Usually it is difficult to see the eyes of the marching band students because of the visor on their hats. Here, it is pushed back far enough to avoid a shadow. This is exciting considering the striking eyes of the subject.
I chose this tight crop to emphasize the singular flutist, making it more portrait-esque. There were a few blown highlights in the feathers, but nothing recovery couldn't handle.
Photos from the Rehearsal Performance of the Ann Arbor Dance Classics Benefit Show at the Saline High School on Saturday March 18th, 2023 (for the performance on Sunday the 19th). The show was called "Work of Art" - the 2022 Benefit Concert and Competition Showcase to benefit the Peace Neighborhood Center. The early embryonic life: a Place harboring the information for our journey throughout the adulthood.
The textile artwork represents the primordial of life as the self-assembling of forms in the presence of physical energies (i.e. electromagnetic energy and mechanical/sound vibration) symbolized by dark/light patterning and colored beams spreading throughout a network of assembling morphogenetic layers.

Images of the artwork appeared as a cover image in Cell R4, an international Journal of regenerative medicine (Cell R4 Vol 2, issue 2), within the context of the article entitled: "Fashioning Cellular Rhythms with Magnetic energy and Sound Vibration: A new perspective for Regenerative Medicine” (Carlo Ventura, Cell R4 2(2): e839).

Another shot chosen primarily based on subject. I also like the girls in the background with similar faces, all looking away. The lighting is my flash, and the stadium lighting.
I had to do some sharpening, because the dancers were in the middle of the field and I was on the sidelines. I also lightened her eyes because of her heavy makeup.
