Cullasaja Falls is perhaps my favorite waterfall in North Carolina, and has been since my first encounter there many moons ago... but it's getting quite overgrown of late. I keep hoping the state realizes the economic impact of these highlands, and clears out the growth occluding the bottom tier of these falls, as it used to be.

The word Cullasaja is a phonetic derivative of a Cherokee word meaning "the honey locust place". Honey locusts are trees with pods of large seeds that are quite sweet... the Cherokee not only ate them, but also brewed a kind of beer from them. They named a settlement near here Cullasaja, which now is the town of Franklin... with a name like that, there must have been good times here, once upon a time.

Cullasaja is also the name of the river of which flows at the falls and the deep gorge that creates it. This view can be seen roadside along NC Hwy 64 in a narrow section where there's just enough room for a few cars to pull off. Most folks pass by without ever seeing it, as this road makes many a flatland driver nervous... but often, as I have a tripod set up, many stop out of curiosity... and they are not disappointed. I love seeing their expression at first sight. It's evident that many good times can still be had here. As one visitor stated as I was getting this image, "It truly is God's country!" I agree wholeheartedly.

I posted an image similar to this many years ago, though of scanned Fuji RVP 120 film (which was quite saturated)... you can see the difference between then and now. You can see a bit of pop in the colors in this image due to a deep overcast and rain... I polarized out reflections for a bit more color.

Glamis Castle is perhaps the most beautiful and well-preserved castle in Scotland. It is located in northern of Edinburgh and near the small village of Glamis.

This castle was begun in the fifteenth century and in the following centuries received several and constant changes and in the eighteenth century ended in its current appearance.

I'm not very fond of telling the whole story at all, since in Google is all explained and with full details.

I refer to what I saw and heard as I was going on a guided group.

The building belongs to a British noble family who still live there. Wings are dedicated to tourism and the other is his habitual residence.

It is full of ghosts, devils, secret rooms, sandwiched people, mysterious windows, ghosts and devils constantly playing poker.

What is certain is that was the habitual residence of the Queen Mother and one of its rooms was born Princess Margaret, sister of the present Queen Elisabeth.

Shakespeare also placed his work in theater Macbeth in the castle and a lounge called Duncan's Hall, was murdered King Duncan. Realy, none of this is true, nor the location neither the murder.

The truth is that all these stories of ghosts and demonic apparitions are explained very seriously and you do not know how to stay. The only certainty is that the castle is wonderful, is very well preserved and that the visit is very enjoyable.

Not to tire, only a mysterious detail I checked personally. On one side of the castle, there are five windows outside. When I count inside, I only found four. Nobody knows where the fifth window belongs.

Please enlarge the picture if you like to see detais.

Perhaps the world changes more often than not. Perhaps life is variable, ephemeral, and the people you see once you never see again. They change in their eyes, in their souls, and most importantly in their words. These words flow in a way that you're never quite touched in the same way. Perhaps we shouldn't aim for comfort, for stability. Instead, perhaps we should ride out the waves, follow the water, and embrace the change that brings spirit to life.

I am not sure about these powerful machines...it really depends on the good will of the people who use them,to be considerate to other seaside users. I have heard some bad stories...but on the other hand,I have seen many people on these in varying locations, and all were careful in the harbour environs...until they got further out,and then they let them rip.

A bit wild for me,but as long as the users are considerate...they are quite exciting.

Perhaps one should not be surprised the photo-man likes travel guidebooks with lots of photos?

Before any of you say "wow, you travel a lot and have been to all these places?" Nope, I only wish!

I buy the odd guidebooks when I come across them in second-hand bookshops. I've only been to New York City, Ireland, England and the Netherlands (of the books seen here).

I'd love to visit Boston, Scotland, Switzerland, Hamburg, Denmark, and Vienna.

Perhaps Kansas City's most prominent historic business, Emery Bird & Thayer started business in the 1860s and outfitted steamboats and trappers. Years later it shifted to handling goods for the citizens of the emerging town of Kansas City. This warehouse was built in 1899. It closed in 1968 and was renovated, now being used as rental lofts. I remember the store as a child in the 50s as having the best window displays at Christmas.

...perhaps it never ends!

Perhaps because my New England aster was severely height-challenged this year, growing only about eight inches tall, and bloomed later than usual (and stopped blooming rather quickly), I didn’t have nearly as many hover flies this year as I’ve had previously. At least I was able to capture this one.

Hi flickr!

Yesterday I was blessed with the opportunity to meet my first american flickr friend, Madeline Masarik, whom you may already know has been in Sydney all of July with the Benetels, she came to my house and we wandered the creek nearby with Christian, walking through mud, dirty creek water, and just having a really fun and adventurous time. I've looked up to her work for such a long time, and feel like we are definitely on the same page, when it comes to age and accomplishments and it felt so humbling learning that she was so down to earth and lovely!

I have many more pictures from the day but I just wanted to post this first, a bit of an experiment, but I really love it.
