We’re here are visiting “You can’t post that here” which is a group with many many exclusion rules. It seems penguins are allowed so I set about trying to find anything penguin related on my house!

SET 3 – Cordova Spirit Halloween (former Gordmans)
The cart storage space I mentioned in the previous description (from a few days back) can be seen a bit better in this view, which also shows what this scene looked like back in 2017, when the store was closing (courtesy Google Maps). There was definitely an excessive number of liquidation signs plastered all over the doors and windows here, haha! We also see the fixture sale pegboard over on the left, and down below, the Gordmans logo floor mats – which, you’ll notice from my 2020 Spirit images, sadly were no longer present…
Image belongs to owner. No infringement intended.
Please do not repost without my permission.
I decided to slap all my home network to a pegboard in the utility room to help lessen the clutter and dust problem I have back there. It doesn't help to also have the cat litter boxes back there, but it's only place to put them in the house.
The We're Here! gang is seeing stars today.

SET 1 – Cordova Spirit Halloween (former Gordmans)
Here’s another look at the fitting rooms, surrounded and blocked from access by some more pegboard walls (and again, as I mentioned last time, some sections of those walls look pretty barren, such as the one on the extreme right in this pic). If you flip back to the last image, you’ll see Spirit had its own fitting rooms set up at the back of the store, so I guess they just didn’t want to bother to reuse the existing ones left behind from Gordmans. I wonder if that’s something they do out of consistency (and possibly liability purposes as well) at every store they take over that has fitting rooms they could make use of, but choose not to.
This is our last pic in this first set of 15, but instead of going back and forth between this album and another one, we’re going to be spending the entire month of October exploring this store. So come back later this week as this series continues!

final friday artwalk. I piled up all my paintings because I didn't know what people would think (i.e. I didn't know which ones were better than others), and I wanted to find out.
this is 24 paintings altogether (some hidden), done over about six weeks, so that's about one every other day.
I sold the red one, which was nice. Now I can buy more paint.

Not the original kitchen, but a nice one that is certainly in the spirit of it, with fibreglass pegboard sliding cabinet doors, formica countertops, and hairpin legs.
#43 on Explore! Thanks!
Here are all the planets (and singular moon) of the observable Pegboard galaxy. There is, however, some debate on whether the final planet is indeed a planet or not. At time of writing this debate rages on. For we’re here visiting that’s not a still life.

WEEK 47 – Union Avenue OfficeMax, Set II
While the department sign itself looked all well and good, you may have noticed that the presentation underneath it was looking less than stellar, with many of the newer yellow panels covering up the pegboard fixtures severely peeling. One of those yellow panels, as a matter of fact, had disappeared entirely, revealing behind it a gap in the pegboard through which we can see the hidden remains of a much older FurnitureMax wall sign: hmm, where have I heard this story before?! Yep – sure looks like that’s the same blue-colored mural hiding back here as we saw at the Tupelo TriMax! Makes me wonder if perhaps this store was at one point branded as TriMax as well… after all, it does bill both CopyMax and FurnitureMax on its roadside signage, and as we’ll soon see, it does have the same checkered tile floors and industrial-style shelves. Seems like a plausible theory, at least.

Last week, I had some "visitors".
For 2 full days last week, a gaggle of stylists, riggers, and Photographic Types descended upon my Studio, leaving me to figure out some-other means of working for those 2 days.
Traumatic as it sounded at the time- it was "only" 2 days outta my life. (probably "lost more time than that just watching bad DVD's!!)
What resulted was a bunch of images that a professional Chicago based Photographer is planning on using to update her portfolio and website, shot "on location" in a very hip and happenin' Studio space.

I would love to add a pegboard like this in my kitchen. I want to add a border (white and red pattern) to a white pegboard. Not sure how I will do that...
I will be attaching a knife magnet too...counter space is too precious...
This kitchen belongs to Grace from DesignSponge. I cant wait to see her living room now!
WEEK 32 – Wolfchase Ollie’s, Set II
Speaking of Toys “R” Us… not only does their architecture and flooring remain at this location, Ollie’s even managed to keep a tiny portion of their wallpaper! This example can be found directly above the stockroom doors, and the way Ollie stuck his witty little sign right on top of it – and its neighboring pegboard backing – implies to me that said pegboard backing was left here from TRU (as was, perhaps, all of the shelving in the entire store – who knows). How this little bit remained while the rest was removed, I have no clue, but as a retail fan who is entirely pleased with this discovery I of course have no reason to question such good fortune!

Finished the project gun: the Mini Draco (AK-47-style, short barrel, "pistol"). 7.62x39mm. 30rd magazine. I've modified it to include a Hogue AK-47 grip in "Desert Tan" since the original Romanian bakelite grip is terrible. I've added an AK-74 style muzzle brake after cutting off the tack-welded muzzle nut to keep the recoil and rise down, and I've customized the fore-end with my own work since the original wooden "hotdog bun" fore-end was hideous.

Now that we're done with the music/movies/books areas, let's move on to another “slashed” section, toys/games. As it turns out, I've uploaded a photo very similar to this one before, but at that time it was for the purpose of pointing out Target's new woodgrain pegboard panels to make their toy departments gender neutral. Evidently whatever backlash they received over the change must not have been enough to convince them to switch back to the old stuff, since it's still here in this 2016 pic.

Yep, the store was being stripped down to what I believe to be it's original, mid-70's, aqua-colored back wall! Back then I guess they painted the entire wall, even if it were to be covered over by something else. I believe the striping above the aqua to be of 80's vintage. Looks like the pegboard paneling to the right of the doorway had just been taken off the wall, and can still be seen here lying face down, so my timing to see this couldn't have been more perfect methinks. Thought I would be able to witness the removal of the Layaway sign itself, but for whatever reason, the guy only removed the 'L' and stopped!
As you can guess, I took several photos of this, and there's even another small section like this just out of view to the left.

Not blessed with much extra time as of late due to birthday parties, Thanksgiving, Christmas shopping, and producing my Aikido Club's 2010 video for our Christmas party next week so the 365 had to be minimized to just taking shots quickly between everything else. But yay now that the video is done and I'm slowly churning out copies I can finally post the shots I've been taking.
WEEK 44 – Spirit Halloween (fmr Books-a-Million), Southaven, MS (III)
Moving further up the left side wall, as we make our way back toward the front of the building (and squeeze past that bottleneck of an actionway we just saw!), the next department we come across is the kids’ costumes, with lots of fun stuff to be seen here. I’m mostly referring to the costumes themselves in that sentence, although in this specific image my focus was on the creepy clown décor piece lording over the department… obviously it’s hard to get this to come across in a still image, but his eyes actually mechanically rotate, which is pretty interesting (I wonder how they get the electronics for that all set up through their shelving and pegboard wall!)

WEEK 44 – Spirit Halloween (fmr Books-a-Million), Southaven, MS (III)
This pic is pretty similar to the previous one, except now I’ve lifted my phone up so that the camera includes a bit more of the old Books-a-Million wall décor hidden behind Spirit’s pegboard walls – I mean, it’s only a really tiny bit more, but at this rate every bit counts, haha!
We’re still unable to see the Joe Muggs hanging sign – unfortunately – but at least we know that it’s still back there. On the other hand, over on the wall to the left of that, something that was here last time is actually missing now: you might recall that a random letter “N” was still hanging on the wall, leftover from the old “Kids-a-Million” signage, back when Overstock was occupying the building in winter 2018/2019. Sadly, that last piece was unceremoniously removed by the time Spirit opened to the public in fall 2020.
I’m not sure if Spirit removed it as part of their preparations for moving in, or if the landlord of the building removed it in advance of the same. Honestly, Spirit trashing a prior retailer’s décor definitely seems like it would be out of character for them (!); but I’m not really sure I buy the latter argument either, especially because, if that were the case, then why wouldn’t the landlord have removed it prior to Overstock’s tenancy instead? Oh well… whoever is responsible, the whole thing just makes me sad that I never asked for it, as I really would’ve liked it for my collection. Of course, though, it wouldn’t have been Overstock’s to give away, so I likely wouldn’t have had any success with that anyway.
(Relatedly, there's a similar piece I'd love to get my hands on that’s inside the Southaven building Spirit is currently squatting in this year... maybe if that building stays vacant for a few years more and Spirit returns a couple more times, I'll be able to build up the courage to ask about it someday, haha!)

WEEK 44 – Spirit Halloween (fmr Books-a-Million), Southaven, MS (III)
One final interior shot for us, taking one last look back over the checklanes. In this scene, practically nothing feels majorly different from the old Books-a-Million that used to occupy this space! Right down to all the nice natural light that I always loved streaming in through those windows… I’m glad the new Books-a-Million store has similar windows running all along the front of its façade.
A few things to note here before we step outside… straight in front of us are some Spirit Halloween handbaskets, which I’m sure our resident basket aficionado [https://www.flickr.com/photos/193278876@N07/] would like. On the window to the left, there’s an appropriately-orange occupancy limit notice – not sure if that’s orange because of Spirit or just because it’s a government sign, though, lol. And finally, it’s kind of interesting how there in the background, you can see that Spirit’s pegboard wall there in that front left corner doesn’t actually extend all the way to the front corner of the building itself, leaving a bit of an awkward scene from this angle with that sharp vertical wall rising out of nowhere. I guess they just wanted to have the end of their shelving be flush with the checkout counter, though.

"Sonic the Hedgehog stands atop boxes in front of pegboard!"
Whenever the announcer is reduced to just stating what we can already clearly see, you know this is a throwaway show.
"The Hedgehog, known as Sonic, has taken a position upon the upper surface of a box!"
Just go ahead and see what's the next show. The announcer's going to go on like this for like fifteen minutes.
...programs rustling...
"Sonic, an anthropomorphized hedgehog, has assumed an upright stance with pegboard behind him!"
It says the next show is 'Yu-Gi-Oh!' I don't what that is but it's gotta be better than this.
"The bipedal upright hedgehog known as Sonic is on top of a cardboard box, in front of pegboard... wait for it... wait for it... HOLDING A CHILI CHEESE DOG!"
That does remind me that this would be a great time to make a trip to the concessions.
Right with you!
A chili cheese dog sounds good!

WEEK 5 – Cordova Super Target Closing, Set II
Instead of yet another view looking from the actionway into the seasonal department, here finally is a shot from within said department. Specifically, we’re standing directly against the left-side wall of the interior, and looking straight down toward the front left corner, where we previously saw the books/music/movies and electronics departments. Unlike a lot of the aisles we saw Tuesday, most of the ones seen from this particular vantage point lack the typical Target pegboard wallpaper. Somehow that makes them seem even sadder… :(
