The zheng is an ancient Chinese instrument. It has been developed from a small instrument made from bamboo, originally used by herdsman. It was very popular during ancient times, as early as the Warring States Period and the Qin Dynasty (225 to 206 BC and earlier).

My friends and I stumbled onto a live performance in a courtyard after some drinks this evening. Had no idea what was going on but couldn't resist and managed to sneak close enough to the stage to get a few good shots. Anyone know who this is?

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the annual outdoor Battery Dance Festival went virtual this year, like so many other performances.
So there was no live festival and most of the international dance companies that participated did so via video.
But NYC let the Festival film a handful of the performers live, albeit in the very early morning, as a way to discourage curious onlookers. These are some of the companies that participated; but this necessarily is a very small sampling.

Returning from an early dinner this evening, I was surprised to find a live performance going on from a guesthouse veranda!
