WEEK 44 – Spirit Halloween (fmr Books-a-Million), Southaven, MS (III)
One final interior shot for us, taking one last look back over the checklanes. In this scene, practically nothing feels majorly different from the old Books-a-Million that used to occupy this space! Right down to all the nice natural light that I always loved streaming in through those windows… I’m glad the new Books-a-Million store has similar windows running all along the front of its façade.
A few things to note here before we step outside… straight in front of us are some Spirit Halloween handbaskets, which I’m sure our resident basket aficionado [https://www.flickr.com/photos/193278876@N07/] would like. On the window to the left, there’s an appropriately-orange occupancy limit notice – not sure if that’s orange because of Spirit or just because it’s a government sign, though, lol. And finally, it’s kind of interesting how there in the background, you can see that Spirit’s pegboard wall there in that front left corner doesn’t actually extend all the way to the front corner of the building itself, leaving a bit of an awkward scene from this angle with that sharp vertical wall rising out of nowhere. I guess they just wanted to have the end of their shelving be flush with the checkout counter, though.

"Sonic the Hedgehog stands atop boxes in front of pegboard!"
Whenever the announcer is reduced to just stating what we can already clearly see, you know this is a throwaway show.
"The Hedgehog, known as Sonic, has taken a position upon the upper surface of a box!"
Just go ahead and see what's the next show. The announcer's going to go on like this for like fifteen minutes.
...programs rustling...
"Sonic, an anthropomorphized hedgehog, has assumed an upright stance with pegboard behind him!"
It says the next show is 'Yu-Gi-Oh!' I don't what that is but it's gotta be better than this.
"The bipedal upright hedgehog known as Sonic is on top of a cardboard box, in front of pegboard... wait for it... wait for it... HOLDING A CHILI CHEESE DOG!"
That does remind me that this would be a great time to make a trip to the concessions.
Right with you!
A chili cheese dog sounds good!

WEEK 5 – Cordova Super Target Closing, Set II
Instead of yet another view looking from the actionway into the seasonal department, here finally is a shot from within said department. Specifically, we’re standing directly against the left-side wall of the interior, and looking straight down toward the front left corner, where we previously saw the books/music/movies and electronics departments. Unlike a lot of the aisles we saw Tuesday, most of the ones seen from this particular vantage point lack the typical Target pegboard wallpaper. Somehow that makes them seem even sadder… :(

Yesterday, my youngest was home from school with a virus and today, my oldest was home with the same thing. And it is way too cold to go outside! This actually started as an idea to shoot smoke lit from a flash behind a piece of pegboard. I was hoping to get some rays of light. It didn't turn out as I had envisioned it. So I adjusted for some smoke images, which I enjoy creating.
WEEK 42 – Spirit Halloween (fmr Books-a-Million), Southaven, MS (II)
Spirit has many departments for basically any type of costume theme you can think of – “empire” and “steampunk” are the two that we see in the foreground here. The one I took this picture for, though, is the elaborate “‘20s” one seen along that pegboard wall, calling to mind the glitz and glamour of those famously “roaring” days. What I’m not sure about is whether this is a department Spirit has every year, or if it was new for 2020… I kinda like to think the latter is true, just because of the coolness factor of a return to the 1920s in the 2020s that that would indicate. It would also go well, for example, with my theory that some of Kroger’s 2020-era Urban Mix décor is inspired at least somewhat by the 1920s.

SET 2 – Cordova Spirit Halloween (former Gordmans)
Making it back up to the front of the store, as promised, we get a somewhat closer view of the Guest Services area – although not necessarily a better one. (Also as promised, we get a good overview look at Spirit’s animatronic feature up here at the entrance, which we’ll explore in closer detail in the next batch of pics.) Notice how empty the area along the barricade wall is in this view; there’s not even any pegboard for merchandise there, just the totally blank walls (and a random stack of handbaskets). I wonder if more stuff came later, or if the scene was like this for the entire time the store was open.

We're here visiting domestic archaeology.
Well the drawer/cabinet in my office is a treasure trove of stuff. Some of it well used and some of it just in that "don't want to throw it out for no real reason" category.
Took a selection out and here we have:
1) an old Samsung slide phone - does not work, has no sim card
2) a memory card reader - was invaluable back in the day but not so much anymore
3) a golf ball I got somewhere and have never used as I know I'll lose it
4) invisible nylon thread - quite often used in my AdventurerJoe series as I like to mock up action shots rather than rely on photoshopping too much
5) keyring torch - no idea where it came from. Kinda works but button is broken so with batteries in, it is permanently on until batteries are removed or run out
6) iphone sim ejector tool
7) string - see #4
8) Planet Hollywood stirrer
9) mini Wolverine
10) SpiderMan
11) The man, the legend, Adventure Joe (star of over 750 365 pictures!)
12) a one pound coin
13) a Twenty pence piece
www.machinegrid.com/2009/12/the-jerker-geek-desk-workbench/
I spend alot of time in this space. The setup uses two Ikea Jerker desks - combined. I just swing between them depending on what I'm working on. The setup was gradually built up over a year and a half. I spend time editing my pics[D40/18-55/50/55-200] / playing TF2 or working on an embedded project.
IKEA should get back the Jerker desk. Both the desks were got off Craigslist. If there is more interest, I'll label all the stuff on the electronics bench with purchase links in a separate pic.
If you need to know anything specific, please ask it in the comments, I'll answer or leave a comment on my homepage(link above).
WEEK 5 – Cordova Super Target Closing, Set II
Poster talk aside, here’s yet another view of the totally deserted seasonal department. Here and in a select handful of other already-vacated aisles we’ll be seeing over the course of this stour (such as the one seen three clicks back, in fact), you’ll find that Target went and removed all the actual shelves from the gondola units, leaving them completely bare save for the pegboard wallpaper (where applicable). I don’t recall seeing a single aisle with the shelves just piled up near the base of the units, a la scenes like this that are typical of closing stores. That tells me Target must have immediately moved all the shelves off of the salesfloor and into the back as soon as they were taken down. I guess that’s just another way a Target closure is like no other…

SET 2 – Cordova Spirit Halloween (former Gordmans)
The back left corner of Spirit’s layout, strangely enough, opts for a squared-off pegboard wall arrangement rather than following the angle of Gordmans’ existing display wall element; this can also be better seen in my shot two clicks back. Not sure why that is, but anyway, the merchandise back here consists of a continuation of the accessories department, with items ranging from the comparatively tamer “wigs and hats” to the more wild category of “ears and tails.” There’s also hosiery and fishnets to round things out. Definitely no shortage of “interesting” merchandise here…!

Tonight my sweet husband came home and put my pegboard up for me! I made a little paper bunting for above and did some organizing and decorating to make it look sooooo super cute!

This is my Palermo office desk setup (you can find more details about my office setup HERE). A Logitech V200 cordless mouse and M$ Natural Ergonomic Keyboard are tucked away on a sliding keyboard shelf. The monitor is a Samsung 173P mounted to an Ergotron Neo-Flex LCD arm which swings forward approximately 15" when in use and frees up the entire desk area underneath it.
All cables are hidden from view using pegboard and adhesive backed nylon mounting bases as shown in this photo and this photo.
This is actually how my desk looks after clearing all items except for the things I use on a regular basis. There are two shelves in the room which store books, notepads, and other office supplies that are used once in a while.

4480 Indian Ripple Rd, Dayton, OH. This store opened on November 17, 1977, and is the next-to-the-last Kmart in the Dayton area. The store's closure was formally announced on April 6, 2017, with liquidation starting April 27th. The store closed for good July 16th.

This photo was taken about in front of the restroom hallway looking out into the front of the store. Pegboard, anyone?

All peripherals, a power strip, and power bricks are mounted to a piece of pegboard that is attached to the back of the desk via two "L" brackets (also known as shelf or corner brackets). The cables are attached to the back of the desk and leg via adhesive backed nylon mounting bases (available at The Home Depot & Fry's Electronics).

Seven and three quarter inch neon orange nylon wire ties were used to mount the power brick, power strip, and backup hard drive to the underside of the pegboard. You can see what the rest of the desk looks like from behind HERE. All parts and accessories were purchased at The Home Depot and Fry's Electronics.

Looking toward the front of the store. This area contained merchandise for WVU, Marshall, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is now empty pegboard.
Hardware Store Brochure design template by Crispin Finn. Showcased on Inkd.com.
This brochure would be perfect for a local hardware shop providing friendly service to all customers. The graphic exterior uses the identifiable language of tools hanging from a pegboard to convey the subject of the brochure.
SET 1 – Cordova Spirit Halloween (former Gordmans)
Our shot through the pegboard in the last image was obviously located along Spirit’s makeshift perimeter wall; for this pic we’ve moved away from that and closer to the center of the store, directly adjacent to Gordmans’ erstwhile fitting rooms as a matter of fact, and are once again looking back towards the front of the building (I seem to have gotten a lot of pics facing this direction; not sure why). If I haven’t pointed this out yet, in addition to all the flooring, the ceiling and lighting, of course, remains unchanged from the Gordmans days also – and I’m not sure that Spirit was able to control which rows of lighting they wanted to turn on, so much as all the other lights we see in this picture were simply burnt out! (That definitely lines up with the similar maintenance status we saw at the Southaven store…)

Since my local Radio Shack is about to close, I've been stocking up on things I would usually go there for. I've been organizing everything on this pegboard to create my own little Radio Shack.

Step into the warm, well-worn kitchen of culinary legend Julia Child—just as she left it. This carefully preserved exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. captures the essence of a life devoted to food, flavor, and fearless experimentation.
More than just a set, this is the actual kitchen from Julia Child’s Cambridge, Massachusetts home, where she filmed three of her PBS television shows. The exhibit preserves over 1,200 original objects including her well-used copper pans, classic blue cabinetry, signature pegboards, and vintage cooking appliances. Every detail offers a window into Julia's exuberant spirit and practical creativity.
The Smithsonian display recreates the room exactly as it stood—down to the table settings and quirky wall art. Knives are lined up on a magnetic strip, pots hang in easy reach, and her famously towering presence is felt in the room’s custom-height counters. The open shelving and functional chaos reflect the working kitchen of a woman who revolutionized how America thought about cooking.
Visitors can peer into this space through glass, as if walking into a moment suspended in time. For fans of food, history, or television, it’s a meaningful pilgrimage spot.
Photographed with care to minimize reflections and glare, these images highlight the museum's immersive preservation work and the enduring legacy of one of America's most beloved cooks.
