring up coal dust on the road, and the wind carries the dust into the settlement.
An old woman came to us. She was wearing casual clothes, a high-visibility vest, and a helmet. She was thin, with a small belly and a gaunt face. Ochrona! Later, we talked about her, she might be an alcoholic, the vodka comforting her during the long evenings on the steppe. Coal, coal everywhere! We gave her a picture of TEM2UM-331, and she seemed happy to be there; she was delighted with the gift. This locomotive is familiar to us. But we haven't yet seen a picture of it entering the factory.

Baha’i Rights Day is dedicated to raise awareness about human rights abuses perpetrated against the Baha’i community. Decades have passed and the Baha’is in Iran and Egypt have not had a minute of rest from the ongoing persecution. Looting of Baha’i homes, the arrest and incarceration of Baha’is, denial of civil rights, the desecration of Baha’i cemeteries, the expulsion of Baha’i students from university and the closure of Baha’i businesses are only a few aspects of the crusade launched against the Baha’is.
Inform yourself on the persecution at Iran Press Watch and the Muslim Network for Bahai Rights
Please spread the awareness!
In the Western United States there were many cemeteries called Boot Hill. It was the place where gunfighters who “died with their boots on” were buried.
Hanging was justice reserved for murderers and rapists. Judges did not sentence a person to hang for horse theft, but when no justice was forthcoming, cowboys and vigilantes often lynched the perpetrator.
In the United States criminal law, a frame-up (frameup) or setup is the act of framing someone, that is, providing false evidence or false testimony in order to falsely prove someone guilty of a crime. While incriminating those who are innocent might be done out of sheer malice, framing is primarily used as a distraction.
Generally, the person who is framing someone else is the actual perpetrator of the crime. In other cases it is an attempt by law enforcement to get around due process. Motives include getting rid of political dissidents or "correcting" what they see as the court's mistake. Some lawbreakers will try to claim they were framed as a defence strategy.
In the UK you are more likely to find:
Perverting the course of justice is an English common law crime. It involves someone preventing justice from being served on themselves or on someone else. A serious criminal offence, perverting the course of justice is triable on indictment only. Other crimes, such as perjury, fraud or witness tampering can also amount to perverting the course of justice, but would be charged under the relevant statutory law.
To pervert the course of course of justice, any one of the three acts below must be carried out:
Intimidating or interfering with a case witness, juror or judge;
The disposal, or fabricating, of evidence;
Falsely accusing someone of a crime, resulting in their arrest.
For a charge of perverting the course of justice to stick, it must involve conclusive acts by the defendant. However, a simple omission is insufficient.

This was one of the last photos I shot that would feature the distinctive mustache-shaped distortion that earlier variations of the Samyang 14mm lens perpetrate at certain angles. By autumn, I’d switched camera systems and this lens had a new owner who seemed quite happy with it.

Nicola Sacco (April 22, 1891 – August 23, 1927)
Bartolomeo Vanzetti (June 11, 1888 – August 23, 1927)
Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were two Italian immigrant anarchists living in the United States in the early 20th century. Sacco, a shoemaker by trade, and Vanzetti, a traveling salesman, were dedicated to work, family, and their political beliefs: they dreamed of a more just world, free from the oppression of the wealthy and authoritarian institutions. They were not violent criminals and had never committed murder; their lives reflected civic engagement and the pursuit of social justice.
In 1920, a robbery with murder in Massachusetts led to the arrest of Sacco and Vanzetti. The evidence against them was weak and contradictory, based on dubious testimonies and ethnic prejudice. Many historians — including Howard Zinn and Paul Avrich — argue that they were convicted more for their political beliefs, their Italian ethnicity, and their anarchism than for any concrete evidence of guilt. Other potential perpetrators were ignored or protected by the authorities.
During the seven years of trials and appeals, Sacco and Vanzetti maintained their dignity and steadfastness in their convictions. They were sentenced to the electric chair and executed on August 23, 1927, becoming universal symbols of injustice, political persecution, and discrimination. Their story serves as a reminder that true courage is staying faithful to one’s principles, even in the face of power and death.
I publish this series of figures to awaken awareness, especially among young people, about the injustices carried out by those in power. These individuals gave their lives defending freedom, justice, and the rights of the oppressed. By remembering their courage and sacrifice, I want to inspire reflection and show that the people, united and conscious, are the only force capable of resisting oppression and standing up against abuse and injustice.
It was the first week of school after summer and some knuckle heads do a drive by on a group of teens walking down the street across from Crenshaw High. Two were hit but thankfully no one was killed.
The cowardly perpetrators that shot this young man don't need a reason.... Pay back.... mistaken identity.... wearing the wrong colors.... walking by your self..... walking in a group.....maybe he looked like a rival... so lets just Blast him any way..... what you looking at?..... hey lets not forget the young deaf woman and young deaf man that were gunned down when they were signing one another because the dumb ass thug thought they were throwing up gang signs. Our justice system is too slow, we need to execute these cold blooded murderers, execute them even if their victim lives so they can't contaminate the rest of the planet, OHH I'm sorry did I say something politically incorrect? Ask me if I care.

A Reenactment to be repeated. "The Gaspee Days" events are very important to many of us, whose ancestors were the perpetrators of those historic events !
The next month "IS" "History 101" The events which occurred so many years ago will be recalled, and shown proper homage in the next month. History is a preservation of the happenings that were executed to form the country we have today. Never forget what our forefathers did, and never forget that what they did, gives us the right to speak freely, worship as we wish, and assemble with whom ever we please. GOD Bless America !
After a long and arduous journey through the desert wastelands of Dagroth, we were finally closing in on the perpetrators, or so we believed.
Suddenly, our guide stopped. The scorching winds howled around us, making it difficult to see. We loaded our weapons and stepped from our speeders. At first, we couldn't see or hear much of anything due to the wind. But then, we heard it. The sound of a large, heavy creature walking...
Thud.....Thud.....
We raised our rifles and tried to see, the blowing dust clouding our vision. Only then did we realize that our guide was walking about 10 paces ahead of us before stopping and turning towards us. Behind him, shadowy figures became clearer as they stepped forward, and to the right, a huge creature emerged, with a large cannon mounted on its side.
"You would do well do drop your weapons..."
All too well did we know the mechanized voiced of that bounty hunter...
Our guide had betrayed us. The very one we wanted to capture had now captured us.
Greetings! I primarily built this moc centered around the figs and the neat top section I fitted for the Dewback. I built that part (the Dewback armor thing) a couple years ago, and it just never made it into a moc... until now. After having recently acquired the Bespin planet, I wanted to use those planet halves as large, round boulder things in a sci-fi landscape build. The rest of it just came together, and a quick thanks for the guys in InnovaLUG for the comments and suggestions made for the landscape.
Religious Orders in Ireland: "a litany of shame"
BRIAN KAVANAGH and MARY MINIHANINTERNATIONAL REACTION: THERE WAS widespread international media reaction to the Report of the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse.
In Britain, Guardian columnist and associate editor Madeleine Bunting said the findings of the report represented nothing less than “a crisis for Ireland”.
It was also a crisis for global Catholicism, Bunting wrote. “This could not be worse. The Ryan report is the stuff of nightmares.”
Bunting revealed that the reports findings had presented her with what she described as a private dilemma about her own faith. “For years now, I’ve had an intermittent conversation with an admirable and devout relative: How long can we hang on? When do our fingernails break?”
The Guardian s news coverage included a story under the headline: “Archbishop tries to defuse abuse remarks row”.
Archbishop of Westminster Vincent Nichols had previously told ITV that it took “courage” for members of the clergy to “face the facts from their past”.
In the London Times , the contents of the report were described as a “holocaust of abuse” by religion correspondent Ruth Gledhill.
“Almost beyond belief, in a month in which British MPs were named and shamed about their expenses, there will be no prosecutions of those perpetrators who are still alive, or naming of those who are dead,” she wrote.
Geldhill said the findings of the report represented a “terrible litany of shame” which would have even friends of the church asking whether it was “worth saving at all”. She added: “Torture, rape and beatings. That’s the story of Roman Catholic Ireland in the 20th century.”
Australia’s the Age newspaper noted that some survivors were now living in Australia. “Some Australians know that the ‘Irish hell’ is a universal hell, since orders such as the Christian Brothers and Sisters of Mercy have long been active in this country and others,” the paper’s editorial said.
“Thousands beaten, raped in Irish reform schools” was the Los Angeles Times assessment. The Washington Post reported that Irish counselling services had been “swamped” by callers.
“Child-abuse activists warned Thursday that Ireland failed to learn the lessons from decades of unchecked brutality inside Catholic Church-run schools and still offers poor protection to vulnerable boys and girls,” the paper reported. The Boston Globe opted for “Children were beaten and sexually abused at Catholic schools in Ireland”, while the New York Times coverage lead with: Report details abuses in Irish reformatories”.
Online media also devoted considerable attention to the findings of the report, with the websites of as Die Welt in Germany, Le Monde in France, La Repubblica i n Italy and China Daily all carrying prominent stories.
Images from the launch of the report at the Conrad Hotel in Dublin were broadcast across the world, with items appearing on the BBC, CNN and Euronews.
Cameras filmed angry scenes of victims who were not permitted to attend the press conference.

The smile to me represents two fingers to the perpetrators of the destruction, a way of saying do this it makes no difference, we will survive despite you and not only that, we will carry on the best we can with what little is available to us...
The criminal justice system, is it criminal? Is it justice? Who gets a fair trial, the victim or the perpetrator? Our protagonist says she always gets a fair trial because she dresses nice and always somehow gets recorded into the testimony that her friends call her, "The Yellow Rose Of Texas." Now that's sensitivity.

NYC Residents Band Together to Prevent Eviction of Elderly Bed-Stuy Homeowner.
UPDATE: The Eviction Defense prevented Ms. Ward's scheduled eviction. She and her team have bought a few days to negotiate. Her future is still uncertain.
NEW YORK, NY – Ms. Mary Lee Ward, an 82 year-old African American grandmother who resides at
320 Tompkins Avenue, Bedford-Stuyvesant Brooklyn, is facing a foreclosure related eviction from her
home of 44 years.
The current owner, “768 Dean Inc,” holder of scores of other properties in the neighborhood, has hired
a marshal to remove her from the premises. A NYC based organization plans on being there
too.
The group, calling itself Organizing for Occupation or O4O, vowed to defend Ms. Ward and block
the eviction, even if it means engaging in non-violent civil disobedience in order to force the NYC
marshal to back down.
O4O is calling for folks to gather at 320 Tompkins Ave this Friday morning.
Ms. Ward—like so many in Bed-Stuy— is a victim of deceptive and predatory lending practices
perpetrated by banks and speculators. Her lender, Delta Funding, was shut down by the government
for preying upon elderly people of color in Queens and Brooklyn. The broker at Tarheel Funding lost
his license and was prosecuted for fraud.
But her loan lived on, bought and sold by different financial institutions over the course of ten years.
When the house was sold at auction in 2008, estate speculator “768 Dean Inc” picked it up as lucrative
asset in a changing neighborhood.
The police are asking the public to send in photographs which reveal the identity of the perpetrators of the violence at the G20 summit in Toronto... PHOTO ILLUSTRATION!

Tales from the Crypt: the Official Archives; Foot Soldiers
By Dr. Jon Suter
Readers who grew up in the early 1950s can recapture their childhoods by acquiring Digby Diehl’s “Tales from the Crypt: the Official Archives” (St. Martin’s Press, 1996).
Those who grew up later will also want a copy, but they will never be able to share the earlier generation’s memory of joy at seeing new EC horror titles on racks and wallowing in the gruesomeness perpetrated by EC writers and artists.
The rise, fall, and eventual triumph of EC has been chronicled in many places. American popular culture has been indelibly marked by editors and writers William Gaines and Al Feldstein, artists Jack Davis and Graham Ingels, and numerous others.
Readers unfamiliar with the Gaines saga catch up quickly with this volume’s valuable historical and biographical information. The price is ghastly ($45), however, paper quality and illustrations make it worthwhile.
Other EC reprint materials are available, but this book brings the story up to date with extensive coverage of the popular television series.
Hollywood’s special effects can equal or surpass anything Gaines’ team put on paper, but this reader still retains fondness for letting the imagination add a few hideous details to the final moments of a story.
If there was one dominant theme in these horror titles, it was that evil will bring retribution. Virtue may not be rewarded, but justice will be visited upon the predatory, the abuse, and the corrupt.
Dante’s “Inferno” was mild in comparison to EC’s version of justice. One wonders what punishments Gaines and his team would mete out for transgressors who stalk our world today.
This book is not for small children, particularly because of photographs from the television series.
Even those who won the Russ Cochran reprints of EC titles will want to consider adding this to their collections.
MINIVIEW: “The Foot Soldiers” [Dark Horse]. Quirky and theatrical, well written and drawn, this twist on the overworked superhero theme is entertaining, irritating (for its overuse of puns) and recommended. MV

"The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continued their indiscriminate attacks in the Gaza Strip for the sixteenth consecutive day, with the estimated number of victims rising to 884. During the reporting period, IOF attacks were most ferocious in Gaza City and the northern Gaza Strip, where Palestinian civilians continued to be killed indiscriminately. The killing of children has become a characteristic of the attacks in both these areas. The increasing number of civilian victims, especially children and women, and the continuing use of excessive lethal force against civilians and their property, indicates that IOF is aiming to cause maximum deaths of Palestinian civilians and destruction of their property.
Scenes of death and destruction in the Gaza Strip are now reminiscent of the massacres perpetrated in the Sabra, Shatilla and Qana refugee camps in Lebanon in 1982. The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) has a dedicated team of field workers, whose ongoing investigations indicate that IOF are employing weapons which may be internationally prohibited in order to attack civilians in densely populated area throughout the Gaza Strip. These weapons include bombs that detonate before landing, dispersing flaming shrapnel which is causing intense burning of skin down to the bone, and thus destroys limbs. IOF have also deployed bombs that release dense, toxic smelling white smoke that has caused suffocation and fainting amongst victims."

Judge Dredd, Nexus, Star Wars
By Michael Vance
Judge for yourself.
In a world of corruption, immorality, and violence, he is absolute, unbending LAW. He is judge, jury, and executioner embodied in one hulking man, Judge Joe Dredd.
The quickest way to court death is to throw yourself on the mercy of this court.
Not another grim, dark, and violent vigilante comic book!?!?
Yes and no.
In this world, a murdered President, a corrupt Chief Judge, and his jackbooted thugs – the Ministry of Fear – have perverted the Law they’ve sworn to serve. Computers sentence perpetrators who are shuttled to “Iso blocks”, jails that few ever leave.
And the bad buys win while Dredd naps … for fifty years or so.
Then, Mega-City One becomes a radioactive wasteland, and Dredd promptly kills, sorta, his papa and a whole bunch of rioters.
If it still sounds like more yes than no, persevere. You haven’t met the mime judges yet.
“Judge Dredd” is down, dirty, and … funny?
It is dark, grim, and violent satire of dark, grim, violence. Dredd’s tongue is so firmly stuck in cheek that it near pokes yer eye out.
If that’s not enough, plotting is tight, characterization is abundant, and there’s enough twists on clichés to keep readers hopping.
If that’s also not enough, the art is better than drab and seems to improve each issue. There’s also big guns, bombs, bullets, and clenched teeth!
And if that’s not enough, at least you’ll learn an important lesson.
Judge not lest ye be judged.
Hey! I have a tongue to!
“Judge Dredd” #s 10-12/$1.95 & 25 pages each from DC Comics/words: Andrew Helfer; art: Doug Selogy and others/available in comics shops and by mail.
Also recommended, “Judge Dredd: Legends of the Law”.
MINIVIEW: “Nexus – The Wages of Sin”. Science-fiction, superheroes, satire and slapstick, it remains one of the best romps in comic books.
MINIVIEW TO: “Star Wars – Droids Special”. R2D2 and Threepio in great robotic fun for hardcore fans and young readers.
The pen is mightier than the sword, but not the Kalashnikov apparently.
Appalling massacre in Paris today. My thoughts are with the families of the victims of this despicable crime.
To the perpetrators... you wanted to silence them, but you have made them immortal.

On 1 May 2015, the new Munich Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism opened as a place of education and remembrance documenting and addressing the crimes of the Nazi dictatorship and their origins, manifestations and consequences right up to the present day.
As the place where the NSDAP was founded, Munich is associated more than any other German city with the rise of National Socialism. The former ‚Capital of the Movement’ played a pioneering role in the establishment of the Nazi regime of terror and was home to the Nazi party apparatus.
The Documentation Centre has been built on the site of the former ‚Brown House’, once the headquarters of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (NSDAP). The new construction is designed to be an open and lively forum of information and discussion.
The permanent exhibition documents the history of National Socialism in Munich, the city’s special role in the Nazi system of terror and Munich’s difficulties in confronting its past after 1945. As well as the permanent exhibition, there are also a series of special exhibitions, a learning centre, a varied programme of events and various educational resources.
The central principle underlying the exhibition and the Documentation Centre’s educational concept being to acknowledge, learn about and understand the history of this location. The key questions that the Documentation Centre poses to visitors are: “What does this have to do with me?” and “Why should this still concern me today?”
The initiative to build a Munich Documentation Centre came from committed citizens of Munich. The construction costs, amounting to 28.2 million euros, were shared equally by the City of Munich, the State of Bavaria and the German Federal Government. The State of Bavaria has made the site available, and the City of Munich will bear the operating costs.
Counterpoint at the historical site
In April 2008 the Munich City Council commissioned the department of urban development to advertise a competition for the realisation of a Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism. A specification of the competition was to submit an architectural concept which concerned itself with the special historic significance of the site. The building's architecture and the design of the outdoor area were to mark the fundamental break with the site's history and to the former Nazi buildings in the neighbourhood (today's school of music and theatre, for instance).
Visual connection with surrounding topography
The design by Georg Scheel Wetzel Architekten won the competition. The jury justified its selection of the concept of the Berlin architects from an urban development and design viewpoint as an 'excellent response to the task set with its own unmistakeable identity'. The cube marks the perpetrator site without a reference to the 'Brown House'. The louvered windows enable varied visual connections with the building relics of the Nazi era, so the authentic sites become part of the documentation.
The highest quality of exposed white concrete
In addition to its cubic, compact form the architecture of the new building is strongly determined by the material: the fine, exposed white concrete characterises both the exterior and the interior. The building is in stark contrast with its environment. The facades consist of light, closed surfaces and dark, partly cross-storey window areas.

i just wanted to put this message out there.
"Living free from violence is a human right. Yet millions of women and girls around the world encounter rape, domestic abuse, mutilation and other forms of gender-based violence. Too often no one is held accountable for these crimes. With your help, we can urge governments to hold perpetrators responsible and put an end to this cycle of violence against women"
