A pencil sketch of the 2Faced Dance Company, doing their routine during the 2022 Derby Feste event. They were one of a number of acts preforming on Saturday afternoon, in Plaza in front of the historic Silk Mill (Derby's Museum of Making). Most of the drawing was completed during the show, but had to add the dancers later in the studio, using my photos of the action, as they were moving too quickly.

Why do we look
yet never see the soul.
The answer is one we
may never know.
A love, a life,
a dream of snow.
When dreaming deeply
one sense's the soul.
Person to person
we look at and through
and never truly know.
What defines the
human experience?
Do you know?
It is deeper
than outer looks,
it is in sensing
one's soul.

Photography workshop with Marsel van Oosten & Daniella Sibbing

This is the third image from a series of four black and white photographs that won me a Silver award last week in the One Eyeland awards. Here are the links to the first and second image that I posted earlier:
All images were shot in the Fujian province in China, and show the extremely graphic and surreal landscape that is the result from large scale aquaculture. Those sticks you see are massive bamboo poles, and they’re used to farm seaweed.
This particular image was shot on an early morning before sunrise at low tide. I knew that around this time of day there might be someone searching for clams, so I used my 400mm lens and systematically searched through the landscape for a human element.
I love the compressed perspective of the 400mm and how it makes the landscape very 2-dimensional. Once I found a person, I just followed it with my lens until it was in the perfect spot.

If you’d like to get shots like this yourself, then why not join us to China next month? We have one last minute opening, so this is your chance! More info here: ow.ly/2UY8100z2YU

who has some brilliant B&W people shots. Loved the picture so much, I thought it would make a great study. Its been a while since I did any pencil, so why not dive right in at the deep end.
Not sure what kind of dog this is, but it might be a Maltese dog. I googled bowing dogs and this one took my fancy!! Hope y'all like it!

My 8 year old brother begged me to post this for him. He carries around a small notebook that he draws in all of the time. This is the first page. He asked me to post it and keep him updated on how many views it has. So thank you to anyone who looks at it. Each and every one of you will make this little boy's day.

I had various ideas this week but decided to keep it simple!
Here I have taken the photograph in colour and using Affinity Photo converted it into a pencil drawing.

Not a dog I know, just one I found on Google. Dogs from abroad like this appeal to me for their individual looks. I started this in graphite pencils, but then got a bit bored and started adding colour!!

I did an experiment yesterday. I drew a cat in my new A3 pad but then decided to see how it ended up if I copied the same cat photo in my A4 pad (which has a rougher texture as well as being smaller) Both were enjoyable in their own way!
