A reverie to say the least,
a darkness perpetrated by beliefs.
I envision the entrance, a cold whistle screams adventure.
Entering the mouth of the beast, my calloused hands, my fragile tips,
brushing against the ceiling, caressing and corrupting the structure,
disappearing deeper from destruction.
This grimace upon the face, this terror protruding within the gut,
an agony to be replaced,
once escaped, courage will flourish.
Expanding the vessel,
vomiting to emptiness, given room to proceed,
phosphorescent hues exploding through my dreams.
Reaching the cusp, I gather my strength,
placed upon my scalp, a diadem to show defeat,
unworthy, fruitless scavengers, left to retreat.
Broken, a shattered age, misguided and abused, nothing to lose.
Words ring true, guidance for those envious of power,
wake from endless lies,
enter into an abyss, never to return,
abandoned dark tunnel.

A rare "close-up" photograph of one of the many solar flares on Papyrus, the sun of the Charta-spissa solar system. "Close-up" in this planetary context means that it was taken at a distance of 2:1 million kilometers from Papyrus. The photographic material was commissioned by me and provided by Roby, intergalactic traveller, cake lover, and UFO sightings creator, or should I say perpetrator (whenever she is visiting our solar system she simply can't resist causing some UFO sightings for the records). Some of you might remember Roby, and for more info on her, please see the first comment.
Solar flares on a star like Papyrus might sound like a contradiction – given the material this star and all the planets of Charta-spissa consist of – but, in reality, are not. Due to Papyrus' specific surface properties, its flares are extremely long-lasting, slow, and cold. To the untrained eye, they might even appear permanent. So Roby had all the time in the world to choose the prettiest of the many Papyrus flares and properly set my (I lent it to her) camera and extreme zoom lens ("Why can't I shoot in "P" mode, Silke?" "Because "P" mode is boring, Roby." "But your camera is sooo complicated!" "When you come back, you get an extra Pastel de Nata with lots of Dulce de Leche on top for your efforts, Roby, I promise.").
As for Papyrus' surface properties: This is one of the cardboard "reflectors" I use to help illuminate my macro photos. This one is small and round, and it was part of a small chocolate cardboard box I once got as a present. The, rather thin (1 mm / 0,039 inches), cardboard is laminated on both sides (gold and silver, I believe it's thin foil that is used for lamination), just like cake (or fish packaging) board. I used the gold-coated side which I "coloured" red with the help of the translucent red plastic chocolate box lid and an LED lamp. I also used my small LED Lenser flashlight (set on spotlight), handheld from the right, which created/brought out the web-like golden pattern.
Now I was a little unsure if it still counts as "Paper" if it's laminated (although technically, it still is because it's the main material), but the part in focus, the "flares", are pure paper: two small frays on the cardboard's edge that slightly protrude from it. So I think (hope) my photo is within the theme's requirements. The bigger of the two "flares" is 2 mm / 0,078 inches long. It's a single shot taken with the Laowa Ultra Macro lens at a little less than 2:1 magnification.
I'll catch up with you later.
HMM, Everyone!
Purpur ist in der Katholischen Kirche die Farbe für Buße und ReueAbuse - Criticism in Art at the Cologne Cathedral With his new installation of 333 children figures in front of the Cologne Cathedral, the artist Dennis Josef Meseg draws attention to the abuse victims of the Catholic Church.
The artist Dennis Josef Meseg set them up. With the installation "Shattered Souls... in a Sea of Silence" he wants to draw attention to the numerous allegations of abuse against the Catholic Church.
The figures symbolize abused children's silent call for justice: "My installation should make both the victims of abuse and the perpetrators feel seen," artist Meseg tells WDR.
Each individual mannequin is wrapped in colored ribbon. The color white is said to represent the innocence of children. Purple is the color of repentance and contrition in the Catholic Church.
"My sweetest poison, my entertainer
I'm like the canvas
You're like my painter
You exploit me, my perpetrator
You paranoy me, my troublemaker
Gimme my fix now
Shakin' and achin'
Feels like I'm drowning in the coral sea
Gimme my fix now
My earth is 'quaking
I just wanna fall down to my knees
'Cause you're my cocaine
Addicted to you, I just wanna breathe you in
Inseparable like rock and roll and Kurt Cobain
Baby, you're my rock and roll and Kurt Cobain
(oh, whoa, oh, oh)
You are my Kurt Cobain (oh, whoa, oh, oh)
You are my everything (oh, whoa, oh, oh)
You could be my Kurt Cobain
You are my everything (oh, whoa, oh, oh)
You are my Kurt Cobain
You are my everything." - Bibi Bourelly ♫
Male Dartford Warbler on gorse. A short pause in a song 'battle' with a neighbouring male on the other side of the path.
Nothing else (that I have ever heard) sounds the same. As soon as I hear that scratchy song I am scanning the tops of the gorse and heather for the perpetrator with eager anticipation.
I think it is a bit sad that this bird got its name because the first identified specimen happened to have been shot in Dartford. In those days naturalists thought nothing of shooting and stuffing anything that moved. Thank goodness for decent cameras!

The Srebrenica massacre, also known as the Srebrenica genocide[7] (Bosnian: Masakr u Srebrenici; Genocid u Srebrenici), was the July 1995 massacre[8] of more than 8,000[1][9] Bosniaks, mainly men and boys, in and around the town of Srebrenica during the Bosnian War.
The killings were perpetrated by units of the Bosnian Serb Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) under the command of Ratko Mladić. The Scorpions, a paramilitary unit from Serbia, who had been part of the Serbian Interior Ministry until 1991, also participated in the massacre.[6][10] In April 1993 the United Nations (UN) had declared the besieged enclave of Srebrenica—in the Drina Valley of northeastern Bosnia—a "safe area" under UN protection. However, the UN failed to both demilitarise the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ARBiH) within Srebrenica and force the withdrawal of the VRS surrounding Srebrenica.[11] UNPROFOR's 370[12] Dutchbat soldiers in Srebrenica did not prevent the town's capture by the VRS—nor the subsequent massacre.

ENG: The Bode Museum, opened in 1904 as the Kaiser Friedrich Museum, is part of the Museum Island ensemble in Berlin and thus a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It houses the Sculpture Collection, the Museum of Byzantine Art and the Numismatic Collection. It was reopened on 17 October 2006 after almost six years of renovation and opened to the public on 19 October of the same year.
The Bode-Museum became doubtfully well-known during the night of 27 March 2017, when a "Big Maple Leaf Gold Coin" weighing around 100 kg was stolen from the exhibition. This loan from a private owner had a face value of around 1.0 million Canadian dollars, the material value at the time of the crime was around 3.8 million euros. The gold coin and the perpetrators have since disappeared and the coin was most likely melted down.

This is not the best photo I have ever taken but is posted as a thought for all those injured or slain in the terrorist act perpetrated in Westminster yesterday.
An anomaly among the other revenants, Oasis was not sent back to avenge himself. The perpetrator of a family murder-suicide, Oasis was sent back to redeem his failure, punishment for taking the easy way out of his mistakes. The consciousness of his murdered family haunt him, bound to him by the armor he cannot remove.
Oh boy. This fellow. Worked on him for far longer than I had intended but I'd say it was worth it. Inspired by Anubis from Egyptian mythology, he's been quite fun to design. His colors are a fun test of my ability to work *not* in black (I swear it DOES happen), and his inspiration has its own requirements.
Still, it's been a while of working on him, so I'm glad to have him done. Fortunately my next MOC is almost done already, all I need is a custom head and one more old silver Lewa Nuva katana. One of these is clearly going to be far more difficult than the other, but believe me both will happen.
Hope you enjoyed. See you later.
The victims of the current atrocities are and were human beings in the first place. The assumption underlying the atrocities is that they are not. This assumption, and the atrocious act itself, places the perpetrator firmly in the camp of barbarism. Barbaric deeds undermine the words used for the defense of one's postulated just cause. The result is traumatic for generations to come, victims and perpetrators. Fuji X-Pro3.

As the chair swivels
As the spinning wheel spins
As the daffodils bloom,
my heart churns and burns
with prayers for the world
to refrain from the gloom
and return
to the new beginnings of Spring.
One look at the front page of our paper this morning,
and I've thought of nothing else but the devastation
occurring in this horrific, senseless war, perpetrated
by one evil man.
What can we do?
oh Dear God,
please help.
Being at the output end of the public media (and some of them well-controlled), we may ask ourselves whether we are witnessing the full horror. However, what we do see is surely enough to be appalled by the atrocities, and there have been demonstrations in many places. Perpetrators have a tendency of not listening to demonstrators. A court of law is a more serious matter. But it is important to be clear about what one is asking for. "Genocide" is different from "War Crimes" or "Crimes against Humanity". In fact, the latter has a legal definition that is much more conducive to leading to a clear verdict than the first.

Cui bono? (/kwiː ˈboʊnoʊ/), literally "to whom is it a benefit?", is a Latin phrase about identifying crime suspects. It expresses the view that crimes are oftentimes committed to benefit their perpetrators, especially financially. Which party benefits may not be obvious, and there may be a scapegoat. -- Wikipedia
We all yearn for love
plead and hope
pray and seek
while the world
prefers to arm itself
attack and fight
seeking to destroy
impaling our youth
upon the barbed divide
of sanctimonious greed
cushioned life from it's roots
unarticulated with artificiality
yet,
the trodden and the poor...
outrun a swine of any land
show me the Soul,
the sunlight of the living,
a glance,
a smile,
the break in the clouds of poverty
shading the fossilised fools -
wealth brings with it responsibility
which nobody is ever capable of handing
misspent adulthood at the expense of our youth
wretched minds wrecking the innocent kind
we need not click and search for want of a better wor(l)d
love is never far away
human spirit, if crushed will haunt the perpetrators
for human spirit is of a value
so great beyond our results-driven present
that win or lose,
the spirit should not be underestimated

A well-known online dictionary says this: "in the international law of human rights, impunity is failure to bring perpetrators of human rights violations to justice and, as such, itself constitutes a denial of the victims' right to justice and redress. Impunity is especially common in countries which lack the tradition of rule of law, or suffer from pervasive corruption, or contain entrenched systems of patronage, or where the judiciary is weak or members of the security forces are protected by special jurisdictions or immunities. Impunity is sometimes considered a form of denialism of historical crimes." Gross impunity is the attitude a number of political leaders of democratic countries show when referring to the conflicts in Gaza and the Ukraine - turning victims into perpetrators and aggressors into victims. Yes, this innocent looking Wood Pigeon is the prime suspect in the “Who keeps pooping on the patio” investigation 😂
The investigation is ongoing (and you might not have eaten) so I can’t share any evidence here but I can say the perpetrator(s) leave a pile of poop about the size of a small molehill.
I’ve ruled out the Sparrows and Bluetits (for obvious reasons) but have a surveillance team watching the Magpies and Jackdaws 🤔
This bird used to be in huge numbers many years ago.
I dare say they fueled early New Zealanders during colonisation by Maori and European peoples,
Fact, some still see them as nothing more than a resource to harvest for their own selfish reasons.
Years ago as a young fellow, I was a ranger with the then Wildlife service of internal affairs dept.
While checking on an area at Puketi I came across a person with several Pigeons in a pikau ( Hessian sack split crosswise on one side only to be thrown over a horse ).
I confiscated his illegal bounty plus his shotgun and served him with an infringement notice amidst swearing and threats of violence.
Two weeks later a fellow officer along with a Forestry ranger duplicated the same scenario, with the same person, same situation.
The offender tried to swing past the two men on his horse.
My colleague grabbed the reigns to stop the offender escaping with the result being he had his hand blown off by a shotgun round..
Subsequent police action dealt with the offender, which shows the length people will go to perpetrate what they consider "their" rights.... Yea right, a letter or permit from God perhaps

Gravensteen is a medieval castle located at Ghent, East Flanders in Belgium. The castle dates from 1180 and was the residence of the Counts of Flanders until 1353. It was subsequently re-purposed as a prison/courthouse and, in its subterranean dungeons, became a house of torture and injustice. While these activities were later abandoned in the ensuing centuries, the site never lost the taint of the horrors that once perpetrated within its walls.
By the end of the 1800's, the structure had become unsound. The City of Ghent, realizing the architectural and historical importance of the castle, began a major restoration in the Gothic style under architect Joseph de Waele (1845-1920). Today, the site retains a moat on three sides. It is open to the public and is one of the most stunning historic castles remaining in the world.

During the September 11 attacks of 2001, 2,977 people were killed (excluding the 19 hijackers) and more than 6,000 others were injured. The immediate deaths included 265 on the four planes (including the terrorists), 2,606 in the World Trade Center and in the surrounding area, and 125 at the Pentagon. The attacks were the deadliest terrorist act in world history, and the most devastating foreign attack on United States soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
Most of those who perished were civilians except for 343 firefighters and 71 law enforcement officers who died in the World Trade Center and on the ground in New York City, and another law enforcement officer who died when United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, 55 military personnel who died at the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia, and the 19 terrorists who died on board the four aircraft. Overall, 2,605 U.S. citizens, including 2,135 civilians, died in the attacks, while an additional 372 non-U.S. citizens (excluding the 19 perpetrators) also perished, which represented about 12% of the total. More than 90 countries lost citizens in the attacks, including the United Kingdom (67 deaths), the Dominican Republic (47 deaths), and India (41 deaths).
2,974 victims were confirmed to have died in the initial attacks. In 2007, the New York City medical examiner's office began to add people who died of illnesses caused by exposure to dust from the site to the official death toll. The first such victim was a woman, a civil rights lawyer, who had died from a chronic lung condition in February 2002. In September 2009, the office added a man who died in October 2008, and in 2011, a male accountant who had died in December 2010.This raises the number of victims at the World Trade Center site to 2,753, and the overall 9/11 death toll to 2,996.
As of August 2013, medical authorities concluded that 1,140 people who worked, lived, or studied in Lower Manhattan at the time of the attack have been diagnosed with cancer as a result of "exposure to toxins at Ground Zero". It has been reported that over 1,400 9/11 rescue workers who responded to the scene in the days and months after the attacks have since died] At least 11 pregnancies were lost as a result of 9/11. Neither the FBI or New York City officially recorded the casualties of the 9/11 attacks in their crime statistics for 2001, with the FBI stating in a disclaimer that "the number of deaths is so great that combining it with the traditional crime statistics will have an outlier effect that falsely skews all types of measurements in the program's analyses."

Unfortunately, there are still cops in schools in my city. Can you imagine the joy it would bring to our youth who have so much potential to not have to be terrorized by cops in their school on their way to the library to study or their next class? After months of protests, Chicago youth gave up one of their last days of the summer to go down to the Chicago Public Schools Headquarters in ninety degree heat for about seven hours total to follow the Board of Ed hearing on this issue yesterday and the $33Million they spend every year instead of hiring nurses, librarians, counselors, social workers, art and music teachers. (By the way, the Board of Ed voting members are hand picked by the mayor so it's basically a dog and pony show version of democracy).
Our mayor has spent the summer not getting schools safe for in person learning but instead on rebranding cops in schools as "School resource officers" and taking about them as if they had a background in social work and trauma (instead of causing the trauma or just hiring the dang social workers). She's also spent a lot of time hiding the data from voting local school councils so that they didn't have access to the facts of how many incidents of aggression towards students cops have perpetrated and how many of these students were students of color.
I've been to several protests against cops in schools and heard from kids who have been terrorized and traumatized and who have testified to their principals and local school councils and submitted statements to the Board of Ed, all a very painful procedure to experience reliving this. And, when you ask students to do just that and then you ignore them and say cops in schools are just fine, you take all this potential joy and optimism in future, and you kill it. You just kill this joy. And I don't know the answer of how you get through this sort of devastating blow one after the other and live through another police shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin (who apparently now wasn't allowed to live because he had a knife somewhere in his car) whereas the gun wielding Kyle Rittenhouse who literally murdered two protestors was not only allowed to live but was congratulated by cops....well, what an insane world. If you can't see the injustice that is so horrific and so blaringly obvious at this point, you really are trying hard not to pay attention and you are on the wrong side of history.
The world is meant for the young. Let's leave them with some world left.

True Confessions: "I was just an innocent victim trying to have some fun!"
"Umm go...no wait! Stop! No, go with caution...wait! Staaaahhhhpppp!" Mildred was trying to teach her sixteen year-old boy to drive.
The pimply-faced kid behind the wheel says to his mom, who has her head on the dash and buried in her hands, "What's going on over there?"
She lifts her head and looks to her right, "I don't know."
And little did they know, or could they know that taking place right before their eyes was a grievous, viscous act. (Oh my!) Yes, because, at that very moment... (key the suspenseful organ music) a comp-stomped victim was taking his revenge.
The whole, ugly affair started earlier that evening:
"Well, I was just out trying to snap a few keepsakes, you know, to show the grandkids someday..."
Little did he know that this had happened moments earlier, perpetrated by this man. In a rage, this man the comp-stompee, roamed the streets looking for anyone, anyone at all, to inflict his exacting revenge upon.
"Ya, so like I was saying, I was just minding my own business, setting up my tripod, you know, to take a photo under the bridge. Besides, I once took Little Billie with me to an afternoon open mic at Where Heads Meet and he really liked it. Well, all of a sudden...
You guessed it, this happened. It is a sad, sad world we live in... sad, sad world...
*Oh, of note: The police are actively looking for this man, apparently as an eye-witness to the whole gruesome affair.

I've had the experience of having an unaware muskrat obliviously eating a skunk cabbage leaf literally between my feet on the banks of a wetland. I dared not move...and the only photos of the encounter with that muskrat were eclipsed by the lush green grass I was standing in.
This is the first time, however that the muskrat came out of the water (oblivious again...hence the many unhappy circumstances perpetrated that resulted in their hides being used for warm clothing during their species' less halcyon days) and posed for me.
Below is a link to a video of 'Ondatra zibethicus' enjoying that quiet moment on the creek.

OK Porshie Beetle has just submitted his official report back to me with regard to his official inquiry into the cheese heist case in Alpbachtal perpetrated by the Meeces. He's a good lad I must say - very efficiently and beautifully presented, commensurate with his high levels of cognitive ability and educational standard. It's even worse than I had imagined though! The total size of the haul equates to 3.7 Gazillion Kilos of the World's Finest Cheeses!
DHL Logistics delivered this massive haul as promised to Brushtail's headquarters at 1 Rodent Way, The Skirting-Board, Vienna - but they were slightly suspicious as to the ownership of the goods. When confronted with this awkward question, Brushtail simply mumbled something about it not really being theft - it should really be regarded simply as an ownership relocation transfer and re-assignment update! Neat eh? The delivery team then had no choice but to accept this insufficiently convincing explanation, and departed the scene shaking their heads in disbelief!
Porshie Beetle, having completed his mission successfully, then departed the scene as fast as his little legs could carry him, and went straight home to his little abode under the stone to check his on-line banking banking account, to see if his account had been credited yet with Jessie's payment for his services. He noticed that the agreed amount was already shown on the account balance, but the bank charges amounted to actually more than his payment. He banks with an outfit called Beetle Banking Basel - an outfit whose majority shareholder is one Brushtail Mousie. So no surprises there then!
A field of honor, forever.
On September 11th, 2001, one of the worst aviation disasters and terrorist attacks on the United States took place. Four aircraft were hijacked with the intent of wreaking havoc on the country.
On one of the four hijacked aircraft, United Airlines Flight #93, the passengers and crew retaliated against their captors and prevented it from reaching its intended target (purportedly being the United Stated Capitol). Their bravery and sacrifice not only prevented further catastrophic loss of life, but gave investigators vital information into the perpetrators of the attack.
An ordinary field to an uninformed onlooker, this field outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania, is their final resting place. The Boulder at the center of the frame marks the impact point.
I highly recommend a visit to the Flight 93 National Memorial. A sombering but educational experience.

I've been called many things
my writings commented with brazen
and spiteful words falling from a cloudless sky
with which the Sun continues to emblazon
my every day of fight and indelible hope;
a ray of warmth is indomitable without cause
to ostentation, for a nature lover is true
and humble, and never given to conceit or applause
how dare any anonymous being enter such a place
their accusations fly in the face of our common good
for appearances deceive, indeed a "poor" surface
never devalued a continuing history frequently misunderstood
a snap of embittered retortion from one
may glare from their mirror of enmity
though "quite poor" may my every effort be
I'm at least open without need for the cloak of anonymity
that some prefer to cowardly hide behind
criticism and impertinence; dwelling unknown,
but frequently ascribed to persons of low self-esteem
their cruel diatribes are vexing, yes, such hurt one cannot postpone
yet, vicious self-opinionated jabs open the vestibule
to the life of the bitterest pig-swilling kind
the soul who takes great joy in crucifying others
whilst never offering anything original from their life unassigned
they delve into sensitive creations of surviving spirit
running amok with their litigious demons
discharging unfriendly fire at will, life is cheap!
a pallescent legacy from the victims whose heart it summons
flush now these vile beings stealing our recovery way
my shortcomings are obvious with cards on the ground table still standing
no disguise no pretence, just another "poor" human being
for the perpetrator of unhappiness will forever rue the day of such branding.

for VT Strewth :) the source of bitterness.
I shall not be undermined or have my flickr diary of poem-photo-poem dragged through the mud by some non-entity on here.
VT Ruth shows how cowardly it is for "a flickr member" to wilfully go about shooting holes through any and everyone's prized work under the guise of anonymity. It is one thing to be critical of work, but quite another thing to be so personal and derogatory that it becomes libel. A lesson is be careful, be sensible, be clean, and be aware!!

Germany, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Alps, Zugspitze, summer view from the Zugspitz plateau over the Wetterstein mountain range. The Zugspitze, rises eleven kim southwest of Garmisch-Patenkirchen, at 2,962 mtr, with the Summit cross, above sea level it is the highest mountain of Germany & the highest peak of the Wetterstein mountain range of the Northern Limestone Alps at the border to Austria.
On good days you can see around 400 peaks from the Zugspitze 250 km away the Feldberg in the Black Forest, Hochkönig & Watzmann in the Berchtesgaden Alps, Großglockner & Wildspitze in Austria, the Marmolada also the highest mountain in the Dolomites.
No other German summit that is so easily accessible can keep up with this 360-degree panorama. You can often see the magic mountain not only from the six holiday areas of the Upper Bavarian Zugspitz region, with luck & good weather conditions one can see it from Munich.
Since 1851 there has been the first ca. 4,7 mtr tall summit cross on the top of the Zugspitze. The driving force behind the erection of a cross on the summit was the priest, Christoph Ott. After 37 years the cross had to be taken down after suffering numerous lightning strikes & its support brackets were also badly damaged. In the winter of 1881–1882 it was therefore brought down into the valley & repaired, on August 1882 the cross was installed back on the top. Because of a lodge was built on original side on the West Summit, the team positioned the cross on the East Summit. There it remained for about 111 years, until it was removed again in 1993.
This time the damage was not only caused by the weather, but also by American soldiers at the end of the Second World War, they used the cross as target practice after 1945, the summit cross could no longer be repaired & a 4,88 mtr tall true-to-original replica was made.
After two months the rack railway carried the new cross in October to the Zugspitzplatt, from where it was flown to the summit by helicopter, the new cross has a height of 4.88 metres. It was renovated & regilded in 2009 for 15,000 €, since April 2009, the cross stood once again on the East Summit.
Flatlanders like myself do no longer have to train their legs to visit the Zugspitze: the cog railway & cable cars on the German side can bring 6,000 people up to the top every day, including prams, wheelchairs & boxes for the lapdogs. There are also other passengers on a cable car on the Austrian side, plus the hikers who ascend on one of the four usual routes.
For the average tourists, a short, slightly exposed path on the east summit leads to the summit cross. Despite its short length, it requires concentration, the small path & the ladder anchored in the rock wall to the summit is very busy & crowded at certain times. The greasy rock is secured with a handhold steel ropes, to be alone on the summit is at certain times, for example early in the morning before the first cable car arrives at the Munich house.
👉 The ascent to the summit cross is easy for "selfie fans / chasers" & carries too many tourists on the Zugspitze. The shady side of the summit cross mass tourism has as a result that the shaft of the cross is full of stickers brought with them ... the good thing is that there is no way for the so-called love locks to attach them. In downright breakneck exercises, the last remaining free spots are filled in order to get as close as possible to the golden ball, even if it can hardly be read up there. Because there is no longer any space further down for round, square or rectangular emblems, of course, the other stickers are not pasted over, ... so much consideration has to be given.
The stickers cannot be easily removed. If they were removed, the cross, which is covered with delicate gold leafs, would be damaged. The damage could only be repaired with high costs & great logistical effort, there are also no technical solutions to ward off such attacks. Even if a webcam is aimed at the summit cross - the perpetrators will not be deterred.
The time when I shot the picture the cross was cleaned shortly before.
👉 In 2012 a Muslim prayer house was built on the summit, at the same time, a photo of the summit without the summit cross was published in the new advertising brochure.
The selection of images was criticized by the Bavarian churches as a denial of the religious roots of the Bavarian/Austrian culture & country & a misplaced ingratiation to the Muslim visitors.

Montségur was one of the last strongholds of the Cathars, a spiritual movement in medieval Europe between the 12th and 14th centuries, considered heretic by the Catholic Church. The Siege of Montségur was a nine-month siege of the Cathar-held Fortress of Montségur by 10,000 French royal troops starting in May 1243. In March 1244, the Cathars finally surrendered and approximately 244 were burned en masse in a bonfire at the foot of the pog (mountain) when they refused to renounce their faith. The Inquisitors kept faithful accounts and included the names of many, who are remembered every year on the anniversary of the massacre on March 16. The Albigensian Crusade or the Cathar Crusade (1209–1229) was a 20-year military campaign initiated by Pope Innocent III to eliminate Catharism in southern France. From 1209 to 1215, the Crusaders experienced great success, capturing Cathar lands and perpetrating acts of extreme violence, often against civilians. From 1215 to 1225, a series of revolts caused many of the lands to be lost. A renewed crusade resulted in the recapturing of the territory and effectively drove Catharism underground by 1244. The Albigensian Crusade is considered by many historians to be an act of genocide against the Cathars. The photo is a panorama stitched from 6 vertical frames.

(Aside: The battle of the Little Bighorn River on 25/26 June 1876 was a decisive victory for the native Americans. Lt. Col. Custer had been leading five companies of the 7th Cavalry in an attack against an encampment of native Americans, expecting to be able to perpetrate a massacre without any own losses.
This expectation was unfounded. Outnumbered 5:1 by Lakota, Cheyenne and Arapaho warriors, Custer's men were administered a liberal dose of their own medicine, leaving 268 dead (including Custer) and 50 wounded.
But this was not here, but further north, in Montana)
The Bighorn River has the distinction of having two names. The part up to and including Wind River Canyon is the called Wind River, while after the canyon it's called Bighorn River. Both parts were named independently by different people who didn't realise that it was one and the same.

Story behind this shoot:
I did the colour versions of this shoot a few years ago. They went viral and were widely acclaimed as impactful and thought provoking after being picked up by a famous Black American influencer on Instagram. The series of 6 of these shots had before this been accepted for a UK Nationwide touring exhibition - to be pulled at the last minute by those in charge as it was considered it may be too "distressing for school children" to see these (even though it was a normal exhibition for all the public who would mainly be adults anyway).
Seeing the usual images of black people suffering in chains in the schoolbooks is apparently okay, but it is not good for kids to see things differently, or to perish the thought to make the next generation actually have to THINK and be impacted ... and if they are distressed for a little while by the reality then so be it, as that's how change happens by hearts and minds being impacted as slavery and racism and inequality based on race is distressing. Whatever the race of the perpetrator and victim.
I - and my two awesome models here PJ Walker and Horace Silver - am proud that these images are considered powerful enough to impact young minds. And maybe a few old ones.

HRF Files Criminal Complaint in Italy Against IDF Soldier Israel Yitzhki for War Crimes, Crimes Against Humanity, and Genocide
Brussels / Rome – 15 December 2025:
The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) has filed a criminal complaint before the Italian judicial authorities against Israeli soldier Israel Yitzhki, a member of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), for his alleged involvement in war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts of genocide committed during Israel’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip.
The complaint was submitted to the Procura della Repubblica on the basis of universal jurisdiction, following confirmation that Yitzhki is currently present on Italian territory. Under international and Italian law, Italy is legally obliged to investigate and prosecute individuals suspected of grave international crimes when they are found on its soil.
Why Italy Has a Duty to Act
Italy is a State Party to the Geneva Conventions of 1949, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, and the UN Convention Against Torture. These instruments impose a clear obligation on States to search for, investigate, and prosecute individuals suspected of grave breaches of international humanitarian law, regardless of nationality or where the crimes were committed.
The complaint explicitly invokes:
* Article 146 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which establishes mandatory universal jurisdiction over grave breaches;
* Article 5(2) of the Convention Against Torture, requiring prosecution when a suspect is present and not extradited;
* The principle of aut dedere aut judicare — extradite or prosecute.
As the filing makes clear, States cannot lawfully become safe havens for suspected perpetrators of international crimes.
The Context: Gaza as a Crime Scene
The complaint situates Yitzhki’s actions within the broader context of Israel’s campaign in Gaza, which UN bodies have repeatedly characterized as involving systematic violations of international law.
* Over 70,000 Palestinians have been killed, including more than 20,000 children;
* More than 170,000 people have been injured;
* 92% of homes, 88% of schools, 81% of roads, and 80% of commercial infrastructure have been destroyed or damaged;
* Hundreds of civilians have died from starvation and malnutrition, caused by the deliberate obstruction of food and humanitarian aid.
UN agencies, the International Court of Justice, and the International Criminal Court have all confirmed the seriousness of these crimes. Arrest warrants have already been issued by the ICC against Israeli leaders Benjamin Netanyahu (b. 1949) and Yoav Gallant (b. 1958) for crimes against humanity.
Alleged Crimes by Israel Yitzhki
According to HRF’s investigative findings, Israel Yitzhki served in the 432nd Battalion of the Givati Brigade and participated in operations involving:
* Extensive destruction of civilian property without military necessity;
* Attacks on undefended towns, residential buildings, and civilian objects;
* Arson and controlled demolitions of homes and shelters;
* Occupation and destruction of schools used as civilian refuges;
* Unlawful detention and humiliating treatment of Palestinian civilians, including the publication of images showing detainees blindfolded, handcuffed, and kneeling.
The complaint argues that these acts constitute war crimes under Article 8 of the Rome Statute, including:
* destruction of property not justified by military necessity;
* attacks against civilian objects;
* illegal detention of protected persons;
* outrages upon personal dignity and degrading treatment;
* and, potentially, torture and inhuman treatment.
Crimes Against Humanity and Genocide
Beyond individual war crimes, the filing asserts that Yitzhki’s actions may also qualify as crimes against humanity under Article 7 of the Rome Statute, including extermination, unlawful imprisonment, torture, and other inhumane acts committed as part of a widespread and systematic attack against a civilian population.
Crucially, the complaint also addresses genocide. It argues that the systematic destruction of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure — homes, schools, water systems, healthcare facilities — amounts to:
* causing serious bodily and mental harm; and
* deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about the physical destruction of the Palestinian population, in whole or in part.
These conclusions align with findings issued in September 2025 by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry, which determined that Israeli authorities are committing genocide in Gaza.
Request for Urgent Precautionary Measures
Given the gravity of the allegations and the risk that Yitzhki may leave Italy, HRF has requested that the Italian authorities consider urgent precautionary measures, including:
* seizure of passports and travel documents;
* preservation of digital evidence.
The filing also formally requests notification of any prosecutorial decisions, including extensions of investigations or potential dismissal, in accordance with Italian criminal procedure.
Abou Jahjah: No Safe Haven in Europe
This filing is part of HRF’s broader strategy to ensure that no European country becomes a refuge for perpetrators of atrocities committed in Gaza.
"International law is meaningless if it stops at borders", HRF General Director Dyab Abou Jahjah (b. 1971) stated.
"When those suspected of war crimes and genocide enter Europe, States must choose between impunity and justice. There is no third option", he added.
The Hind Rajab Foundation will continue to pursue accountability across jurisdictions until those responsible for crimes in Gaza — perpetrators, accomplices, and inciters alike — are brought before competent courts.

HRF Seeks Arrest of Israeli Soldier in Spain Over the Destruction of Beit Hanoun
Barcelona / Brussels – 3 December 2025:
The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) has filed a criminal complaint in Spain against Israeli soldier Benayau Nahum for his alleged responsibility in genocide and serious war crimes committed during Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip, particularly in the northern town of Beit Hanoun.
The complaint was submitted after confirming that the suspect was present on Spanish territory, triggering Spain’s obligations under international law to investigate and prosecute grave international crimes. HRF has formally requested the urgent arrest of the suspect to prevent his departure and to ensure accountability.
The Accused and His Military Unit
Benayau Nahum served as a soldier in the 97th Netzah Yehuda Battalion of the 900th Kfir Brigade. This unit has a long record of serious human rights violations, including:
* The killing of unarmed civilians,
* Abuse and torture of detainees,
* And the systematic destruction of Palestinian property.
The battalion has previously been implicated in internationally condemned cases and has repeatedly operated in occupied Palestinian territory with near-total impunity.
*** [ [Personal note: I can confirm this based on what I personally saw during my 2007-2011 UN-affiliated service in the Occupied West Bank. The worst criminal Israeli IDF "military" units by far are certainly the Kfir Brigade and the Nahal of the Nahal brigade.
These two units in particular - their history and all their members ought to be intensively investigated all the way back to 1967 and beyond. Consisting of predominantly jewish fundamentalists, religious zealots, zionists, criminals, kahanists, no-goods and madmen they certainly would be akin to any former member of the Nazi Waffen-SS in my eyes.
You have to be quite oblivious to history if you cannot see the similarities between Nazi Germany and these Israeli paramilitary / military groups represented by the Kfir, the Gadna and the Nahal. Israel is through and through a jewish supremacist militaristic fascist society.] ] ***
Its presence in Gaza formed part of Israel’s large-scale ground operations in the north of the Strip.
Destruction of Beit Hanoun
Between late 2024 and early 2025, Beit Hanoun was subjected to near-total destruction as part of a broader military strategy aimed at emptying northern Gaza of its population. Entire neighborhoods were set on fire, leveled by heavy machinery, and erased from the map.
The evidence in HRF’s possession places Benayau Nahum directly on the ground during these operations. It shows his participation in systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure, including homes and public buildings, at a time when Beit Hanoun was already largely depopulated and defenseless.
The scale of destruction in northern Gaza during this period rendered vast areas uninhabitable and made return impossible for most of the displaced population.
Legal Qualification of the Crimes
The complaint accuses Benayau Nahum of:
* Genocide, for contributing to conditions of life calculated to bring about the physical destruction of part of the Palestinian population;
* War crimes, including:
- Extensive destruction of civilian property not justified by military necessity;
- Attacks against civilian buildings and undefended towns;
- Participation in the forcible displacement of a protected civilian population.
Under international humanitarian law, civilian objects are strictly protected. The large-scale, methodical destruction documented in Beit Hanoun cannot be justified by any lawful military objective.
Spain’s Obligation to Act
Spain is bound by international law, including the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute, to either prosecute or extradite individuals suspected of committing genocide and war crimes when they are found on its territory.
Given the presence of the suspect in Spain and the lack of genuine proceedings elsewhere, HRF has requested:
* The opening of a criminal investigation;
* The immediate detention of the suspect;
* And the adoption of urgent measures to prevent his escape.
Breaking the Wall of Impunity
This complaint is part of HRF’s broader effort to dismantle the system of impunity protecting perpetrators of crimes against the Palestinian people. It sends a clear message that:
Participation in genocide and war crimes carries personal criminal responsibility, wherever the perpetrator may attempt to hide.
HRF continues to pursue similar cases across multiple jurisdictions and will not relent until justice is served.

Why Bar Associations Must Act: The Dutch Debate on Complicity and the Responsibility of Lawyers in International Crimes
3 November 2025:
On 2 December, the Dutch Bar Association (NOvA) [Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten] will hold an extraordinary assembly to address a question that is rapidly becoming unavoidable across the global legal profession:
What is the responsibility of lawyers when their work intersects with a state committing international crimes?
The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) welcomes the participation of its co-founder, Haroon Raza, a criminal defence attorney with more than twenty years of experience, in this meeting. Mr. Raza's contribution focuses on a reality many in the profession have long avoided confronting — that legal advice, corporate structuring, and financial facilitation can play a direct role in sustaining Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.
The Professional Environment: A Legal System Intertwined with Global Capital
The Netherlands stands at the centre of a dense network of financial and corporate structures. Tens of billions of euros connected to Israeli entities — including companies tied to the military, surveillance, technological development, and settlement expansion [ *** Personal note: For instance American Airbnb and Dutch Booking.com - just to mention a few! *** ] — flow through Dutch holding companies, investment funds, and advisory firms.
Lawyers are involved at every step: drafting corporate agreements, approving investments, advising on compliance, structuring acquisitions, and legitimising transactions.
When these structures are linked to a state perpetrating mass killing, starvation, forced displacement, and systematic destruction of civilian life, the role of the legal profession must be examined with honesty rather than ritualised neutrality.
Motion 3: An Attempt to Define Professional Boundaries
At the centre of the upcoming assembly is Motion 3, a proposal seeking to address precisely this challenge. The motion calls for the establishment of an independent committee within the Dutch Bar Association to evaluate the responsibilities of lawyers involved in high-risk transactions — particularly those connected to situations where there is a serious risk of contributing to war crimes, crimes against humanity, apartheid, or genocide.
Its purpose is straightforward:
* to articulate clear due-diligence requirements in high-risk contexts,
* to identify warning signs of potential complicity,
* to define professional standards of conduct, and
* to provide guidance on when lawyers must decline or withdraw from engagements.
Motion 3 is not a political statement. It is an attempt to bring the profession’s established principles — independence, integrity, and the duty to avoid unlawful conduct — into alignment with the realities of modern global practice. Comparable standards already exist for sanctions regimes, anti-money-laundering responsibilities, and other areas where legal services intersect with international harm.
The question is why similar principles have not yet been applied to Israel’s actions in Gaza, despite the scale and severity of the crimes.
A Profession Confronted With Its Own Infrastructure
Large law firms and corporate practices in major financial centres — London, New York, Paris, Frankfurt, Singapore, Dubai, Toronto — routinely advise clients with direct or indirect links to Israeli institutions, military industries, and settlement enterprises.
[ *** Personal note: A huge amount of these settlements are funded directly from the USA and needs to be examined most thoroughly - Example: The US 501(c) tax-exempted Hebron Fund ! Like WTF!? ]
In many cases, risk assessments are superficial or absent. The assumption that “legal advice is neutral” has become a shield against accountability.
This assumption is no longer tenable.
Speaking ahead of the assembly, Mr. Raza addressed the profession with unusual clarity:
"When a legal opinion, a contract, or a corporate structure helps sustain a system committing genocide, the lawyer involved cannot hide behind claims of neutrality. Our profession must recognise that routine legal work can become a vehicle for atrocity. Motion 3 is about safeguarding the integrity of the law — and ensuring we do not enable Israel’s crimes in Gaza."
His statement reflects a broader shift: lawyers are beginning to acknowledge that their professional activities can contribute materially to the functioning of systems responsible for mass violence.
The Broader Context: Accountability Beyond the Battlefield
The Hind Rajab Foundation’s work has repeatedly demonstrated that atrocity crimes do not occur in isolation. They are supported by corporate supply chains, financial networks, investment portfolios, digital infrastructure, and legal advice. Israel’s genocide in Gaza is no exception.
Legal professionals occupy a crucial position within these systems. Without their services, many transactions linked to military procurement, settlement construction, surveillance systems, or economic extraction simply cannot proceed.
The question for bar associations worldwide is not whether their members have political opinions. The question is whether their work strengthens — knowingly or unknowingly — the machinery of genocide.
A Necessary Evolution in Professional Self-Regulation
Motion 3 offers a model of what serious professional self-governance can look like. Bar associations across Europe, North America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia should consider similar mechanisms:
* independent oversight bodies,
* mandatory due-diligence frameworks,
* explicit standards on complicity,
* and training on international criminal liability for legal advisors.
Such measures are not symbolic. They reflect the reality that the legal profession is now deeply embedded in the structures that make international crimes possible.
The Moment Ahead
Israel’s actions in Gaza — mass killing, destruction of civilian infrastructure, systematic starvation, and the targeted annihilation of families — constitute genocide. In this context, the legal profession’s responsibilities cannot remain undefined.
The debate within the Dutch Bar Association is a signal to bar associations everywhere:
The age of pretending that legal work exists outside the world’s worst crimes is over.
The credibility of the profession depends on its willingness to recognise this moment — and to act accordingly.
