One of the better, intact sections of this old tuberculosis hospital. The weight of human history still reverberate throughout.
#MacroMondays and #DoubleExposure
This picture is made in 2 exposures: one exposure is absolutely out of focus, which is creating the vague halo and the second is in focus, creating the sharp part of the image. This in-camera-double-exposed image is changed from colour to sepia in Nikons RAW converter Capture NX-D. The second effect is created with On One Software Perfect Effects (black lining)
I made this picture this spring, 2018. April is the month of the Dutch national pride, the flowers. The colors have been just saturated and I sharpened the flower field. I need to rework sky to make more intense using few digital filters. You can see some noise due the 800 ISO. I use a low perspective. You can see the Lisse windmill in the background. Comments welcomed.
Happy Halloween from Disneyland. I would have liked to post this earlier, but I was just too tired to finish processing last night. I stayed after the park closed for my first time to take photos. It was a lot of fun and I think I got some great shots, I still haven't loaded all the images to Lightroom but I'm excited to see what I got.

Last night's sunset in San Luis Obispo, CA. I've never tonemapped a long exposure before (and I can't remember the last time I've done that on a single RAW) but thought I'd give it a shot here. The newest version of Photomatix does a pretty decent job, but I still don't see running back for more anytime too soon. Super long exposures always add a bit of noise--add tonemapping to that and most of post becomes about noise reduction (at least on this image, which is still pretty darn noisy) which I really don't like. Just like everyone else I like the creative part of post a lot more than the tedious corrections...so don't expect too many of these from me. Having said that I'm still pretty excited about the end result.
75 second exposure

I was lucky to see this Owl in Edwin Warner Park recently. Usually owls fly away but this one let me click away.
This is a very popular attraction along the Columbia River Gorge, a short drive to the east of Portland, Oregon. Being easily accessible at the side of the road, it gets very crowded and I did remove a few people from the bridge.
It looks better in the Lightbox.

A horseshoe shaped building - this taken from the outer left side of the "U" shape. Completely inspired by my partner in climb, riverrat18, to the extent that I deliberately composed this shot to match as near as possible his version, found here:

Still stickin' around Pittsburgh during the snow storm we had this past weekend, this is a shot from the North Shore of Pittsburgh. The sky was a bit 'blah' as you might imagine, so I thought that the vintage processing added a bit to this shot.

So yesterday I went over 1,000,000 views on my flickr account! When I signed up for flickr a little over 3 years ago I never thought I would get there! I want to thank you all so much for all of your support over the last couple of years!
Today I launched a new feature on my blog, monthly desktop wallpaper! Head on over to grab January's today!
I thought that this quote was certainly appropriate for this shot, as I had to wait for the huge snow squall that came through to pass before I got this shot! At first you couldn't even see the city from where I was standing, but as the snow passed, there was this eerie fog over it!

Not literally west, as is the case with the traditional placement of the narthex in Catholic basilicas.
Orange poppies in the morning sun. Created partially with Perfect Effects: natural dynamic contrast, red color enhancement and a big softy vignette with opacity of about 50%. Finished with Photoshop by darkening mid-tones.
Yesterday I downloaded Perfects Effects 8 of onOne Software. I used this picture to find out the options available. Good program, many filteroptions fluidly integrated with Photoshop (Elements in my case). I have used 2 filters for this picture: a glow effect and the borders....

The largest portion of an old locomotive factory in upstate New York. The plant manufactured locomotives until 1934 where due to economic forces, it cut back production, primarily manufacturing parts, including for and during WW II.
Amazingly, it was shut down in 1962, so this corpse may very well have been sitting here for 55 years, without a demolition bulldozer in sight.
Crazy room. I wish I had photographically approached it from a few other angles, such that the light - the view seen here - wasn't so flat.

More Pittsburgh today! This is a view from the Duquesne Incline station overlooking the skyline of the Steel City. You can even see an incline car on the track!

A random collection of collateral in an extension off the narrow three story building near downtown Cincinnati.
After processing, I found it to be too “viewable” - HDR (Lightroom) eliminated the shadows and made it unauthentic to what I perceived. I blended in one of the bracketed shots, and back came the shadows, and authenticity.
